I DO NOT recommend this business. The owner is extremely…read moreunprofessional and ignores emails, texts, and calls for weeks at a time. He wasted 6 months of my time stringing me along with excuses and now the landscaping I wanted done before winter has to wait until next year. I have no idea what his issue is and what reason he could possibly have for turning down a project that would have cost me several thousand dollars. When he came to my house for a consultation he didn't write anything down and seemed annoyed to even be there or answer my questions. If he had gotten back to me within a week, I probably would have hired him. That was about 6 weeks ago and he never responded with an estimate. I will never contact or respond to his communications again.

I recommend avoiding this business. The owner has a really tough time managing - he sent an email…read moremid-summer season last year saying, literally, "running a business is hard, I can't find employees easily, you should all know how tough this is, and I plan on discontinuing a lot of services." It was the most unprofessional communication I've ever received from a vendor, and should have been a clear sign to find a new service. Unfortunately, we ended up using his "fall cleanup" service he was promoting recently and it pushed us over the edge. The two years we've used them for lawn service, they've missed multiple weeks (they guarantee one cut per week per the contract, missed at least three each season); one time it was about 12 days since the last cut before we had to call them three times to get someone out here to cut (he had someone out here that afternoon, to his credit). It is worth noting that their price was fairly reasonable for seasonal lawn service if you paid it all up front. The real problem came down to how he handles estimation and payments. He quoted us $150 give or take $50 on a fall clean up; his crew came two weeks later than his proposed date (there were four or five rainy/snowy days those two weeks). They had to deal with broken equipment for half the visit, leaving all of our leaves on our lawn overnight since they couldn't remove them. He ended up sending me a bill two weeks later for $550 - ALMOST TRIPLE his "worst case" estimate! When I inquired, he took over a month to respond, then basically said "it is what it is, my timers don't lie" and took $50 off the bill. He finally relented when I offered to pay $350 of his $550 (still $150 over his HIGH ESTIMATE), and then he sent me an invoice that could only be paid with eCheck/direct withdraw from my checking. When I called to ask to pay by Credit Card (which I have multiple times without having to request it), he told me there's now a 3% fee for that, too. He may be a stand-up citizen and his crew did ok work (they tore up our yard regularly in a few tricky spots, and last year shattered a glass doorwall, but still, not terrible quality)... However, his professionalism is lacking and he is a nightmare to work with if you have a problem. Worst of all, being three times below your high end estimate is just being bad at estimating and feels more like a "bait and switch" than anything else. He needs help managing his small business, or at the very least, he needs to stop making his management problems his customers' problems.

With two young boys and careers, it just wasn't going to get done so why not hire a professional? We had several quotes and consults but there was no comparison. Here are my Thoughts: One, Jan and her other designers are absolutely consultative and creative. You really get a well thought out, plan that you can be as involved in as you want. For us, it was very collaborative and we felt we were heard in the process and our ideas incorporated with enthusiasm. Jan knows her stuff too! She knows just which plants will thrive when and where and takes pride in identifying just the right ones for you. Two, Jan and the landscaping crew were positive, professional, and caring while on the job each time. Its one thing to do a good job and quite another to have fun doing it. They do both! We highly recommend Two Women and a Hoe for landscaping design and installation.
