There was a copy of 'The Chap' magazine (produced in Lewes) on display in the menswear section, which set the tone for the rest of the shop. The guy that runs it is sweet, and obviously an enthusiastic collector. I'd recommend this place for an interesting present, or just a place to pass a bit of time!

The outfits were really unique and lovely to look through - some were plain, others made with intricate patterns, and most looked flow-y and comfortable. Prices were very reasonable, with tops usually around £20; sweaters and coats between £30 - £40. Greenwich Village also has a wide range of accessories - scarves, headbands, jewellery, shoes...and there's a home-ware section near the back. I was drawn to the large wood carvings - though these were a bit out of my price range - and the decorative cushions. There were many staff members around the store, all friendly and ready to offer assistance if needed. I recommend this shop for a unique and leisurely shopping experience.

Its a feast for the eyes; everywhere you look, beautiful, bright clothing and curtains and bags are draped around. This is a really great place to buy gifts, with things like ethnic jewellery, scarves and woolly sock slippers dotted all over the shop. Prices aren't too bad either, you can pick up a really colourful scarf for as little as £6! Towards the back of the shop, there is a larger room that is home to all sorts of interesting bits and bobs- again, great for pressies. Dig around in little pots of earrings and sift through the trinkets, purses and key rings to see if anything takes your fancy. In this second room there is also larger items such as mirrors and small items of furniture. There is also rails of clothing to peruse. Greenwich Village is a shop I love to wander around- although much of the clothing is too loud for my personal taste, the materials are really beautiful and I just like to admire other people's amazing handiwork!

The front of the shop is devoted to stylish and French looking homeware from distressed mirrors, picture frames, candle holders, cake stands and tea-sets to chandeliers whilst the back is home to a small but fabulous selection of ladieswear. There's silk PJs and kimonons, stripey bedsocks, suede shoes and boots by Chie Mihara, lovely handbags from Mimi and adorable silk scarves and jewellery. As you'd expect, the price tags are slightly higher than other local homeware stores but then, the quality feels better. And then I take the day dream inside! The Lavender Room has been a favourite shop of mine for a long time. Yes it might be overpriced and a little contrived (but seriously, I challenge you to find a lifestyle boutique that isn't!), but the fact remains that everything in store is beautiful! From the tiny heart-shaped nicknacks and the gorgeous glazed chinaware to the delicate clothing upstairs, everything is carefully chosen and perfectly positioned. Pretty silk lingerie and beautifully cut dresses drape over stylish furniture and hang on uncluttered rails. I often find myself sifting through the clothing, imagining another far more glamorous life for myself! The Lavender Room is one of the most successful lifestyle/gift boutiques in Brighton, for the simple reason that it actually makes you aspire to own everything in the shop! In the front of the shop you'll find attractive displays of smaller items, such as soaps, dishes and jewelery. These are perfect gift items- they even wrap your purchase in lavender tissue paper and a pretty paper bag!

The staff are lovely and extremely helpful without being overpowering. There is a changing room to the rear of the shop with is nice and bright so you can see what you have tried on in comfort. When you have purchased an item they wrap it up with lovely paper and pop it into a great cord handled bag that is lovingly sealed. A great shop with excellent staff.

I nearly always find something here but take time to look around there are goodies displayed every where (don't forget the ceiling). Prices are very reasonable and staff leave you alone whilst you browse. They are closed Sunday & Monday. There is free but limited parking right outside and a free public carpark behind the shops opposite. They also have an online shop but I haven't tried this, yet.

I suddenly felt wobbly as I tiptoed around, as though the warnings were a bit of reverse psychology. The shop buys and sells valuable antique furniture, jewellery, clocks, mirrors, decorative figurines and dishware. I was amazed at the quality (and prices) of some of the items, and was especially drawn to a large music box up on a shelf. It's quite interesting to have a look through, if you don't mind keeping your hands to yourself.

The shop keeper was actually doing paper mache right at the counter, which was a treat in itself. I tried to do it once, over a balloon. It's messy. Anyway, a lot of the arts and crafts were of simple materials, showing how skill can turn even basic things into art. Tissue paper garlands, hand painted envelopes and cards, a diorama and of course, paper mache creations were some of the unique items I haven't seen in any other gift boutiques recently...or ever. There was, indeed, some jewellery on display: brooches, necklaces and earrings. I definitely recommend checking out Rag and Bone for truly original home décor or gift ideas.

I step in the door and see immediately that although the style is excellent it somehow isn't as successful as it could be. The style is Victorian Gothic meets steampunk meets contemporary arts and crafts. They have some strange and interesting original art- paintings, sketches, sculptures made out of old dolls, jewellery and ephemera. They have some cool unusual pieces of jewellery, including steampunk cuff links and cuffs. There is also a wardrobe with some pieces of vintage clothing- a mix of sixties, forties and even a few thirties pieces. All cool stuff with a definitely desirable style but the problem for me is that there are too few items! Seems a strange criticism perhaps but the sparse stock doesn't seem to fit with this particular style of eccentricity- I was hoping for abundance and lots of things to grab my eye- instead I felt like it was a temporary shop with just a small amount of stock.
