I stopped by on a warm, sunny October Sunday morning while in the area for the National Apple Harvest Festival (about 30 minutes away), and somehow had the whole place to myself. It was so peaceful--just the sound of leaves rustling in the breeze and the occasional thud of acorns falling from the trees. The walk in is short and easy--basically a flat stroll past a couple of informational signs to reach the boulder outcropping. From there, the fun begins! Hammonds Rocks is about 400 feet long, with massive stone formations to climb, wander, and explore. I spent about 45 minutes hopping from stone to stone, taking photos, and checking out different angles of the formations. Even without climbing, there are plenty of spots to enjoy the view, though the tall trees do block some of it. Still, with the leaves just starting to turn to their fall colors, it was absolutely beautiful. The info signs are worth a pause, too--they really put things into perspective. One noted that when the sediments making up these rocks were deposited, the spot where I was standing was on the shore of a great ocean...530-600 MILLION years ago. Wild. Absolutely mind blowing! As for access: don't panic when Google Maps tells you the next few miles are unpaved. The gravel road is manageable if you take it slow and keep an eye out for some monster ruts. (Speaking from experience: this 40-something woman in her beloved Alfa Romeo made it just fine.) Just don't attempt in winter without knowing what you're getting into--the roads aren't maintained in snow or ice. Overall, Hammonds Rocks is an easy, low-effort, high-reward stop. Whether you're climbing, photographing, or just taking in the history and scenery, it's a great way to spend part of your day in Michaux.

Gorgeous resort! The lobby and front desk areas are stunning, and the firepit right outside was absolutely dreamy for evening hangouts. Our room was comfortable with cozy beds, but I was disappointed to learn that daily cleaning only happens if you call to request it--so ours was never cleaned during our stay. The pool was fun, but it closes at 8pm, which feels a little too early. It would be amazing if they extended hours to 10 or 11pm. The biggest downside was the very loud AC system. Even when we turned ours off and cracked the window, we still heard the neighboring unit running all night. It definitely made it hard to sleep. Overall, though, it's a beautiful property with a lot of charm--perfect for family gatherings and downtime between adventures.

This was a great bonus. They also have a very cute outside fire pit area so we were able to have a fire outside one night which we really enjoyed. We definitely experienced some paranormal happenings during our stay which made things exciting too! Overall I would rate our stay a 10/10 and I would highly recommend staying here if you are planning a trip to Gettysburg! I know we will definitely be back to visit again!!

We stayed in the Robert E Lee room on the third floor. No elevators in a building built around 1789 or so. So totally understood. The room was very spacious, a great room with a very adequate bathroom area, nice shower, comfortable bed, comfortable sofa and chairs with a number of history and ghost books to look at in the room. We had dinner at the Cashtown Inn and it was fabulous. My wife had prime rib and I had a filet of steak. We visited the bar prior to our dinner. The bartender Brian was an interesting person who was interested in many things and easy to talk to, He made my wife a BEES KNEES drink the was fabulous, my discerning wife said she really enjoyed her drink. So much thanks to Brian the bartender. Our waitress was a young lady name Sabrina, a huge personality who was so entertaining and who knew her job and was easy to engage in conversation. A delightful person who told us she so much enjoyed the fact that we had found friend people in the dining room with whom we had a great conversation. Sabrina said she was so happy when people met each other in the the dining room. What a bright spot in our Cash Town experience she was. So it was the Cashtown Inn, a place known for ghosts. We had no experiences . No problem. Though I believe in ghosts and spirits. At around 4:00 a.m. I heard a very loud siren noise I thought to be an emergency vehicle. The noise started low and went VERY high like a wail and then faded for a long descending time and then stopped emphasizing the silence of the night.. To me, as having worked in law enforcement for 22 years, it sounded like an emergency vehicle who had turned the siren off. On the other hand, it did have a perceived emulated sound of a long ghost wail of which I thought SOMEONE in the area might be pulling our legs. Afterwards, I went back to sleep.
