However, Vyla had been struggling since the beginning of her 3rd grade year, when COVID first hit. Her studies took a nosedive and we had been playing catch-up since. Although being in school was incredibly valuable, she continued to fall behind. As Vyla entered the 5th grade, we were determined to get her caught up as quickly as possible. We considered a few other services, which all looked great, but there was something very warm and positive about Marsha when we discussed Vyla and our determination to get her back to grade level. Marsha reviewed Vyla's background, listened to all of our concerns, reviewed an academic evaluation we had Vyla complete, and discussed an education plan moving forward .When Vyla began the 5th grade, we then reevaluated what Vyla should be doing, based on what was going on in her class. Marsha focused on Vyla's gaps, and with each session, Vyla became more confident, and more focused! When we started, Vyla was hesitate, as Marsha was "new" and she was not sure if she would work well due to having to complete her schoolwork; she was worried about being over-worked. But with each new session, Marsha showed Vyla that studies could be fun! Marsha challenged her with quiz's, facts, flash cards, and Vyla could feel the improvement in her studies. Our granddaughter is in her third year of attending Maria's Montessori. She's presently in the kindergarten class. She's doing very well academically, and seems to be thriving socially. She has many friends among her classmates. The school just held their holiday program in the chapel on the school grounds. We were treated to a delightful show presenting the students, including the littlest ones. Whoever did the set design created a magical space as a backdrop for the singing and dancing. Several of the (younger) kids were more interested in what they saw on the stage versus presenting their part of the program - that's how beautiful everything was. That's all part of the charm of the event. Their graduation ceremony this past summer for the kids was equally well done. It seems evident that the teachers and aides really care for the kids and want them to shine. Our granddaughter enjoyed performing and has been asking us to play holiday music in the car. She perks up when she hears any of the songs that were in the school program, so it's all resonating for her. We pick her up from school periodically and the class environment appears organized and supportive of the students' learning process.
