Our family is incredibly grateful for the care and support our son has received at Turning Winds. When he first arrived, he was struggling with impulse control and behavioral challenges that were affecting every part of his life--and our family's life as well. The team at Turning Winds approached him with patience, structure, and genuine compassion. Over time, we've seen meaningful growth in his ability to manage his impulses, take responsibility for his actions, and communicate more effectively. The therapeutic support, consistent guidance, and individualized attention have made a real difference. What has meant just as much to us as parents is the sense of hope we've gained throughout this process. The staff has worked with us as a family, helping us better understand our son and giving us tools to support him moving forward. We know the work isn't finished, but Turning Winds has helped put our son--and our family--on a much healthier path. We're thankful for the dedication of the therapists, mentors, and staff who truly care about the kids they serve. read more

My brother was sent here as a teen. Him and the entire group of boys were made to stand in the February snow with no socks and shoes. When my parents finally collected him from the program he was psychologically damaged. He is now dead. Thank you turning winds, my parents remorggaed their house to send my brother to your program. I hope this helps a lot of people. After leaving the program he immediately moved out of my parents house at the age of 18 and turned to heroin, cocaine and crystal meth. Turning winds saved my life in many ways. I started my journey over 15 months ago and I left happier, calmer, kinder, more respectful, and a overall a better person. I went to turning winds thinking I didn't think that it would even help at all. My first few months were rough, and I missed home but, with the supportive staff and students, I learned to love the place more and more. I had the opportunity to do so many things that I never thought I'd do such as: Huckle berry picking, rodeos, ice fishing etc. Turning winds changed everything for me and my family. My parents and I didn't have the best relationship and I was on the brink of suicide. But getting sent to turning winds was the best thing that could ever happen to me. I thank the students and staff for everything. All of them changed my life. So, thank you for everything. -Noah Wheeler read more

I went to turning winds when I was 16 till I was a month out from my 18th birthday. This program is such a scam. I cheated my whole way through the school. I ran away (got caught unfortunately) and still made it to the top of the program ( summit at the time) it might be different now. Also owners of this program are very mormon and push their views on individuals subjected to this inhumane "rehabilitation" read more

When I went to Turning Winds just before I turned 17, I thought, "Oh screw this place, I don't need it." Mainly because I felt like I was the only one like me that was there, mainly because I'd[have] never abuse/used substances of any kind ever; and at the time most of the other people there were in Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous, I thought I didn't belong there. Albeit being sexually harrassed/assaulted multiple times by some kids and being consistently bullied and annoyed, the staff were relative nice (some were outright amazing, but that's for you to decide). The staff, for the most part, were understanding and kind. Although at times I couldn't see it, they were. Since not many people are empaths, it isn't like most people can just realize immediately their impact. I am a bit of an empath, but it's soo slight that it's hardly noticable (albeit I'm more of a sympath than an empath but whatever). Once I left after getting the influenza, pharyngitis/laryngitis several times; I'd leave after 199 days. They "were hell;" but I'd later reflect back on my time there to realize they were only trying to help the best they could... I found out later that I have PTSD... I don't know, I was in a funny farm once after I left, and that's when I clicked. I found out what my c-PTSD/PTSD was from. And it wasn't very relieving. These people are really kind; but since I'm an introvert and I get my energy from nature and solitude, it was very hard to keep at ease. I had severe anxiety, but it's a lot better now. If you listen to them, they can help you. Though, if you want the best help whilst your there, talk to the staff who listen unconditionally.. It helps a lot. You can also get a lot of help.. One thing I've learned in my life is that, no one can help you if you don't let them.. You have to want help in order to recieve it.. That's why I had such a hard time there, but I'd relive it with what I have now in my life. Though, if you're a parent and you're thinking of sending your child there, take this advice: 1) Talk to them and don't lie. You shouldn't send goons (especially if the child is suffering from legitimate emotional damage, etc..) Why you shouldn't send goons: I didn't get gooned, however I've seen the days of people who had been. For the most part, they tended to recieve massive ammounts of culture shock for at least a few days to several weeks. 2) If they are a substance person, goon or no goon, you should still think about how they will feel about it. You cannot send someone somewhere for your own good, it has to be for the both of you. 3) It is a two-way process, so if you aren't willing to recieve help as well as have help for you child, then you shouldn't do such things. This place is only for people who genuinely need it. 4) Do NOT lie on the submission sheet. Do NOT say things you heard or assumed; put things that physically happened and the emotional/physical EFFECT of the situations. Don't do it because you are scared of your child or because you're worried: Do it because they/you NEED it. Also, good luck. It's a sweet bitter challenge. read more

