The cruise was very fun and a highlight of our trip. In the beginning, everyone will crowd out on the deck and then the boat will hit high speeds to get to the fjord and many people will go inside. Then they will all come out when you're about to enter the fjord. For a short time, they will let you go outside in the front and that was very cool. There will be yummy cookies at the snack bar and they will sell out. Get one early if you want one. You can also bring your own snacks on board.

I purchased my tickets through the online portal about a month before our trip to Norway. I don't…read morebelieve you really have to do this because the line for ticket buying is pretty short and there are kiosks along the way inside to buy tickets. Also, if you happened to be in the line to buy tickets, you just enter afterwards, instead of waiting in the prepaid ticket line, it's kind of a cheat. At least that's what we observed. The line for the prepaid tickets was extremely long, going down the block for a bit but it did move fast. We got into line around 235 pm and we ready for the funicular around 3pm. For the length of the line, I thought this moved very fast. When you enter the gates to the funicular, be aware of the people counter. It counts down the amount of people that can enter. So if you're a party of 5 people and it says only 3 more can enter, you will be split up if you enter. There are like 5 gates so you have to pay attention if you want to stay with your party. There were MANY people who did not seem to understand this and started yelling at or crying to the kids working the line. There is nothing they can do, it's a safety issue and you will have to meet your party at the top of the mountain. Also, the last lane (most left handed) is for disabled people or people with strollers. It's kind of a d*ck move to go to that shorter line if you aren't one of these people or in a party with one. But karma hits hard and if you do try this little sneak, you'll probably end up waiting even longer because the special car it leads to has a small capacity and that line moves slow. Other than that, this funicular is a nice ride up and down the mountain, with plenty of spectacular views and cute moments to see.

We arrived and immediately went through to board the next car. It runs frequently so no real wait. We were also lucky to avoid the earlier crush of cruise ship passengers. We took the entire west coast of Norway trip over seven days on the Hurtigruten MS Nordlys. It was…read morewonderful. We had booked a small cabin that was just too small for two people to be moving in at the same time. I went to the front desk to ask about an upgrade and that worked. Yes, I had to pay for the upgrade but we ended up opting for a mini-suite. This had a king size bed and a TV that was two scenes, one facing the bed and the other facing the couch. Also a nice bar area, but standard ship sized bathroom. Very comfy and worth the price paid. Meals were centralized, buffet and were excellent as to variety & quality. Our group had arranged for a beverage for each person at every lunch and dinner, so wine, beer or soft drink were included. This is a working ferry that stops many times day and night to take on or drop off pass angers, mail and/or equipment. After the first night, we never heard the docking and departure noises. The coast of Norway is vast with many settlements along it. Some are too small for anything large to dock and others just large enough. The in and out of port work is amazing to watch. Very efficient. The ship has outdoor seating areas and indoor cafes, ice cream shop, bars and gift shops. There is an optional restaurant where you seat in a separate area, order from their menu an are served away from the mass feeding in the main dining room. Crew is exceptionally nice, courteous and accommodating. There was at least one port of call where we could leave the ship for a few hours to see sights and history. We would do it again, maybe traveling from north to south on another Norway trip. Highly recommended.

We did a one night cruise as our way to travel from Bergen to Alesund Norway. It was about a 13…read morehour journey. We did get a cabin with an outside window. It was a small very basic cabin. You won't confuse this with a big cruise line. We did notice that some people did not get cabins and just slept overnight in lounge chairs in the one lounge. Not sure how many nights they allow that. If on a budget I could see why because for two of us (no food included) it was nearly $800. Without cabin it would be around $212! The ship is relatively small compared to the giants on the sea these days. We wandered around the ship it's nothing fancy. We slept OK but since it pulls into different ports in the middle of the night it can be loud. At least the seas were calm. We did eat at their buffet that evening and it was just OK. Not the best for $65 a person. We decided to skip breakfast since that buffet was close to $38. We spent the morning watching the beautiful Norwegian coast pass by before disembarking in Alesund at 10am. As a way to travel between these towns it's not cheap but a fun adventure!

The whole place is kind of creaky - floors, doors, furniture, stairs, and the walls are kind of thin. Typical of older construction. Not a problem unless you're a very light sleeper.

It's got 7 cosy bedrooms each with a washbasin. We share 2 showers and two toilets but it really isn't a problem. There's a sitting room filled with books and memories (and tea and biscuits). The owner is super nice. The breakfast filling and typical. Just be careful if you come from the train station, as the walk to the pensjonat is steep and full of steps.

Everything from a Michelin recommended restaurant, to street food, to the fish market, to a craft brewery and more. This is an absolutely outstanding tour. We've done several of these in cities around the world, and this is as good as any of them. It's time well and deliciously spent.

It's not really walkable so keep that in mind if you want to park and then walk the rest of your Bergen trip. The hotel was just okay. Eclectic decor filled the lobby. The staff were nice and smiling. It has parking but fills out so you have to pay the machine (same garage). Vile smell down there. I saw what I think was possibly sewerage draining down. Yuck. Spots are tiny and close together so parking can be an obstacle. The room wasn't that great. No AC so we had to rely on having the room windows open and listening to street sounds (including techno music at 3am) each night. Not much room left once we put our luggage down and we even moved a case back to the car to make room. Television was a bit wonky - kept trying to insist we use Chromecast and we had to unplug it a few times to get it to go back to normal television. The bathroom was small, and in every Scandinavian hotel apparently, flooded the floor each time we took a shower. The bed was pretty good. Mattress felt nice and the pillows were comfortable. Not a horrible place to stay but not close enough to walk downtown. There's a Kiwi grocery store right next door. The restaurant looked good but we never checked it out. I think the rooms were a bit overpriced for the size and what you got (and for the noise due to lack of AC). I likely would not stay in this chain again.

7/06/2024 - taking this airline from Bergen, Norway to Munich, Germany. Total time is about 2.5…read morehours. It's a smaller plane and waiting area at gate E28 sits about 50 persons. It's right next to the restrooms and several restaurants. So far so good. Nice and clean everywhere. Groups A and B can bring only 1 item in the once. Group C there are no carry ins unless you pay for it. I had the option to check in 3 bags for free with Group A. Side the plane photo as well.
