My partner used to live in Sudbury so when we went for a quick trip we just HAD to stop there because he's been raving about their buffalo tempeh tacos for years and I had to find out if he was full of it or not. Server finally returned 15 min. later to place our order. 15 min. later finally provided glasses for the water. 15 min. later, still waiting for food. People who arrived before us were not given their food. Gave up and left hungry after 45 min. So the service was terrible. Have eaten here a number of times in the past and had better service with great food. So very disappointing. read more

This is my first time trying vegan tacos and it was a very postive experience. I was debating between getting #1: Cesar Chavez or #3: Carnita Jack. I ended up getting the latter as the server highly recommended it. I also added a small side of guacamole. Whilst waiting for my food, they offered me chips and (housemade?) salsa. When the tacos arrived, I wish I ordered 2 instead of 3 as they were very generous with their portions! Nonetheless, I finished them all in one seating :p When biting in the taco, I really couldn't tell it was a vegan taco in terms of flavors or texture. It taste just like the regular carnitas tacos I have eaten many times. However, when I ate a chunk of the jackfruit on it's own, the texture was definitely not like it's meat counterpart. It was less firm and somewhat "airy". The presentation of the food was beautiful and the environment had a cool vibe. Walked in not knowing it was a vegan joint. Randomly walked in assuming it was a Mexican joint but was pleased with the overall restaurant and their menu. Ordered the black bean bowl, everything was packed neatly for take out. A good amount of various fresh toppings, sauce, and seasoning. It was a good bowl but the rice did not cut it. It just did not blend in right in my opinion, think a different grain or flavor would have been better. Would go again to try their other options such as the chili, burritos, just seen online their jackfruit sandwich. Nice clean place with good takeout/delivery app packaging. As a non-vegan, this was my first time at Tuco's. The restaurant itself is quite small, I'm sure the patio is larger in the summer. I also don't believe they have heat inside as it was very cold inside. As a non-vegan, I have nothing to compare it too however it was tasty and it was presented beautifully. I didn't enjoy the texture of tempeh, however that's a personal preference. I'd love to try different menu items to explore! read more

These were some pretty darn good tacos! I tried the phish tacos and the la playa ones, both were delicious (however the phish taco was definitely my favourite). The atmosphere is really relaxed and inviting, with great service. Prices for a vegan place were not too bad either, with lots of different options. I was checking out the other food everyone was ordering and it all looked delicious. The washrooms were also very clean, as well as the restaurant itself. The only thing I would mention is that the seats were a bit uncomfortable but considering how great everything else was this was a very minor thing. read more

Great place for anyone vegan. They have stars beside any meals or parts of meals that have gluten. There are a variety of gluten-free options. A great place for anyone with dietary restrictions. I would recommend it to those who aren't vegan as well. Although, the menu may look a little bit intimidating to someone unfamiliar with a more plant based diet. The food is great, the meals are big and the atmosphere is nice too. The best time of year to go to Tucos is the summertime because of there nice patio seating. You will also be able to walk across the street to Beards or Flurples. Beards and Flurples are two other completely vegan shops. Beards is a coffee shop and bakery and Flurples is an ice cream shop (both offer gluten-free options as well). Great places to go grab some dessert after your meal at Tucos. read more

A nice addition to the local restaurant scene. As may have already been mentioned in other reviews, the atmosphere is reminiscent of what you might find in downtown Toronto - energetic, hipster, trendy. Very cute and lively indoor seating area and patio. The location is a bit out of the way, and not in the finest neighbourhood, but it would appear as though there is an attempt to add more colourful businesses to the area (which will help change the scene). That being said, this place is pure vegan Mexican. There's a decent amount of choice, but I wish there were more, particularly with regards to desserts and beverages; there was a decent alcohol list, but no Mexican beverage staples, like horchata. I had quesadillas and shared regular nachos. Having never tried vegan meals before, my palate didn't notice the dairy and meat alternatives. Both dishes were delicious. The nachos were a generous portion, but I felt there could be more to the quesadillas. There were four pieces offered with some sides (beans, etc) but I felt the quesadillas themselves were super tiny. Perhaps add a fifth quesadilla, or make three that are larger? I just felt I devoured them and still hungered for more, so I wouldn't recommend them as your only good order if you were super hungry. The price was fairly decent - no real complains there. Service was slow, but our waitress was incredibly kind and attentive. It is a small joint, so I can imagine how busy their kitchen is on a busy night (and on a weekday evening, it was very busy - great sign!). The wait is worth it, but don't come in super famished. All in all, worth a try if you're interested in something different with a hip vibe. Fun fact: just a bit up the street are some filming locations for the Canadian show Letterkenny (the convenience store and the pub). Pretty neat for a fan like me! read more

