TOURISTS BEWARE Stopped in on a trip to Paris. The restaurant is small and intimate. The music was lovely and it was cute to have a tuk tuk in the restaurant. We enjoyed the appetizers of fried spring rolls but tourists beware-the staff tried to scam us into "walking us to an ATM because their credit card machine was down today" near the end of the meal when it came time to pay. No mention of this when we arrived. We refused to go to an ATM and did not have cash-suddenly the credit card machine worked again. Hmm... We ordered curries and were not asked spice level. Everything tasted flat. Also-we were charged nearly 5 euros per entree for rice that should have been included in the meal (a total 20 euro up charge). Not tourist friendly. A really small Thai restaurant tucked away in the streets of Paris. If you can sniff this place out, it isn't fancy or expensive but they know good Thai food! During our vacation in Paris I just had a sudden craving for Thai food so I looked this place up on trip advisor. We ordered the papaya salad (Lao style with the fermented fish sauce), chicken red curry & shrimp pad Thai. The pad Thai was one of the best I've ever had, more on the tangy vs salty side. The papaya salad was potent from the fermented sauce(that we requested) but it was so addicting! Spice level was perfect for everything. The red curry was just ok. I was expecting more richness & flavor but still tasty. Service is OK, since it got really busy. We came during lunch & it filled up within a matter of 10 mins, with people waiting outside. Come early to secure a seat. They said dinner time is much better & not as crazy but it's worth a stop over if you're craving some Asian goodness. read more

BE HERE AT 12 SHARP. I can't stress this enough. Tuk tuk is tiny and difficult to maneuver in any case, but if you arrive early you stand a chance of having a stress-less meal. My friend and I were the first ones to arrive at noon on the dot after having booked (note that they take reservations until 12:30pm). We ordered five minutes later and the food arrived just 10-15 minutes after that, hot, fresh, and delicious. While the music is western (they replayed the Hotel Costes soundtrack on shuffle--and loudly), the decor, staff, and most importantly the food, are not. My friend ordered the green curry and I the shrimp fried rice. They came in large white bowls, spiced appropriately (the curry wasn't hot enough to burn your lips, but it left a pleasant burn at the back of your mouth and throat). The fried rice was well oiled and perfumed with onions (spring and white), and I polished it off easily. That was no mean feat: the serving sizes were large. The side of rice wasn't included in the price of the curry, though, as it should have been (you could choose between regular and sticky rice). By the time we finished eating twenty minutes later, the restaurant was so packed that we almost couldn't make it out the door. After accidentally elbowing the waitress and bumping into two seated customers, we made it to the counter to pay. That was the longest part of the experience: there was one man behind the counter who was organizing takeout, printing receipts, and trying to give approximate timing to the people waiting to be seated. I'd return for a quick Thai lunch fix, but won't expect to carry on a conversation. Between the loud music and the overcrowded dining room, it was far too loud to even stay for dessert. read more

Make your way to this hidden gem buried on an assuming cobblestone street in the heart of Paris. To set the scene: a small dim-lit space and real-life Tuk Tuk (Thai taxi) welcome guests to this authentic Thai spot. Wooden table tops are adorned with votive candles and intricate silver water cups. The two guys who run this place speak multiple languages, including English! We've been brushing up on our French but it is certainly a treat to be able to read a menu and know what we're ordering. Ahhh, the simple things. They never once made us feel bad for not knowing French which is somewhat rare in this city. The prices are incredibly reasonable...between 5-6 euros for appetizers which include spring rolls, dumplings, soups, etc. and 10-13 for entrees; choose from chicken or shrimp with pad thai, curry or cashew nut. We ordered a lemongrass soup which was chock-full of citrus notes and fresh herbs, as well as spring rolls and fried dumplings with white-meat chicken. Perfectly crispy and delicious. We then got the chicken pad thai. Rather than being doused in a thick peanutty sauce (aka Americanized pad thai), the dish was much lighter, in a subtle fish sauce. We added a pinch of red pepper flakes and a few spoonfuls of crushed peanuts and voila: perfection! My only negative of the night was that the food came out too quickly. We were served appetizers and our entree at the same time, so by the time we got to the pad thai it wasn't really hot anymore. The waiters went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, chatting with us about our travels and life in Miami..they even taught us a few Thai words to use on our honeymoon. Overall, the experience was solid and I'd definitely recommend a visit to anyone looking for a break from bread and brie. read more

Since this place had great reviews and I was intrigued by how their website claimed they specialize in Thai 'street food', we had to try it. I'll tell you right now that the street food bit was BS - everything on the menu the night we went was standard Thai restaurant fare. But things got off to a good start with the tom ka gai, or chicken lemongrass soup, which was bursting with that pleasing aromatic flavor, and had a nice spicy kick, as we'd asked them to make everything spicy. The papaya salad was also pretty darn good. Things went awry, however, with my green curry chicken, which was a very run-of-the-mill green curry that you can find at any mediocre blah Thai place. My wife's stir-fried chicken with cashews was a thoroughly Chinese dish and had no place on a Thai menu. The only winning dish was our friend's yellow curry chicken, which was surprisingly good. I don't normally get yellow curry because it's milder and sweeter, but the chef actually seemed to put some special care into this one, maybe because it was the day's special. Our friend clearly had a better experience than us and would give it a higher rating, but despite some decent starters, my wife and I thought this place basically kinda sucked. There may be some truly good Thai food somewhere in Paris, but you won't find it at Tuk Tuk. Maybe we've been spoiled by the utterly mind blowing Sri Thai Imbiss in Vienna (we lived in nearby Bratislava for three years), as well as several great Thai joints back home in the Bay Area, but we expect better than Tuk Tuk. read more

I was in Paris and was tired of heavy French food. Looking for some Thai as a change of pace, I was hoping this would fit the bill. The food was average. Nothing to write home about but not horrible. I think the biggest complaint was the lack of flavor and spice normally found in good Thai food. Never the spice tray was a feeble attempt at getting flavor. I started with the chicken won tons and they were exactly that. Diced chicken in a won ton wrapper, no spices, herbs, or seasoning. I followed with Pad Thai with shrimp. Unlike Americanized Pad Thai it had a lighter sauce. Unfortunately, it was quite sweet with none of the usual enjoyment of Thai flavorings. I did have fresh Mango for dessert and it was very fresh so no complaints. All in all a blah dinner. Not sure if a return visit would ever be needed. read more

Ordered takeaway from here one day for lunch and I have to say it was really disappointing. My pad thai au poulet was white, all of it was white, as I found out from the lack of sauce on the dish. It's not that they forgot the sauce either, it was there alright, but just so light and the chicken was cooked separately to the rest (so was not flavoured by any sauce at all) and then piled on top. The reviews had me thinking this would be good Thai food. It was not. We ordered takeaway and threw it in the bin after a few bites. The Pad Thai had the wrong noodles (vermicelli), little sauce and the chicken was cooked separately so it all tasted very bland, similar to the fried rice. The spring rolls were soggy not crunchy. I have to say that I am SOO surprised by all of these positive reviews. We made reservations at Tuk Tuk because of all of the reviews. I was VERY disappointed though. The waiters were nice, but the food was very average. I have had Thai food in many major cities such as Washington DC, Miami, London, etc but this was definitely slightly less than average. The spices were weak and service was bad. Prices were not terrible but def I felt that I wasted my money. Its a SMALL restaurant so be prepared to knock over some furniture on your way in :-) I do not recommend this restaurant if you good taste in Thai food. read more
