I had reached out to Rudy three months in advance after researching and contacting many other caterers on Yelp. Rudy was the most knowledgeable and receptive and he let me know exactly what and how he would be serving everything. I was most impressed that he had attended Culinary school and it definitely showed in the details of his presentation and the quality of the food. We ordered the Carne Asada, Al Pastor and Chicken, all of which were huge hits at the party. We decided on having enough food for 45 and we had plenty of yummy food left over! Everyone raved about the food, the service and how accommodating and helpful Rudy and his assistant Elvia were. They showed up well ahead of time to set up in our backyard, which wasn't the easiest. But he did it without any complaints. When I was worried about not having enough lighting in the backyard, Rudy brought enough of his own equipment to make sure the cooking and serving areas were all covered. The Evite said there was going to be a taco cart. That sounded yummy. Something different for a Memorial Day Weekend Party. When we arrived to the wonderful Joy P's home, we could smell the tacos all the way at the front of the house. We all agreed it smelled good. With rumbling tummies, we made our way in so we could partake of the delicious flavors in the air. Once we found said "taco cart," we were impressed. Not only were they grilling fresh tortillas, meat and vegis on site, they also had all kinds of accompaniments to enjoy with the tacos. They offered the chips, guacamole, beans and rice. Then there were the salsas! There must have been 3 or 4 different types, as well as a combination of minced onions and cilantro, cheese and the obligatory limes. There was also horchata, which was a first try for me. It reminded me of a cold chai tea. The lush in me decided it needed a little vodka to make it just right. I had called Rudy to make reservation at the last min, but he was so kind to fit me in his schedule. Especially when it was also his birthday weekend. Tu Tacos came out to Sequoia Park in Monterey Park to make the magic happen. The plan was to do tacos for lunch and flag football for hours. I never hired a catering service before so I was really crossing my fingers that nothing would go wrong. I based my decision on choosing Tu Taco based on the Yelp reviews, and yup it was true. The tacos were amazing. Rudy and his team came right on time and did not waste time on setting up his awesome homemade grill. He provided carne asada, el pastor, chicken, rice and beans. And of course tortilla chips as well. Everything was out of control mind blowing. None of the meat had any cartilage or whatever. High quality stuff. His pastor was Uh...mazing. One of the best catering experiences I've ever had! Okay, so I wanted to go a little different for our wedding's "rehearsal" dinner (it wasn't really a rehearsal, just an excuse to have all of the out of towners for another weekend festivity). I wanted a taco truck in my parents back yard, and Tu Tacos came through with such flying colors! They are professional, nice, accommodating (they were very happy to accommodate some vegetarian needs), and best of all, the tacos, rice, beans, quesadillas, and salsa were AMAZING! Being from So-Cal, we are spoiled, but now that I live in DC, I can truly appreciate when Tacos are just amazing. The meat was tender, the tortillas good, the veggies were fresh. And at the last minute we had fewer people than expected so instead of too much food, he brought some famous margaritas (virgin and non) and served those up. He handled everything with ease, kindness, professionalism and cleanliness. Rudy and his crew did a fabulous job not only feeding our guests but communicating with me months, weeks, and days before my wedding. They are professional, reasonable, and responsible. 03/13/13: We just had Rudy and Neomi come out again for our luncheon. 50 happy people! Again, just as delicious as the first time, and there was so much food! The pork tacos are to die for, and that red salsa is delish! I want more, now! Rudy, I'm a huge fan! 11/28/11: We hired Rudy to cater a luncheon for about 40 people at my office. Not only is it authentic, down to the home made salsas, beans and rice, but really delicious! The aromas wafting into my office while he was cooking were so mouth watering, I had to go outside and ask for a sample! On top of that, Rudy and his assistant were so cool! I hired Tu Tacos for an "end of the summer party" for roughly 50 or so people. They were friendly and nice when the order was being made. We reached an agreed upon price and everything was set. On the night of the party, the cook arrived on time and the tacos were delicious - a huge hit! BUT, the price changed at the end of the night when it was time to pay the bill. We didn't add anything (food, service hours, special requests) and nothing had changed since we had agreed on the price. But it was $50 more than when we placed the order. The cook tried to reach the boss, but to know avail. I'm not sure what happened - was the boss trying to cheat us? Maybe. Was the cook trying to swindle some money out of us? Maybe. Was there a misunderstanding? Maybe. Whatever the case was, it left us without cash to tip the cook because the supposed new bill ate up the money we set aside for a tip. The worse part of this whole deal is that afterward, I called Rudy SEVERAL times over the following two weeks without one single call back. It completely ruined Tu Tacos for us. I will never use them again. My advice: Get the agreement in writing. Be careful who you speak with. Be wary of the customer service. read more

