I am not from the Roanoke area. I am in town doing some physical work that requires much lifting…read moreand bending. Given that I have significant back issues with stenosis, spondylolithiasis, disc degeneration, a sizable bone spur, and arthritis in the L1 and sacrum area, massage is a therapeutic modality that I require on a regular basis. My particular situation is somewhat dire in that most people would probably have capitulated and had surgical intervention. However, I don't see that in my future. Chiropractic ART, pharmacology, yoga, physical therapy, acupuncture, etc. are all arrows in my quiver that I use routinely. In addition I receive spinal injections every three months that cost $9000 per shot. Fortunately I have insurance. I was reluctant to try to get a massage here it as I don't have familiarity with local businesses nor have I heard any recommendations for who is good. Fortunately, I did make an appointment and had what can only be described as the best massage of my life!!! My masseuse was a delightful woman named Lulu. She is remarkable. She seems to have a keen understanding of physiology and an intuitive sense for those problem areas that plague me. Prior to my injury, I saw massage as an indulgence. Now it is a requirement. I have had countless massages since my injury in 2015, but none has ever approached the skill and insight that Lulu demonstrated. And compared to the cost of the spinal injections this seems almost a bargain. There is no way I can thank her enough. The relief I feel is nothing short of remarkable. Makes me wish I live in Roanoke!

I arrived 10 minutes late, but I called ahead before my appointment to let them know I was on the way. Once I arrived, I was still required to complete intake forms and was asked multiple times what areas I wanted worked on. I clearly stated I still a full body massage, but excluding only my head and glutes. Between filling out forms, getting undressed, and technical issues with the table, additional time was taken before the massage even began. However, none of this was communicated to me as time that would reduce my session. When the massage started, only my neck, shoulders, and back were worked on. The session ended shortly after, and I did not receive anywhere near a full body massage. I was confused and disappointed. When I brought this up, I was told it should have been a full body but then the receptionist switched up and stated it was because I was late. While I understand that arriving late can affect timing, I was never informed that my service would be shortened, nor was I given the option to adjust expectations or reschedule. It is misleading to ask a client what areas they want worked on--multiple times--if there is not enough time to perform the requested service. Additionally, I was told conflicting information about how late I was, and it was made clear that the next appointment was prioritized over completing the service I paid for. I have visited before and never experienced this issue, even when time was needed for forms and changing. This experience felt like poor communication and disappointing customer service. I paid for a 60-minute full body massage and did not receive what I paid for. I will not be returning and would not recommend this experience to others.

My first…read moretreatment went well, with an extensive discussion of my general health and lifestyle, pain issues, etc. Greg did a treatment which consisted of acupuncture and massage, and my back did feel better for a day or two. That's when the problems started. The next step is to have a conversation with Greg's associate Jonathan, who spends over an hour on the phone giving you the hard sell, replete with the psychological tricks, upsells, financial discussions and pressure tactics you'd expect in buying a car, not treating a medical condition ("if you sign the contract today..."). But the coup de grace is when they send you the contract. Yes, you need to sign a contract to get treated, and not your garden-variety 'I understand there are risks involved' type. No, this one's a full-bore, legalese 7-pager, replete with non-disclosure, payment and collection terms, release from liability (even for injuries caused by negligence), etc. They require payment for all 4 months of treatment, presumably even if you decide to cancel [I refused that part up front, so they changed it slightly but not much.] And, by the way, I spent 30 years in business management and understand how to read contracts; I pity the less experienced person who's supposed to get through this with no preparation. I was looking for medical treatment, not to negotiate my future. I don't understand why anyone would get involved with this to get your back pain treated. Beware!

The owner/practioner proceeded to do an intake asking all the basic questions that a physician would ask. He talked to me and asked me to lay on the table as he proceeded to lower the lights. He then stuck two needles in each extremity and told me to relax as he placed a heat lamp over my abdomen. I almost drifted off to sleep after a while. When it was over he returned to the room removed the needles and that was it or so I thought. After I paid his father I proceeded to my car and suddenly noticed .............My pain and stiffness were gone. Still not truly believing that this could be possible I drove home. I went into my home and told my husband that something strange happened. I said, " The pain is gone."This was not at all what I expected. That was almost 4 weeks ago and some part of me wants not to believe that the pain that I have lived with off and on for years has suddenly left my body. The Dancing Crane is Salem's best kept secret. When I return to my Primary Care Physician, I will recommend The Dancing Crane to all of her hard to treat patients with chronic pain issue. This is my first review and I plan to give frequent updates. The facility is exceptionally clean and has a soothing vibe.