I went to Twai on December 22 as a complete bum and scumbag and overall a shitty human being. The place is very welcoming and truly saved my life and turned it around for the better. It is a very basic schedule you wake up have breakfast go to school for two or three hours get some free time eat lunch have 3 groups a day dinner and then like more free time. I came to turning winds in February of 2023 and left in January of 2024 I'd say turning winds put me in a much better place than I was in or heading towards and the experiences I got there are things I will remember for a very long time in many ways I enjoyed my stay but of course had some hard times just like anyone would at a long term treatment facility and I think I learned a lot from other people attending turning winds and the staff. Most staff were very understanding and even were able to get on a deeper level with you and talk through your hard times which I think is very important. Turning winds all around did good for me and I'm thankful I went but I think that a lot of things could have been done differently by higher ups for starters I think my parents definitely didn't appreciate that my treatment team told us they'd stay in contact for a bit after I left and check in but had 0 contact when I left, and for the therapy personally with the therapist I was assigned I really didn't get much progress there I feel as if most of my progress towards changing was done by myself with other peers not exactly from therapy. I found a lot of imperfections with turning winds that I think should be fixed but other than that I'd say in a way it helped me majorly. read more

Transformative for my child and my family. Turning Winds is an amazing place for children that are struggling with significant trauma. The program there really focuses on the whole person with therapy, academics, socialization and physical activities set in astounding natural environment. I was able to develop strong relationships with everyone from the counselors to the administration. I found Turning Winds operates transparently, which was huge as I was sending my child over 1,000 miles away for care. Turning Winds empowered my child to overcome their many challenges and provided them the tools they need to not only heal, but for continued success. I cannot say enough about Turning Winds. Their entire process is spot on and literally saved my child's life and has enabled my family to heal and have a unified future in front of us. read more

My son recently completed the program and graduated High school. He accomplished 2 years of credits in only 1 year in the program and is now attending college. The staff at TW are loving, patient, and committed to supporting these chidren. They have dedicated their lives to this work. My son lacked empathy, accountability, self worth, respect, healthy relationships/boundaries. The staff helped him and our family work on all of these struggles and than some. They gave him all the tools he needs to succeed in this crazy world. On graduation day my son stood up there and thanked me for this opportunity and told the other kids that TW was a gift and not a punishment. If you have a teen struggling, I highly recomend you look into their program! read more

Our experience with Turning Winds was outstanding. Our son's life was in danger when he entered treatment. We had watched his behavior and mental health degrade over a couple of years and had tried everything from therapy to hospital stays to a three-month residential program. None of it worked and we were afraid that we were going to lose our son. One of our challenges was that the laws in our state require that our son consent to any kind of residential treatment. Another challenge is that our son needed more extensive treatment. So while our son agreed to the three-month program, it had no effect because it was more like a summer camp to him, with pranks and an escape and non-engagement in general. He wouldn't have agreed to a more extended stay, which is what his condition required. We learned about Turning Winds (TWAI), and it met our needs. Montana, unlike our state, doesn't require that the child agree to treatment. We didn't know tons about TWAI, but our understanding was that TWAI emphasizes character development as a key component of the treatment plan, and for us that was an important factor. It's a difficult decision to send your child somewhere for a year even with full information, but all we had were a referral, web reviews and discussions with the staff. So it was a bit scary but we were pretty desperate at this point. It turned out to be a great decision. For the first few weeks our son complained about the staff and said that they were mean, but the sense we got was that they just didn't take BS from the kids. Over time we came to understand (even from our son) that this was in fact the situation. The staff are actually quite warm and caring. We had a wonderful therapist, Jordan. My wife, son and I all connected immediately with Jordan and she was helpful to all of us. One thing that's important to know is that the family therapy sessions are based on the assumption that everybody involved has some introspection and growth to do, not just the child. For sure this was true in our case, and Jordan was able to guide us in those conversations to keep them meaningful and positive. Thank you Jordan! Our son has been back for about half a year now, and the change is night and day. Behaviorally, he went from being a poor student to being a straight A student. He now has a job. He's been clean with respect to drinking/drugs (the behavioral differences are obvious, and his school gives him regular drug tests). He has developed various healthy interests and pursues them with enthusiasm. We are grateful for all of these changes. The transition hasn't been perfect -- TWAI told us that it's never "perfect" -- but all in all it's been positive, and any challenges that remain are completely consistent with normal teenage challenges. We'll take it. Thank you Turning Winds. We really appreciate what you've done for our son and family. read more