I am going to give this place another chance by choosing different menu options next time I visit but based on the food I had today I was disappointed with the taste. The flavour wasn't there. I've had vegan tacos many times before and everything tasted quite bland. The jackfruit on the carnita tacos was not seasoned well and wet. The pico de gallo was disappointing as well...I could barely taste it. Adding even some cilantro to the tacos would have amped it up a bit but I was disappointed there was none. Normally it's in pico de gallo but not the case here. Some recommendations would be to add some awesome hot sauces as a choice for topping, to allow guests to mix and match tacos to see which ones they prefer and to serve the churros with some in house caramel sauce read more

I was in Sudbury visiting all the way from California. I was craving Mexican food so I thought I'd check this out. It's so close so San Diego/Baja Mexican food I felt like I was back at home. I'm not vegan but it was still so close I wouldn't have really known. I got the phish tacos and carnitas. Wow. I topped it off with a michelada. The michelada was so good and tasted like the California ones at our Mexican restaurants. I now have a favorite place in Sudbury that gives me a home feel. Plus, all the servers were awesome. Excellent. Five of us went and all loved it and were satisfied. I had burrito bowl - very nice. One kid had nachos - huge & yummy. One kid has tacos and loved them - three fair sized tacos. One kid had sopas & enjoyed them & was full. Hubby had burrito and was pleasantly surprised it was vegan, was satisfied & said it tasted like a burrito. The staff is super friendly and the ambiance is amazing. It felt for the night like I was in a Toronto trendy pub - it was fantastic. You lose yourself and forget what that area of Sudbury was or is and what the owners are trying to morph it into is fantastic - trying to bring it around. The drinks were great, we shared a nacho plate. The seitan was a little spicy for me, so I may order it without next time (but it may have just been that day for me, I just wasn't feeling the spice) The one complaint I have/had is that the (although beautiful and fancy pants looking) wooden benches and stools made from reclaimed wood were rather uncomfy, especially on my rather big bottom. read more

First off I am a meat eater but have wanted to try and reduce my red meat consumption for fitness goals and I met a local girl here who promised a phenomenal meal. She was right on the money. If all vegan food tasted this good I'd convert. Tried the nachos with chili, buffalo tempah tacos and my favourite the grilled pineapple tacos. The tacos come in sets of 2 or 3 and we went with the three. The taste and flavour was incredible and for the vast quantities that we received I was left feeling full but not bloated, a key in what I look for in a place. The after taste sits nicely on the roof of your mouth and I'll be making this a staple here. I'm just shocked Sudbury now has a hipster district lol read more