We reached out to Tu Tacos about a week before our company Christmas Party. Last year we had Indian Cuisine and I had to pick it up myself! I smelled like curry the whole weekend; but I digress. Rudy responded promptly to my phone inquiry and sent over a simple quote that was easy to read: -Number of people -Travel fee (if you're outside their 25 mi. radius based in Ontario, NOT LA) -Optional gratuity fee -Total cost. I ordered for 35 people and paid $400 flat including the travel fee and tip. Not bad. We didn't have any of the extras Tu Tacos offers (hot dogs, bacon wrapped links, hot links, quesadillas, veggie tacos, or extra sides like cheese & sour cream, or Margaritas). We just ordered the basics: carne asada, grilled chicken, al pastor, rice, beans, chips, horchata, salsa bar and taco toppings. I was a little disappointed that they are based in Ontario and travel to LA, when they are listed as based in LA. They do, however, bring all necessary utensils and paper goods. Tu Tacos ONLY accepts Cash or Check. ** 4 Stars Bang for Your Buck ** All they needed to know was what kind of agua fresca we wanted (Jamaica or Horchata), what time I wanted food to be ready to serve, and if there were steps they needed to climb since they needed to setup their grill. Rudy and Neomi weren't at our party, but they did send 2 young men, Lucas and Chris, who were incredibly polite and showed up 40 minutes early! Unheard of! They setup all by themselves and even cleared our patio so guests could maneuver around the grill and toppings tables easily. They only serve for an hour, but Chris and Lucas stayed an hour and a half. They have great conversational skills and were interacting with our guests and making suggestions about how to pair the salsas with tacos and even made wry jokes when people went back for seconds. They cleaned up EVERYTHING, asked if we had containers for all of the extra food, they packaged it for us, and said thank you for having us before taking off. ** 5 Stars Customer Service & Punctuality** I know you really want to hear about the food. The meats were served hot and delicious. The al pastor was a little over marinated/juicy for my personal taste, but no one else uttered a single complaint. The rice was fluffy and the beans were refried. The variety of salsas and toppings were flavorful and the agua de horchata was sweet and cinnamon-y, definitely not made from cheap powder mix. Now, I know it was pretty dang cold outside and we ended up having a group of about 25 show up for food, but I didn't think it was the greatest idea to have all the mini taco tortillas heated from the get-go. I'm Mexican and I like my tortillas hot off the skillet, not from a giant stack that's been sitting in a warmer. But, did I eat? Oh yeah. Did I get seconds? You bet I did! ** 4.5 Stars Quality of Food and Flavor ** Overall score: 4.5 Stars. We had a surprise retirement party for 60 people and practically everybody came back up for seconds. They were there preparing and setting up an hour and a half before the guests were there. There were a few vegetarians in our party so they were able to prepare vegetables and quesadillas, and for they even were able to make gluten/dairy free quesadillas with the supplies we provided for them. After reading Tu Tacos' reviews on yelp and the fact that he offered a vegetarian option for me I decided to call Rudy to cater my mother's surprise 60th party. He was really good about sending me info via email about his various food offerings and services. I should mention that I found his prices to be REALLY GOOD! The price he gave me for 40 people included beans and rice while other taqueros charged similar prices for 3 meats but did not include beans and rice. These other taqueros offered them at an additional charge while others didnt even offer it as a possible option. On the day of the event I was a little worrried about what the food would taste like because my family is a very traditional Mexican one that doesnt really care for "Americanized" Mexican food, but Im happy to announce that they absolutely loved Rudy's food and found it to be very authentic. My mom and aunts claimed the meats tasted fresh and were flavorfully seasoned. The beans and rice also won every one's approval, especially mine! We hired Tu Tacos last Saturday for a backyard retirement party. There were about 80 guests. Rudy was wonderful about communicating with me in the weeks leading up to the party. They came early and set up quickly. They were very accomodating to all my requests. Then they mixed up some delicious margaritas served with a big smile-delicious cheese quesadillas, and then the tacos! They had 3 kinds of meet, all of which were delicious! The beans were fabulous, and I was told they were made with herbs instead of grease. They stayed for hours, let us know when it was last call for food, and cleaned up and left leaving not a trace behind except delicious food. Tu Tacos catered my reunion for about 175 people a few weekends ago and it was a great success. I booked them about a year ago and had frequent conversations via email and phone. Very clear communications, and I got exactly what I was promised. They set up 2 carts to handle the quantity of people, and that kept the line short. We got the basics which included a lot, they also offer a lot of options making them the only ones you need to call. Lots of salsas and sides, and the aguas frescas were a hit because it was HOT! The food was great, I got to have seconds and everyone that I talked to loved the food and got enough.They showed up early and were completely set before the party started, and cleaned up without a problem.
