Where the lake that separates Forster from Tuncurry flows out to the sea there's a small beach roped off with buoys that you can splash about in to your hearts content, safe in the knowledge that you couldn't find a safer place to swim if your drunk uncle dropped around and set up a kiddy pool in your front yard. Which actually doesn't sound all that safe.
There's a cafe that does food and coffee and hot soups in winter, there's a walk along the rocky promenade out to the point with views over the big main beach, and there's pelicans. Big ones, that stand as tall as your shoulder, with blue legs and giant webbed feet and those expandable beaks that could hold entire families of refugees. Can you pat them? That's not rhetorical, I'm asking if they take kindly to patting. I'd like to try, but then I also value all my fingers. Maybe I'll let someone else try first. read more
