The store is huge and just feels more complete than the store in Boiling Springs. Their meat department has a great selection and I would recommend anyone looking for steak to go here for quality. Yes, their "deals" often involve buying meat in bulk, but even for the extra dollar a pound to buy it without the deal, you get what you pay for. Their ground sirloin is out of this world for things like hamburger helper or tacos! The soups are another highlight - it's like walking into my grandma's kitchen! Homemade style soups are always available on their hot bar, and some are prepackaged cold. Our favorites are their Corn Chowder, Lobster Bisque, and their Corn and Shrimp Chowder. The only downside is the price. You get it by the pound, and if you use the big container, you could easily spend almost $10. That's a bit steep for maybe two portions, but the quality really is amazing. They run great deals on things like frozen pizza! Their pies and baked goods are decent quality too, though I'd recommend getting these early in the day as many are made overnight. Fresh in the morning doesn't always mean fresh in the evening! Cat food and litter is reasonable as well. Two 20 pound containers of litter is maybe a dollar or two more than one 40 pound container at Target or Walmart, so it really isn't worth the drive when we can just grab this at Karns. North Middleton got a great boost when Karns brought groceries back to this side of town!

They have a great selection and everything and their meat counter is legendary, but When comparing grocery stores it eventually comes down to customer service. Groceries are groceries and most stores have a wide selection, as well as occasionally not having that one thing you need. I really like that Karns supports the local farmers. But this example is really all about how they take care of their customers, which is really what counts when it comes to a business review. I ran to Karns quickly to pick up a couple things before the storm that I knew was coming arrived. I was only in the store for a few minutes but came back out and the rain was starting. I noticed immediately that there were some people gathered around a convertible that had its top down. It was parked close to my car so when I got closer I realized that the car's battery was dead, and the driver could not put the top back up. The next thing I noticed is that Kristen, a Karns employee, was standing there holding an umbrella for a lady who is apparently the wife of the driver. There was also another man there trying to help. Noone had jumper cables so I ran home to get mine. I only live 1/4 away, so it was easy. I Got back got into position and we started trying to jump the car. No luck. To make things worse, the storm was hitting full force just about the time we were hooking up the batteries. It was no use... His battery was pretty well dead. There is nothing to do but wait for AAA. Just as I was getting ready to leave after he assured me that he would be okay, Kristen came walking out from the store carrying a tarp that was big enough to cover the whole car! She sort of apologized because it took her so long to find one that was big enough. I'm pointing this out now because this is not an unusual situation. I have seen Karns employees helping people many times in ways that go well beyond simply stocking shelves or ringing up groceries. This is what makes Karns a great store!

The girl there pulled the paper and stuttered over what was written, then said maybe there was a miscommunication between the baker and froster. I pointed out they were clearly NOT green. I had no time to get them changed or to pursue at that point. I needed to go. I did notice that she quickly tore the form up. Probably because she knew it said green and didn't want anyone else to see it!!! I plan on going back to speak with a manager. I was not happy. They looked like a baby shower NOT a bridal shower!! If we need a prescription, we usually have them called into here. There's nothing terribly convenient about the store: the parking lot is lumpy and not particularly easy to drive around in. The pharmacy, though convenient, is small. The store is well-stocked but the prices seem high. There is always at least one cashier and frequently two available. What makes this a four-star store? The people who work here are, without exception, friendly. Weis donuts rock. And Weis ice cream is terrific. The ice cream selection here is outstanding! Also, coffee seems to be on sale here for better prices than Giant and frequently wallys. Tonight, I stopped in for ice cream for our apple pie and Angel waited on me. As usual, like everyone else here, she was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Smiles and being pleasant go so far!