I cant even begin to say in words the gratitude I have for Turning Winds. As if the last 2 years haven't been challenging for all of us, I must say how difficult it was for my teenage son. I don't know where we would be without Turning Winds, they truly saved my sons life. My son is about 9 months or so in and turning the corner on coming back home and getting on with his life. Ive noticed a complete turn around in my sons behavior, maturity, focus, communicating with people (& family). Also the fact that my son completed his (11th) grade with flying colors, from F to A- is remarkable. The whole TW staff is fantastic. From ownership to the chef are all top notch. The therapists are really good at what they do, very committed, caring and direct. The teachers are great as well.... on top of all that Troy, Montana and surrounding area is one of the nicest in the USA,. I have visited 3 times and I'm in love with Montana. Best decision I ever made sending my child here. They are a team and that's what it takes. We have been in and out of other places but this is where a difference was made. They have something special. They are genuinely caring and well equipped to handle many issues. My child was not just safe but made significant progress to a happy and healthy life. The general public needs to be more informed of these types of schools and how they are quietly scamming families and treating their children like slaves. This is truly an awful place. Turning Wind's morals are highly questionable and they truly care more about taking money from your pocket than actually helping your child. I attended this school for a year several years ago and my parents truly regret their decision. They way they go about disciplining children is highly questionable and borderline torturous. While I was there one of the punishments would be taking a chair to face the wall. Some kids would sit in the same chair and face a wall for 15-20+ days. That's not discipline, that's torture. The Baisden's are too dumb and lazy minded to tell the difference. Additionally, they have several staff members there that would openly harass children. While I was there, I thought their behavior was normal and that's how adult's treated kids. Now that I'm an adult, I look back and can't really fathom how some of the staff there acted towards us. After much retrospection and years of living life I have come to realization that the way the Turnings Wind's staff treated children was inhuman and completely unacceptable. One genuinely most think twice about spending the money to send their child here. The general public needs to be more informed of these types of schools and how they are quietly scamming families. read more

Turning Winds has helped our son become the person we knew he could be. From the first phone call, TWAI has exceeded our expectations. Fast forward to today, one year later and one week from his graduation. It was by far the best decision we have ever made for him. The staff is excellent, they genuinely care about their students. The support we received for our family was outstanding. If you have a teen that is struggling, Turning Winds Academic Institute is the place to go! Trust the Process! ~Janice & Rob B read more

I've left my contact info and I have tried to call these people. They have yet to call me and when I attempted a call to them, the message said that the mailbox was full and no messages could be left. It seems that I am not the only one they do not have time for. They give no location on the ad I originally saw and nowhere is there pricing info to be found. There is a "rating system" to be found on another site yet you are not given any choice but to give them 5 stars regardless of what you put down. It's sadly "humorous" that you can say "They suck" and yet you must give 5 stars! I do not trust this group!! read more

UPDATE: Bullshit response from the owner only reinforces the point of my original review. Of *course* rates vary! That's no excuse to not give a *range* and *average* prices on the website. Ridiculous. Not surprised that this business has other terrible reviews on Yelp. The owner's replies to the other negative reviews are similarly laughable. The business could use this as a learning experience, but instead they double down on their incompetence. That's good, because now people get a clear signal that they should stay far away from this place. read more

After 2 months at Turning Winds I finally feel my daughter is getting the care and consistency that she desperately needs. Since April 2020 my daughter has been struggling with severe depression and anxiety. She has been in 4 hospitals and 3 residential facilities since then but what I have found is 30-45 days is just not enough time to make the changes my daughter needs. Turning Winds has everything my daughter needs between the education, the therapy, the routine, and the STAFF. I am just back from visiting my daughter and I am confident she is in the right place that will help her find peace and the focus she needs to live a successful life filled with joy. Thank you Turning Winds- from the first day talking with admissions to dealing with insurance to helping my kid actually start high school. I am grateful to all of you. read more

We have nothing but gratitude for Turning Winds and all of their staff. From out first interactions as we called desperate and looking for a place who could help our son, to watching his progress and the light come back into his eyes, they been amazing. Truly every person there has touched our lives and his in a positive way. From the directors, counselors, and teachers, to the RAs, nursing staff, and amazing kitchen crew, every interaction we have had with the Turning Winds staff has been nothing short of inspirational. Additionally, they have shared their own stories and struggles, and they have laughed and cried with us through this process. We cannot begin to share how difficult the decision was to send our son to Turning Winds and how conflicted we were in making that decision. As we look back now, we have no regrets. We can wholeheartedly say Turning Winds saved his life and our family. read more

I have severe PTSD from my experiences there. The hard labor and daily over-exercise started a Chronic Pain Syndrome that will never end. I will never stop being in physical pain they worked my child body so hard. I developed Neuroses and Psychoses and was medically neglected no matter how sick and in pain i was. The psychological and emotional abuse and gaslighting was so intense you had no choice but to fall in line, and if you failed it was your fault for being a bad person. Turns out I'm Bipolar, Schizoaffective and a dash of aspergers so i was being told i was doing things wrong by people who didn't even know why i was doing anything. I was a confused kid. Don't make your kid into what i've become. They deserve kindness and love during their recovery and even dealing with anger. read more

