I attended a friend's Christmas holiday event at Lake Park and it was surprising to find out what I had overlooked the last time I was there. This park has a number of FUN-dementals to offer the average city slicker. The park currently offers canoeing (weather permitting). Which we will go back in Spring to try out. They have a BMX ramp/exhibit which has areas for practicing *BMX membership required for practice. They have 3 hiking trails that span out about 1.5- 3 miles. **You can ride bikes also. It has 2 lakes: Jackson & Starvation which allows fishing and camping is allowed for non profit organizations. The park does have a few shelters for rent and if they are not reserved on a particular day they are first come first serve. Along with all of the things mentioned above the park offers a gazebo for intimate affairs like marriages. A horse-show.**Select dates. It has a volleyball space and an archery ramp. This meant that on hot summer days we could play without overheating quickly. Recently my visits have been to the softball fields and not to the park. Before Covid shit everything down, they appeared to be in the process of updating it. During the winter and early spring I participate in a softball league that plays at the fields located at the back of this complex. The fields are always well maintained and ready to go when we show up to play. Only once or twice in my four years playing has something happened that caused a delay. The manager of the fields was there and was able to quickly rectify it. The complex also features a skate park, a dog park, and soccer fields. They also have large mixed use fields located under the lights.

This park has a playground and a splashpad for kids, a small skateboard/bike area for kids, a dog park pavillions for picnics, restrooms by the play area and dog park and a really nice long walking path around the huge pond. There is also a small stage near the big open field so it would be a good location for concerts. The park is on county land adjacent to a water treatment plant, which supplies the pond with reclaimed water. What a great use of space! I will bet most people wouldn't notice that but I work for another local government so I notice those things. Lots of people were out enjoying the nice weather. People with their kids in the kids area, people with their pets in the pet atea and people like me shopping for plants. They also had some food trucks out and staff/volunteers directing traffic and keeping things nice. Again, great venue for a festival in the heart of Carrollwood Village.

Great local park with plenty of parking along Sinclair Hills Rd, although it can be difficult to…read moreback out onto this semi-busy two lane road at rush hour. The preserve has three main trails with yellow, blue and red blaze marks on the trees. There is a map at the entrance so take a picture before heading out because you will forget. You can walk at least 2.25 miles if you follow each trail in their entirety. Several ponds and lakes make for pretty views and many birds. Couple spots with ditches and undulations make the trek interesting. The preserve is surrounded by houses so you will see those as you walk some trails. In the middle of the park, hidden a bit by bushes and trees that are slowly encroaching and taking it back is the foundation and about 4 inches of the block wall of what I assume is Violet Cury and her husband's former home. Wish the county or organization that maintains the preserve would put a marker here announcing what it used to be or look like. The view through the trees onto the biggest lake leads you to imagine what life was like for the two and their visitors back in the day when they lived there. Also wish they would clear some of the debris, roots and bushes that are slowly taking it over. Worried future generations won't be able to see the site like it is today. Most of the trails are quiet, although the ones along the south you do hear and see all the traffic along Sinclair Hills Rd. This is a pretty park where you can explore, look at old oak trees and walk the dog. Thank you Hillsborough County for buying this property years ago for our enjoyment!
