We absolutely love visiting Twin Ponds Rifle Range in Awendaw. We come here frequently and recently brought some visiting friends along. It reminded us why we appreciate this place so much. The rangers are always helpful and incredibly knowledgeable. They've taken the time to help us sight in our scopes and have guided us in better understanding aim, distance, and overall technique. On top of that, they're genuinely funny and personable, which makes the whole experience comfortable and welcoming. It's a bit of a drive for us, but completely worth it especially for FREE range access. It's such an amazing community resource for practice and for enjoying the sport responsibly. The range is well set up with porta potties, handwashing stations, and plenty of parking. The serene woods surrounding the park make it a peaceful place to spend the day. We'll definitely keep coming back and recommending it to friends! read more

This was our first time at the Twin Ponds Rifle Range and it won't be our last. The outdoor range is exactly what we needed to release any stress and spend an amazing day date together! If you like shooting handguns or rifles this is the place to check out! You have to bring your own targets, weapons, ammo, ear and eye protection. The facilities are great so come and enjoy! Having being qualifying expert rifleman while in the Marines qualifying for all 8 years have recently decided to sight-in a new Henry Golden boy magnum, realized the eyes of a young Marine are still subject to how should I put it, somewhat diminished. However this Old Marine sought assistance from the Range Master, he was most friendly, helpful and offered to assist both my Son & I with at any time, particularly during Week day when the range was less crowded. I like that thy have target stands and backers here for anyone to use, that's a big plus, especially since their rules in targets are incredibly restrictive (bottom of target must be 40" off the ground). All you can do here is very basic target shooting. No more than 1 shot per 3 seconds is the strictest I have ever seen. Multiple park rangers plus people on the line enforcing the rules too. Any event remotely minor mistake and someone is talking to you about rules. For example, they said cold range and someone talked to me because I was... putting an empty chamber flag in my rifle to comply with the rules. You can't even bring a shotgun to pattern it or take it with slugs to 50 or 100 yards. And with only 100 yards here, it isn't like you are doing any real precision work. No steel targets either. Literally the only use for this range with these rules is zeroing a rifle and leaving. Wouldn't even bother showing up here with my pistol, unless I was a completely inexperienced shooter who is still shooting very slowly. For what it is, the facility is nice, and I understand why the rules are in place and people are here enforcing them (I used to go to the public range in Newberry and it was a disaster with so many boneheads there), but these rules go far beyond what is needed for safety and make this range nearly unusable for anyone for anyone other than zeroing a rifle or learning the very basics of marksmanship. Really nice public range, remodeled within the last couple of years. Plenty of pistol and rifle stations under shaded pavilions on two separate ranges. Full tables on both sides. Rifle side is about 100 yards and has swing-out seats built into the long table. The pistol side goes a little beyond 25 yards. The federal government clearly spent some money to make this a really nice public range. Note that it's closed on Mondays, and rapid shooting or fully automatic weapons not allowed. They have target stand bases and uprights available, but bring your own cardboard backers, targets and ammo. The only restrooms are portable types, so plan ahead if you're not a fan of those. The range is monitored by a range master, which helps keep things orderly and clean. read more

This is a fantastic gun range. They have a pistol side that is 25 yards and has a minimum age of 16 and a rifle side that is 100 yards (with 25 yard incremental markers) with no minimum age. Both stations are covered, have front and back benches, and adjustable seats. Online it says you must bring your own target stands but they actually have plenty there that they prefer you use - just bring your own paper targets. They also have rifle supports available for use, as well as chairs and tables for those who don't want to shoot to sit back away from the stations and away from the noise. Other amenities include two well-cleaned porta potties. They don't tolerate idiots here and have strict rules to keep things safe and clean. You're expected to clean up after yourself and when they get busy the full time ranger coordinates hot and cold range times (usually 15-20 minute intervals). They require a 3 second interval between shots, so that limits automatic weapons. Ear and eye protection are required to be brought to the range, and they are very strict about where you put your gun during cold range time. All that makes for a very enjoyable and safe experience! Basically, a rifle and pistol range for zeroing weapons. Rifle is pretty much restricted to benchrest style shooting. No EDC tactics/shooting are permitted. Do not expect to practice any IPSC or IDPA shooting here. It is a very nice facility. Sadly, rules do not permit any kind of training other than zeroing for the most part. Wonderfully remodeled and designed. Separate pistol and rifle ranges. Only minus is that the max range is 100 yards. This is a great place and I feel my tax dollars are being used well. read more

This is hands down the nicest outdoor range I have ever been too. They do a great job maintaining the site and keeping it clean. They have two sides one for pistol and one long gun. The rangers are very friendly & helpful. You just sign in at the shed. If you don't have Fun here it's your own fault! Go shoot and get fresh air out some rounds down range and Enjoy your amendment right! Can say enough about this range. I've been to hundreds of ranges in my career this is my favorite! read more

Went there with my wife, son and his gf. A bit of a drive from Charleston but well worth it. Range was clean, clear, well kept, and the guys working there were fantastic. They kept the knuckleheads in check. My go to range from now on. read more