To say that Turning Winds saved our son, is truly an understatement. He was defiant, depressed and an angry troubled teen. He was using and selling drugs. By February of his freshman year, he had one more class to skip and he would be expelled for the rest of the school year. Two months prior in December, he and a friend stole a car. Receiving that phone call from the Police Department is every parents worst nightmare. Your stomach just sinks. We were at a fork in the road. Do we make a leap of faith and chance it? Or do we let him ruin his life. We decided to invest in his future. We have never looked back. TW met him at his level of needs. No two children are alike and TW is very much aware of that. In the year he was there, the transformation was amazing. He went from wanting to be a "professional skateboarder" to going on to graduate from Gonzaga University with a business finance degree. Unbeknownst to us, when he graduated from GU, he had a plaque made dedicated to Turning Winds. It said how instrumental they were in directing his life. He is now living in Seattle as an inventory analyst for a medical company. We are so very proud how far he's come. If your child or daughter is in need of help, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to put your child in the hands of Turning Winds. If you ever want to speak with me directly, contact Turning Winds and tell them about this review with specifics. They will know who my son is. I can give you a call and we can talk two way. Sending our son to a therapeutic boarding school was one of the most difficult decisions we have ever made. The challenges that presented itself at home; including threats of self harm and impulsive and unsafe behaviors, made a placement such as this our best option for our family. My son has now been at Turning Winds for 2 months. Eric made this stressful transition more manageable and the teachers and staff have been amazing. My son is seventeen years old and we have had little success during our 12 years of pursuing out patient help. It didn't take long for his therapist, Jared, to get to know him and start not only helping him overcome his anxiety and work with him on social pragmatics, but develop a close relationship with him. He is thriving at Turning Winds, thanks to the staff that love and accept the students and are truly motivated to make a positive difference in their lives. read more

The decision to seek help for a loved one was not easy. Upon reflection my wife and I decided the time to act was sooner rather than later. We were advised to look into Turning Winds Academic Institute for help. We are glad we chose this facility. Turning Winds is family run and that family spirit permeates every aspect of services offered. Non-family staff delivers same level of quality service as family members. In our experience the sentiment of Turning Winds was clear; to return residents as soon as possible in an improved state of well-being. This is not a "mill" with a "cookie cutter" approach, interested in revenue instead of rehabilitation. The staff showed genuine interest in helping our loved one achieve the goals of the program. Bad news was delivered with compassion, good news was delivered with joy. Communication was timely, direct and effective. We experienced no "run around" or unnecessary processes, in fact, we believe Turning Winds staff (Mountain Time Zone) went above and beyond the call when it came to dealing with local (Eastern Time Zone) agencies. This is a difficult review to write, given the sensitive nature of the services rendered and the goals of the program. Suffice it to say we were absolutely pleased and would highly recommend Turning Winds Academic Institute to any family needing this type of service. We are thoroughly pleased with the results. read more

Our son is currently attending Turning Winds. Before we enrolled him, his grades started to drop, then he started skipping school, and he ended up failing most of his Junior year. He aligned himself with very bad influences, got involved with drugs and alcohol, and we thought we were going to lose our son. Our family was in despair. We then found Turning Winds, and after a lot of research, we had him brought to the school by the transportation services of Positive Solutions. I'm happy to say we made the best decision we could have made, and our son is now doing amazing in turning his life around. Everyone at Turning Winds truly cares for each and every teen, and I'm so thankful we made the decision to get our son the help he needed. I'm willing to talk to any family that has questions. Just ask Turning Winds to provide my contact information. God Bless anyone reading this review - because your family is probably going through hell just like we were. Happier days are out there if you get your teen help - and I whole heartily recommend Turning Winds. read more

