They played for our 40th wedding anniversary/vow renewal ceremony this past August 23rd at Arizona Hops and Vines, one of our fave wineries. Their leader, Margy Eller-a lady with the voice of an angel-(and a wonderful bodhran player as well!) is a good friend of ours. She arranged things so the band would be ready to play for us and our guests. All of Aris have day jobs; some have two-but they practiced their hearts out preparing for our event. They WOWED us, our guests, AND all the patrons on the grounds of the winery who were lucky enough to be visiting that day and got to hear this awesome band play and sing. We told the winery owners there was no reason to close the winery for our event, because in bygone days, one's whole village would turn out for a wedding! Margy's daughter Ashley came with her mom and did some traditional step-dancing for the occasion. I was floored. I'd thought about hiring a dancer for the event, but there wasn't enough time. Lo and behold, out of the blue...we had one, and she did a splendid job. Aris-what a talented group they are! This wonderful band gave ALL of us memories to cherish forever. Huzzah!

They really set the mood for the party. They did songs like La Bamba, the Mexican hat Dance, and Hotel California, among many others songs not recognizable to my gringa ears. They had amazing vocal talent as if they were channeling the ghosts of Mariachi Vargas. They were decked out if all the required flair and I thought to myself everyone needs some mariachi embellished pants, well at least stretchy waisted ones if you are on a taco party bus. They were also extremely funny- joking that the water at Boca was actually tequila. I would hire them for a party or special event anytime. In fact, I am considering it for my daughter's two year old birthday bash. Stop right there moms- do not steal my idea. If I had the dinero they would be serenading me at my pool nightly.

Had I have any advance notice, I could've made sure he had the form and track list. I felt bad for him having to do this unprepared.

It went great…read more The event coordinator, Jo, was gracious, helpful and collaborative, providing everything we needed and helping us even to hang a piñata (which we cleared beforehand). Honestly, I had so much trouble getting other venues to call me back - she was such a relief and a help. When I went to see the place in person a few days before, she showed me all around and everyone I met was warm and welcoming. The Y has all the things you could need - tables, chairs, etc. and you can bring all your own decor and food. Costs were so reasonable. The Historic Y has a great mission of its own which made hosting there even more meaningful for me and my family. Thanks and respect!

This is a great place to catch a performing arts event. From dance concerts to the symphony to…read moretheatrical and musical events, it's a fun outdoor location. You can bring a blanket to sit on or a chair. There are also a few cement benches directly in front of the stage, so if you get there early enough you could also set up there. Many times during events there will be food trucks on the periphery. Make sure you bring a flashlight if you're attending an evening event when the sun will set while you're there. There are also bathrooms nearby which is nice for an outdoor venue. If you want to make more of an activity out of it you could also go early for a walk around the park, which is large and features playgrounds as well as the rose garden and the dog park. Lots to do here and centrally located to the rest of the city!

This is a neat little area with unique, cool, and enjoyable events hosted here. Concerts in the…read morepark are a nice way to spend a weekend day. We recently went to a new event called "Art in the Park" where there was not only musical performances, but also short plays. It was fun! The acoustics are good enough. I don't have any trouble understanding words spoken or sung, and I thought the instrumentals sounded pretty good. The viewing angles are pretty good, too, with very few, if any, blind spots. There isn't much bleacher seating available, and bleachers are uncomfortable anyway, so best to bring your own lawn chair or beach towel to sit on. Stay on the sidewalk as much as possible while walking to the stage, or keep your eyes very peeled for dog poopies that inconsiderate park goers tend to leave. Probably the same goes for watching where you place your beach towel! I'm glad this area exists and that there are events held here for us to enjoy!
