I started using Tutor Corps for my son in June 2020 (for his 2020-21 senior year in high school) when they acquired Meyers Learning Center. I was very happy with Meyers and doubted that Tutor Corps could be as impressive but they proved me very wrong. The staff is very professional and incredibly responsive and the 3 tutors that my son has used have all been amazing! Most recently during the Fall 2021 semester, my son was a freshman in college and studying in Greece and needed tutors in Biology and Chemistry to help with midterms and until the end of the semester. I frantically e-mailed my contact at Tutor Corps late on a Sunday night and I heard back Monday morning and my son had a Biology tutor and a Chemistry tutor by Tuesday! All of his tutoring has been online but this has worked out really well, especially with the time difference in Greece and soon to be Boston. My son already knows that he'll be using his Tutor Corps Chemistry tutor for Organic Chemistry next fall! Tutor Corps is amazing! Great, caring, tuned-in tutors We hired Tutor Corps to help our daughter prep for the SSAT test for high school admissions. We were quickly paired with an excellent tutor (Brittany) who was able to accommodate our packed schedule and who quickly got to the heart of our daughter's issues. She helped build up our daughter's confidence and gave her great test taking strategies so her results truly reflected her aptitude. Her scores improved immensely after just a few sessions. Tutor Corps is a great resource for a wide range of tutoring needs. We hired them to help our HS freshman survive Biology, and then decided to get them on board for Chemistry in her sophomore year. Half way through the school year she has an A! The tutors are flexible on schedule changes, which helped a lot during basketball season. Unfortunately, I have found Tutor Corps to be weak in their professional obligation to provide credentialed, experienced, tutors to students. I have also found that parents are drained financially for weeks and months to receive what most would consider a 1 or 2 day lesson. I understand they are profit driven, but I would encourage parents to look locally for experienced and trained educators. They also demonstrated a high level of disorganization--cancelling appointments, having technology challenges, and not understanding the tech needs of their clients. Again, they are profit driven as is messaged by their staff. I do want to say they are very polite and cheery and anxious to students and staff enrolled. read more

We had just started with Meyers Learning Center when they were acquired by Tutor Corps. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was more than pleasantly surprised. My 9 yo has ADHD and has really struggled with his writing and spelling. Spacing was a big issue with his writing along with how to appropriately write each letter. Leah has been nothing less than amazing! She connected with Jovan right away and understands him better than any of his school teachers ever have! She has a great demeanor and approaches his work in such a natural way that keeps him engaged. She communicates with me constantly to make sure we are on the same page with his progress and what was accomplished. In just three sessions he has been able to remember his spacing and has cool ways to remember how to write difficult letters. He looks forward to his meetings with Leah each week (and so do I)! I am writing as a school administrator as well as a parent. My daughter was struggling in math in an independent high school, and the work was backing up so much that she was losing sleep to keep up. TutorCorp has done an amazing job of getting her back on track and re-building her eroded confidence. Things I truly appreciate: First, the convenience both of process (setting up an appointment and tracking is very easy) and tutoring itself. The person matched with my daughter is an outstanding tutor: His priorities are to follow the course syllabus, textbook, and handouts, rather than going off on tangents. His work with my daughter involves a lot of inquiry: "Why are you using this strategy; what might you try if that doesn't work", rather than telling her how to do the problem, or even doing it for her. His goal is to move her toward self sufficiency, rather than to foster a dependence on tutoring. They work together to do some homework (to get her breathing room), but even more importantly to prepare for upcoming lessons, and to deepen her mastery of the concepts. Their homework-based efforts are focused most on streamlining her process, so that she can devote equal time to all subjects and (gasp!) finally get more sleep. The tutor has been very willing to work with our crazy schedule, and to come in for an extra session every so often when it's been necessary. This process has measurably restored her faith in her own capacity to learn, and she is now even looking forward to seeing her grades (although that hasn't been an explicit goal for us in this process.) Finally, as an administrator I do appreciate that these tutors are vetted and fingerprinted, and feedback is solicited from the tutees' families. read more

Tutor Corps is, in my opinion, the finest of these organizations and majority of the credit goes to Jesse, their CEO. This man IS an advocate for your child. He is passionate and dedicated and personally involved in finding the exact match to your child's needs. I have used Tutor Corps for the last year - 9 months to homeschool my son where TC provided all the instruction in my home, and recently, for after school tutoring for the same child. Under their instruction, my son made up 3 grade levels in some cases and is now attending public school with an academic foundation which would have been impossible for him to have without TC. It is hard to convey how i feel about this company in a few words, but suffice it to say, I highly recommend Tutor Corps. Was VERY disappointed by the service offered. I hired TC in San Francisco for SAT prep for my daughter, a senior at a private high school. After the challenging of task of finding someone available after school, the female tutor had my daughter purchase SAT prep materials and then did very little to help her. I had to call the supervisor, Jesse, dozens of times to ask for a suitable tutor. Would not recommend them as there are much better tutor companies in town. Also, got some kind of late bill from them out of the blue months later, some kind of bookkeeping snafu. I said I'd research the payment to make sure it wasn't paid, and then I got a threatening email saying I was being charged $600 in late fees and it would go up once they call their attorney over the small amount owed. Sheesh. Times must be hard. read more

As a mother of multiple children with various academic capabilities, we used Tutor Corp for 6 years for both middle school and high school students in English, Math and Science and study skills. Our children were in both private and public schools at the time. The greatest assets of tutor corp are their organization and quick response time to staff well educated and well-skilled tutors, their follow-up to make sure that everything is working out, their abilities to adjust and/or add tutor time in and around peak periods like exams, and the flexibility to adjust staffing if needs change or something is not optimal - which is 6 years was very rare. The tutors come to your house or if necessary meet at mutually agreeable locations, if it is more convenient for the student - whose school is not close to home at the tutor time. All in all, tutor corp is a 10 in every way. They get our highest recommendation. read more