One time scott bourassa pulled the fire alarm while our group was sleeping at 3 am in February. We all had to go outside in our socks and stand in the slush for about an hour. I guess he pulled the alarm because he could do what he wanted as a staff and enjoyed seeing kids cry for help and suffer. Still don't understand why he did it. He called it a "drill". My feet are still cold from that. I noticed in their advertising they post a lot about teen suicides. A lot of kids I went to school with ended up dying after they got out of the school. A lot of the time they were using drugs to feed there depression and ptsd the school had caused them. I worked a lot digging that tench for the staff house. In the rain and snow. Never got paid. Just carried buckets of mud all day. I met a lot of cool kids there but we all now share the same view point on the school. It was traumatizing and a lot of us don't understand how to go on after that. When I got transported in the middle of the night it was so scary. 2 guys violently grabbing me telling me there gonna put me in a car and drive me to Montana.... man my moms cry's about it when I bring it up. I'm not sorry for posting this to Enoch and all them. I understand you're working for the school to make money cause you have family's but in the long run you guys hurt me and others so much. I may not be bill f but I am a past student. I was successful in the program because I had no other choice. I missed my Family and friends. I lost the last years of my aunts life who was like a mom. Because I was stuck at this place. I'm 24 and still have nightmares about it. Still makes me sit silently at the end of my bed soaking in my memories of such horrific times. I climb every day and am super healthy I also love life and love to help others. I'm a top human being of this world and I care about other people more then myself a lot. I just wish it could have been different. You may not see this review if you're a staff member but if you do you gotta change something. The single most traumatic experience of my childhood. This school is owned and operated by racist, mysoginistic, grossly under qualified religious fanatics that use abusive, aggressive tactics of punishment and mental manipulation (rather than genuine therapeutic work) to break the spirit of rebellious youth to "cure" them of their issues. Among their abusive tactics are "the wall" where they send you for a minumum of 24 hours in a chair in the corner facing a wall where you are not allowed to do anything, say anything, you are given one hour of reading time, and if you open your mouth or are caught looking around the room or breaking any of the ridiculous rules, they add another 24 hours, and another. One kid was there with, the youngest by 3 years in the whole school, sat in isolation for over a month, losing his mind and acting up only to have more time added. This poor kid cried daily and begged to be let off the wall. i can only imagine where hes at now. We we're not allowed to have conversations there unless supervised, there was usually 2 staff for 60 students, so that would amount to roughly 2 supervised conversations a week, given out randomly, the staff always chose favorites. Brandon the nerdiest kid went nearly a month without a conversation once, John one of the staff members made fun of him for it and often picked on him for being physically weak and "emotional" They censor your letters so you cant tell your parents about all the cruel and unusual practices and punishments. They force hard labor every weekend to cut costs on the achools expansion, this is not regular "character building" labor, ive experienced that before and seen that in other programs, this was intense back breaking labor for 8-10 hours every weekend. We dug a 10 foot deep trench by hand, something thats typically done with an excavator, to bury electrical wire for the schools upcoming expansion. They also had us in the same classes and main room and all the same activities as the girls program, we were inly seperated for sleep, but we were not allowed to look at each other or talk to each other, this was strictly enforced. My crush Ashley and i were put on the wall for 3 days for looking at each other during lunch one day. They justified this punishment saying they put the genders in the same room to tempt us on purpose and "teach us the strength to control temptation". mormons. Absolutely insane. And to add, This was all done under the guise of being "an academic institute". Their academics program is an absolute joke. I joined the school quarter late, so rather than join me in my class and tutor me to catch me up to speed, they assigned me a book and told me to write one book report at the end of the year, and they would give me credit for my math and science and ELA for junior year of highschool. They claim to turn kids around and help them graduate to get into higher education, the reality is they give out highschool diplomas here with little to no actual education, the minimal education they have is only to fool parents and show a high percentage of successful graduations for their "students" I looked into it and the people who own this school had their license taken away in a different state before moving to montana. They are absolutely criminal and deserve life in jail for the trauma they inflict on youth and the wedge they drive between youth and their family which usually manifests down the line once a brain washed youth takes their life back. Ive stayed in touch with a few of the guys, some of them were "believers" and graduated only to realize they had been abused into submission. My parents thankfully were skeptical and pulled me from the program 4 months in. Ill always remember what saved me, i was reading les miserables and my family representative (we were only allowed one phone call a month, someone else talked to my parents and told them what im up to on a weekly basis) my rep pronounced the book "less miserables" having no clue its a french classic. academic institute, what a sad joke. My son was 16 and in a very scary, sick, dark place in his life. We sent him to a private school thinking that would help bring him back to the great kid he once was. His time at private school ended quickly and was not helpful at all. We then sent him to a military school which was not a good fit and also ended quickly. Both of these options proved more harmful than helpful. I researched for the best option and fit for my struggling son who was failing school. I found Turning Winds on the Internet and began making calls and doing as much research as possible. This was my son's life. My husband and I were at such a loss. Once I reached out to Turning Winds I was connected to Owen. He was one of the most patient, kind people I have ever met. After many phone calls to the owner, John, Carl, other families, and Owen it was decided our son would go to Turning Winds. He was almost one year behind in high school at that time. Going to Turning Winds was going to help him graduate in 12 months if he did the work. For this reason, he left on his own accord. Once he arrived there, he was not happy and sometimes wouldn't even speak to us when we called, which as a mother is very difficult. That was better over time and he started emailing us regularly. It was a long hard road for our son at Turning Winds but the level of care, consistency, belief, and passion of the staff, emotional and mental therapy (Emily was amazing), and drive that the staff had to help him was the reason he turned his life around. He graduated in 12 months at TW. He came home a brand new kid ready to live and love again. He had a passion for school, family, mental health, and his physical health (thanks to Enoch). OUR son was back! After he left TW he went to college and received his AA degree. He is now graduating with his BA in business in March 2023. He plans to take his LSAT and apply to Law School this summer. I can't thank Turning Winds enough for being a part of my son's journey. He would not be the person he is today without them. As a mother, sending my son to Turning Winds was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. It was scary, it was emotional, it was just all-around difficult. I look back though and know that my son was at a place in his life where he needed that extra support and we didn't know how to help him anymore. I am not a failure actually a very good parent which made the decision to send my son easier. My husband and I have been married for 33 years and have an older son who is a lawyer. We love our boys more than life itself but we finally came to a point where we knew we needed more help if we did NOT want to lose our son. Thank you Turning Winds for all you have done for me, my husband, and my son! This experience has forever changed the path of all of our lives and we are forever grateful. Like Share read more

