Turron de Jijona
Turron de Alicante
Founded in 1890 and now located in the cultural quarter of Valencia, not far from Mercat Central, Turrones Ramos proved a worthy stop on Monday, the service exceedingly pleasant and all of the products offered in a variety of sizes with samples also available.
Known by various names including Turrone, Turrón, Torrão or Nougat, the original version a soft and sticky composition of Almonds and Honey known as Turrón de Jijona rarely seen outside of Spain and most prominently consumed around Christmas, Turrones Ramos is one of the rare places still making all of its products on-site and still distributing from a single outlet, the original recipe still used and everything well priced in comparison to mass-produced versions.
Offering no less than ten types of Turron, everything from portable Biscuits to versions blended with Chocolate or Hazelnuts available, those looking for the best variety are encouraged to look into the small bars priced at just €2 each, the Alicante crispy between thin Wafers while the 'hard' version still fairly flexible and studded with toasted Nuts, though the double-packed Turron de Jijona still steals the show by being smooth, soft, sweet and sticky. read more