I am a HUGE supporter of local businesses, especially local businesses that serve food; and because I love good quality food, I took my first lunch hour at my new job to run up the street to Tucos. It was a long anticipated event for me; having lived in Calgary when it first opened, I lived vicariously through stories on social media and friends about the awesomeness of this joint. I'd been waiting forever to dine here and today was going to be my day. When you walk into a place and its hoping with people and sounds of dining, I knew made an excellent decision. I had originally wanted to sit out on the patio but when I saw how busy it was I opted for take out, as its usually the quickest option. WRONG! I ordered one item and after 45 minutes of waiting, being told it would be another 10 minutes here and 15 minutes there; I had to give up on the dream. A wasted lunch hour and I had to ask for my money back. Tired and Hangry; tears actually rolled down my face from shaking with hunger as I took my $16 back from the server. Did they offer their apologies? Yes. Did they offer me a coupon so my next meal was on them? Yes again. Tucos Taco Lounge did everything a business should for an unhappy guest, except give me my lunch. I was truly disappointed that they had no way of streamlining take out orders. In fact, because I had spent such a long time waiting on the retro couch, I was able to watch just how s.l.o.w. service was. At one point, there were 5 plated meals simply sitting there..... I won't go back to find out why the food's so good. I feel I just dont have an afternoon to wait around for my meal. You may think I don't give restaurants second chances; and you're right. Veganism isn't a very common in Sudbury and there are often very few, if any, vegan or even vegetarian options at many restaurants. Unsurprisingly, Tucos doesn't advertise itself as vegan (apparently that deters some non-vegans??) but yes everything is plant-based and animal free. The taco salad is amazing, the lentil-walnut crumble on top plays a convincing role as ground beef. Honestly I probably would not have noticed a difference if I didn't look closely. I've been pining to try the chickpea blondies but alas, they have run out every time I go to Tucos. read more

He took our food and drink order and basically it never came until I spoke to another server about it. My server never returned to apologize for the mistake. I'm a die hard carnivore and I love Mexican food. We've been disappointed with Sudbury's selection of Mexican cuisine (see La Casa), so thought we'd try Tuco's. The space is cool and clean, and all the food looked good. As mentioned, I'd much rather eat steak than veggies, but the food tastes so good it doesn't matter. The flavours are great and it all seemed very fresh. The salsa verde was yummy! I don't even know what was in my tamales, but they were tasty. I definitely didn't feel "hip" enough to eat here but I'm glad we did. What a pleasant surprise! A friend recommended this place, which has a very relaxed, low-impact vibe. The music is perhaps a little loud, and it probably wouldn't hurt to keep the doors closed during mosquito season. I had the Bad Seitan Burrito, and my wife had the Phish Tacos. Both were vey good and amply proportioned. The food is fresh; service took a little longer than what you might expect in a place like this. The beer selection is rivalled by the hot sauce collection. Both are proferred without hesitation, and make a nice complement. A very enjoyable change of pace from the ubiquitous chain restos and faux roadhouses. read more

It is located on Kathleen Street which isn't the nicest part of town however adding more awesome restaurants to this area will hopefully change the vibe of the location!! Short version: Highly recommended. Try all the tacos if you can. This is great food, so please don't write them off just because there's no meat or dairy. I grew up in Sudbury and although I haven't lived there in just under a decade I do go back to visit. A friend brought me here (thank you, Jessica!) over the holidays and I was more than impressed. I found the atmosphere to be just right. The service was not 100% solid the night that I went but to be fair it was fairly busy and the staff were very upfront that they were still figuring things out, having only been open a couple weeks when I visited. Expect cafe-style ordering, delicious tacos (that's all we tried), and a nice beer selection as well! I would highly recommend bringing a friend (or a large appetite) and trying all the tacos, but if I had to pick only a couple I'd recommend the jackfruit and "phish" tacos (1 and 4 as of this writing). Of course that's only a suggestion, there's much more than tacos on the menu and I would love to go for breakfast/brunch to try some of those dishes. I suspect (and hope) that the taco selection and menu in general will evolve over time. I was happy to see the place was busy on a Tuesday evening and I only hope that continues because I won't be around much to patronize Tucos. This place doesn't scream "vegan!" and I think that was a smart decision. It's great food period, and hopefully flying under the radar a bit encourages non-vegetarian/vegans to try them out despite what may be perceived as a lack of meat or dairy. To cut this novel short, I know I plan to visit Tucos whenever I'm in Sudbury, and I'm excited to try more of the menu! I can foresee an amazing patio popping up here in the summertime. read more

The food is so good that you don't miss the meat and all of the ingredients are fresh and delicious. This is a must visit for any foodie trapped in Sudbury. It's nice to see that the northern migration of the hipsters has brought some good to the region. They even serve top notch craft beer. Amazing! read more