Turning Winds was instrumental in saving my son's life and our family is forever blessed by Turning Winds. He was on a self-destructive path marked by violence, crime, and substance abuse. Through their care, he was not only able to return to the kind, funny person I always knew, but he also developed a completely new perspective on his life. With a combination of individual, family and group therapy, behavior modification tools, strong accountability, building character and leadership, and a deeply dedicated staff--from teachers and RAs to therapists, nurses, and administrators--Turning Winds creates an environment where real transformation can happen. It's clear that everyone there has a genuine passion for helping teens succeed. Before attending Turning Winds, my son struggled significantly both in school and in life due to his ADHD and mental health challenges. He often felt overwhelmed and discouraged, and he began to believe he wouldn't be able to succeed academically or live without relying on drugs. Watching him carry that weight was incredibly difficult, especially as it eroded his confidence and sense of self-worth. Since attending Turning Winds, the individualized support, patience, and understanding he has received from both therapists and teachers has completely changed his outlook. They've created a space where he feels capable, supported, and understood. That shift has allowed him to grow not only academically, but personally as well. It's evident that the team takes the time to recognize each child's unique strengths and challenges, and that level of care has made all the difference for my son. I also want to emphasize how impactful their family-centered approach has been. By involving the entire family through therapy sessions and parent workshops, Turning Winds helped me gain valuable insight into my own parenting style and gave me tools to grow and improve. The experience was not only supportive for my son, but also deeply educational for me. The transition planning process, which included our whole family, gave me confidence that we were truly prepared for his return home. That sense of preparation made a meaningful difference during a very challenging time transitioning home. Also equally important is the continued support offered after students leave the program. When my son returned home and began struggling, Carl and Enoch were consistently available to provide guidance and encouragement. They also host a weekly alumni support group every Wednesday, where teens can openly share their experiences and receive support from both staff and peers. That ongoing connection has been invaluable. read more

Turning Winds has truly been a life-changing experience for our daughter and our entire family. Before coming here, she had gone through years of programs . While those efforts brought some small improvements, nothing created lasting, meaningful change. As parents, it was incredibly difficult to watch her struggle with serious mental health challenges and increasing isolation. The physical separation was difficult to accept initially, but the beautiful setting has become a meaningful asset. In a safe, structured, and nurturing environment, she has been able to begin her healing process while we also work to rebuild a strong foundation at home so we can better support her when she returns. She has also reconnected with nature in a way that has been grounding and restorative. Since being at Turning Winds, we've seen a shift in her that we hadn't seen before. She is more grounded, more open, and more willing to take accountability for her choices. She's beginning to understand herself on a deeper level and is developing healthier ways to cope rather than avoid challenges. The program's emphasis on grace, hope, and accountability has given her a framework she can trust. The combination of therapy, academics, and outdoor experiences has been incredibly impactful. The structure and consistency have helped her slow down, reflect, and rebuild her confidence step by step. We've also seen her communicate more honestly with us, and little by little, trust is being restored within our family. Most importantly, we have hope again--not just because of the progress she's making, but because of her willingness to keep trying. The entire staff at Turning Winds is top notch--from the educators and therapists to the administrative, medical, and operations teams, as well as the front office and food service staff. Every interaction reflects genuine care, professionalism, and a commitment to helping these kids succeed. Turning Winds has been a true blessing for our family, providing the space for our daughter to grow spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. The impact goes far beyond treatment--it has given her, and all of us, a renewed sense of hope and a path toward lasting healing and stability. read more

I was about to give up hope for my daughter. She had been in an out of mental health facilities with no positive results. She actually was learning more poor behavior. I believe that one facility gave up on her. I have to honestly say that I had my doubts about turning winds. I read reviews and like all reviews some are good and some are bad. I contacted a friend of mine who lives in Montana, I learned that his son had been to turning winds and the conversation with him gave me hope. I first thought the application process was going to be over whelming for me. I soon realized that it was not so bad due to the instructions given and the help I received from the administrative staff whenever I had questions was phenomenal! We adopted my daughter a young age. She was in some type of mental health counseling from a very young age due to her trimitic childhood. The staff at turning winds were very supportive of us and our daughter and ensured us that she would be safe and well cared for. The first time I spoke with the therapist that was to be helping my daughter. I was very impressed with the fact that she had approximately 30 years of experience and was an expert with kids who had been adopted. I also liked the fact that she did not take any crap not only from the child but the parents as well. This first-time meeting was not a phone call but a video call so we could talk face to face. She had a detailed plan in place but also was openminded to the point that it was going to be a day-to-day approach. I started seeing improvements from my daughter within the first few weeks. She has mad great strides in her mental health and her respect for authority. I feel that they saved my daughter from herself and the relationship between she and her parents. I would recommend turning winds to other parents. read more

