I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I thought there would be Americana-type music sprinkled in with other musical influences that we have been seeing here in the US. The volunteer process was very simple. I got online and went to the Folk Festival website and signed up a few days before the weekend. I signed up to be a music logger with the understanding that I could be assigned wherever help was needed and I was OK with this. I ended up on the "Bucket Brigade" asking for donations to help keep the Folk Festival free for all Nashvillians and visitors. I was assigned to the Jefferson St Dance Pavilion where I enjoyed the New Orleans jazz stylings of Don Vappie and the Creole Jazz, blues/gospel music from The Holmes Brothers, and East African rumba tunes by the Samba Mapangala & Orchestra Virunga. I was under a huge tent which was sweet as the rain was actually pretty heavy for a while. It was a great day for music and I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Festival. It was relaxing, the festival attendees were generous, and I left at the end of the day glad that I live at near one of the cultural epicenters of our country.

I saw there was a location in Cool Springs a few months ago and surprised them finally and they loved it. We can really only do the 30 minute session for starters (maybe the 1 hour session next time) because it can be tiring but it was so much fun! There is so much to-do AND they have more than just video games, but escape games, etc. You can play with your group (some games allow 5 -6 players) or play alone and switch between games and the staff is there to help you troubleshoot if you get stuck. This location is on the 2nd floor of the TOA community center and that was a bit odd at first but once you walk into the Rabbit Hole VR suite it is awesome. I recommend bringing your kids (8+) for a nice cool break from extreme outside elements. Some games may not be good for older folks that may get motion sickness - but there are slow games and activities for them too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

It has been the very best decision I have made for myself since moving here. I LOVE CABLE. The woman that are involved in this organization are absolutely wonderful, educated, supportive, helpful, warm, friendly, and represent the best of the best in services, and companies that are actively doing business in TN. Many companies pay for their employees to belong to this.....I actually just paid my own membership and totally recommend to anybody to just do it for yourself and don't worry about what you will gain...it is worth it ----you pretty much can get as involved in this as you would like to be joining different committees, making friends and participating in events they have going on. etc. etc. There is a monthly luncheon that is optional and you will be given a wonderful opportunity to hear some motivational and inspirational speakers while meeting new ladies all the time and given a chance to speak up and share your own story ...so if you want to network for business or social purposes this is a fabulous place to do that...You can always come as my guest or contact me if you have specific questions always happy to share something that has really helped me personally... 2013/057 1st/012…read more Finding the right knitting group is like finding the right church to attend. This group regularly meets between 10am to 12pm at the Panera at 100 Oaks. This particular Panera has great natural lighting conducive for seeing your stitches or the true colors of your yarn. Unlike another knitting group I've been to, we try to keep volatile topics out of the discussions. We don't always talk about knitting. We're virtually drama-free and are very welcoming to new members, whether they've been knitting forever or just for a few months. The group ranges from 3 to 8 people at any given Saturday morning. The manager and staff are always friendly and welcoming.

I still have not gotten over the amount of rice farmer hats I see in the southern United States. This event, unfortunately, was no exception. A small-scale event in downtown, my friend and I biked in from opposing sides of town. Luckily, there was a fabulous free bike valet provided by Walk Bike Nashville. I was impressed by their professionalism and kindness during the event. However, they were in the decided minority. I spent the majority of the time walking around and trying not to be offended by the level of ignorance and misrepresentation of APIA culture. The event was reduced to face value, cultural "experiences" like petting a disgruntled and terrified Shiba Inu puppy or standing in a ridiculous line for a subpar bento. Unimpressive and just plain sad. That being said, there were a ton of white people columbusing and appropriating Japanese, Chinese, and Korean culture whether through dress or by the offensive words they chose to say. I'm quite tired of dealing with this level of indiscretion in Nashville. I do not think I will be returning to such an event due how people treat the APIA and international population. The only redeeming qualities here were the fantastic Taiko team from Houston, TX, the martial arts tent, and the Japanese traditional folk artist. Everything else seemed a bit in ill-taste.

Cultural activities: Japanese tea ceremony was very elegant and informative; Country Western band from Nashville's sister city, Kamakura, in Japan was humorous; Mochituki (rice pounding into rice cake--mochi) was humorous and entertained the participants and audience alike; Aikido demonstration was just OK for me; Kaminari Taiko (Japanese drums) troops from Houston performed a very exciting presentation--perhaps the highlight of my experience of the day, etc. Food vendors/trucks offered good varieties, but I thought they were very pricey. There weren't too many I wanted to really try anyway. Merchandise vendors were plentiful selling anything from old kimonos to some pricey pottery. Sponsor tents were giving away some freebies. Some sponsors were receiving free customer information since you had to sign up for it to receive some free gifts. Cosplayers were numerous and made me laugh. Perhaps one of the funniest things around was the Sumo-suit matches, though. Free parking at Lot A of Nissan Stadium was great with free shuttle bus to the event. Since it wasn't too far to walk back (about 1/2 miles) on a nice sunny day, we walked back to the parking lot saving $1 per person for the ride back. I know it's very hard to predict when the cherry blossoms will be at peak, but this year it was well passed the peak and there were hardly any blossoms left on the trees. That probably was the most disappointing part of this festival since it's named Cherry Blossom Festival.

KARAOKE!…read more SITREP When several people were asking on the "Nashville Talk" threads about, "What's the Karaoke scene like in Nashville?", local Nashville Elite Squad Yelpvinity Sheena T. came forth with LOTS of information for us Yelpers! [And unfortunately for her, but very fortunately for US, Nashville Community Manager (CM) Marcia M. lassooed our dear Sheena to put together a Karaoke night. And she DID! Tonight! At Lonnie's Western Room in Printers Alley in downtown Nashville! And it was so much fun! GREAT CROWD And Karaoke is one of those totally random endeavors that is totally depending on the people at the location which can change night to night, even hour to hour. But the chemistry was definitely at Lonnies tonight! LOGISTICS Tonight there was no cover, but there was a "soft" two drink minimum. However, the Karaoke DJ ladies are not paid and only make what they get in tips. So if you tip the DJs decently, there is no pressure to drink....a lot. ;) SINGING TALENT! What an incredible bunch of Yelpers! So many with the gift of great sounding pipes (NOT including me, but I gave it my all). Just about everyone stepped up to the plate and sang - here are some fun highlights of what we got to experience last night: (1) Offspring, anyone? My husband and I are both Veterans and VFW members. My husband passed away and I contacted this VFW…read morefor event space after his memorial for our family and friends to gather together. We reserved this space on 6 June 2026 from 12-3. I even visited last month and talked to the bar manager about our event. I saw my name and phone number written in their book for today. When our caterer arrived at 12, no one was there to let her in. When we arrived soon after, there was still not a staff member there. No one answered the phone. When staff finally arrived at 3 and we called, the person had a list of terrible excuses. And even if any of his excuses were adequate, he had my name and number and could have called me so I could have time to reserve another space. What a terrible way to treat a deceased veteran and his family and friends. My husband and I have given YEARS to the VFW as officers and I'm beyond disappointed. Luckily, VFW 1291 offered us their space at the last minute and saved the day. The last thing any grieving family needs is to have to deal with this sort of thing when they're already going through so much. This VFW is poorly managed and does not care, nor support, Veterans and their families.