My son has just returned home after almost a year at Turning Winds. The Kids call it TWAI, and now I do as well. WE had some terrible things happen to our family over a few year period, and for a young child, it was devastating. I honestly did not know where else to turn, to help my child, and our family. After interviewing 8 plus schools, most in person, I landed on TWAI. I visited for 3 days, but the decision was made within 2 hours of entering the school. The property is stunning, the buildings clean, warm and heated and run by Solar Power! Owen, Principal, was honest and forthcoming on the trials ahead, not just for my son, but as a mother who was to leave her son in the hands of (well trained) others. He also discussed the opportunities that were there if my son (and I) wished to take advantage of. Hard did not describe how I felt, the day I left my son in the hands of these professionals. Day one, relief and hope and sadness. Day three, I slept, no fears.... When I visited my son after 3 months, THAT WAS HARD. My son had already begun to lose the anger, and regain himself. I was lucky enough to visit every month, learning more myself and seeing my amazing son's progression. Last week I spent several days at TWAI, and today, I take my son to enter his homeschool! I could not be more proud fo how far my son has come, and myself and our family with the leadership and support we found at TWAI. What more can I say? Do I recommend TWAI? YES. YES. YES. Get your child and your family the help and guidance you NEED and DESERVE. read more

We are so thankful for Turning Winds. Our son struggled nearly his entire life with anxiety, depression and other mental health issues. We were never able to find the support for him until we found Turning Winds. Our son was at TWI for 14 months and it completely changed his life! The staff is incredible and it was obvious that they truly wanted what was best for our son and for our family. Enoch and Jared are fantastic and it was always obvious that they care deeply for Jackson. Traci worked very closely with me on working with insurance and helping us navigate getting Jackson the support he needed. Our son is really excited about welding and building. TWI didn't have any classes in this area, but they knew he was passionate about it, so they developed a course. We felt that was really above and beyond! We sent our son during COVID which could have made visiting difficult but the team went above and beyond to ensure we could visit safely. The family therapy has been a huge blessing and has helped repair our relationship. The setting of Turning Winds is also absolutely perfect. Set deep in the woods where the kids can have space to be outside and enjoy the weather. TWI also did a really nice job of finding events to do offsite (bowling, hiking, horseback riding, skiing, etc.) which was a reward worth working hard for. Overall, I would highly recommend TWI! read more

Our daughter went through a long battle with mental health and addiction before we found Turning Winds. We were out of options and knew she needed more help than we could give her close to home. When we first spoke with Eric and shared our story, he truly understood what our daughter was going through. For the first time in a long time, we felt hope. From intake to arriving in Montana, the process moved quickly and communication was great. We always knew what to expect. The steady communication with our daughter and the staff has made this a positive experience not just for her, but for us as parents too. As we've gotten to know Bekah, Carl, Cliff, Tara, and the rest of the team, it's been clear how much they care about these kids. They've helped our daughter learn accountability, communicate better, and understand her emotions in a healthier way. The growth we've seen in her has been amazing. The education piece has been an added bonus. The teachers are amazing and really take the time to make sure our daughter understands the work and concepts. Honestly, the best parent-teacher conferences we've had in a long time. It hasn't been easy, but we finally feel like she's on the right path with an incredible staff behind her. We're so grateful for Turning Winds. read more

I was a student here. I vividly remember a staff member easily over the age of 30 having sexual relations with at least one 15 yo girl, and several staff members being strangely interested in these young female sexual preferences (not in a counseling/therapeutic) . The "school" is in the basement and is a complete joke, write stories for english, do three math problems to to complete a chapter, all the while it being freezing tile floor during winter months and for first several weeks new students aren't allowed to have socks or shoes. I remember vividly arriving in May and still freezing on that floor. Any mention of not enjoying the program is a perceived as nonconformity to the school and results in punishments, and then further time suggested to parents. It is a model that will almost certainly lead to more harm than good. Listen to your kid not the Baisdens, and do not trust Enoch. They will try and attempt to sway you to keeping you kids there as long you have the money to afford it (I would know I literally had to pay for it myself w/o consent). read more

Our experience with Turning Winds has truly been life-changing for our son and our entire family. Before coming here, he struggled daily just to get through the simplest routines. Communication was difficult, emotions were overwhelming, and relationships with family and friends were strained. Today, we see a completely different young man. He has learned how to communicate effectively, express himself in healthy ways, and build meaningful, positive relationships. The growth in his confidence and emotional awareness has been incredible to witness. The staff at Turning Winds are compassionate, dedicated, and genuinely invested in each child's success. They create an environment where kids feel supported but also challenged to grow in the best ways possible. We are beyond grateful for the tools and progress our son has gained here. Turning Winds didn't just help him cope--they helped him transform. If you're searching for a program that truly makes a difference, this is it. Our son attended Turning Winds for 8 months where he received excellent care. The staff members genuinely want to see these teenagers and their families whole again. Enoch, Ariel, and Carl were all instrumental in helping our son with his anger, social skills, adhd, Aspergers, self discipline, and resolving conflict with us, his parents. We deeply love our son and sending him so far away from our east coast home was a very difficult decision for us. Through much prayer we decided that Turning Winds was the right fit for our son. Knowing our son was safe and being looked after helped our family to heal. As parents, we were able to focus on our marriage, our daughter, and it gave us the space to breath; yet, know our son was safe and being helped with therapy. We have all grown a lot through the experience of sending our son to Turning Winds and pray that our son continues to thrive, sees just how much he is loved, and how capable he is. read more

Went here from 2016 to late 2017. Want your kid to have life long trauma and hate you for years to come?? Well then welcome to Turning Winds!!! A place where if you get into trouble you're forced into isolation from the rest of the group. You can't eat with the group you can't talk to the group you can't interact at all. If it's serious enough they will send you to a field to sit in for over 12 hours a day. If you get a bit rowdy they might even throw you to the ground. In my honest opinion places like this have no real interest in the child or trying to help them. Shoot I broke every rule in that place and still left being the top level what a joke! Also don't get me started on the school. You can cheat your way to a diploma you have to be clinically stupid to not pass that schools requirements. This place should get zero stars. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE IF YOU LOVE THEM AT ALL read more

Our teen was sent there for defiance and poor behaviors on multiple levels. They taught our teen, and the whole family for that matter, how to communicate more productively and create new healthy habits of communication. Many of our teen's behaviors greatly improved after their stay with them, and we couldn't have been happier with our experience. Our teen eventually got ahead with their credits and will be graduating earlier than expected. TWAI got us through a crisis and it was very reassuring while they were in charge since they were professionals and have a lot of experience. It was a tough time for us, but they communicated along they way and kept us up to date and engaged with everything, which helped to lower the stress levels. I highly recommend Turning Winds Academic Institute to any family in need of their specialized comprehensive services. read more

Twai turned my life around. Before I was admitted I was severely depressed with no hope in living past 18. I spent a year at twai I can't believe how much twai helped me and my family. The staff there have gone through much of the struggles a lot of the students there are going through currently therefore can understand, relate and, help them through their rough times. Even post treatment I still stay in contact with most of the students and staff that were there while I was there. After my treatment was done I still struggled but I used the skills I learned at twai to help me through l. I was able to contact staff at twai to help me. I would totally recommend anyone struggling with depression, drug addiction or behavioral issues. Shout out to John Sr. for helping me complete my eagle scout. read more

We enrolled our teenage daughter in Turning Winds after she emerged from a wilderness therapy program aware of healthy coping mechanisms for her depression and anxiety, but not yet fully practicing them in her daily life. The family-like atmosphere of Turning Winds coupled with its beautiful, natural setting helped her practice and integrate new habits in a safe and supportive environment. Over the past 10 months, she has grown more confident and developed her own style of leadership. We are so grateful to the Turning Winds staff for guiding her to be the best version of herself. read more

When my child arrived at Turning Winds, he was suffering from suicidal ideation, high anxiety, and depression. He was barely verbal and not able to make eye contact. Now he is completely changed. He has hope for his life and plans for his future. Not only can he speak and advocate for himself, he has become a leader amongst his peers. Seeing him now is like I have my child back. The way he was as a little kid compassionate, friendly, playful -- except all grown up. Thank you Turning Winds. read more

Our son was fortunate to work with an amazing therapist who, in addition to the other staff, helped him gain confidence and work though issues of anxiety and addiction. The leadership program is excellent and played a crucial part in his development. Anyone sending their child to any program like this ought to know that this work is a struggle for all involved and it takes active participation by all parties (including parents/family/caregivers and the young adult themselves). read more

Our son has been at TWAI since December 2021 and has made significant progress... he is maturing and managing life much better. The program is solid and the staff are very devoted and competent. The engagement with parents is continuous and thorough. The assigned clinical psychologist, Rob, is expert and establishes good rapport with the students in his care. We think very highly of staff including Carl, Enoch, Cliff, then nurses, and many others. read more

This program helped my cousin in so many ways unimaginable. He was addicted to drugs hard core. He was horrible to be around. He was mean. It amazed me when he came out of this program. He was a completely different person and I want to thank all of you for doing that. He is clean, super fun to be around, and an amazing person. These people rescued my cousin from a life that no one should live. So again, thank you!! read more
