The food is good but their prices have gone up considerably since we were here last. No prices on…read morethe menu so we went ahead and ordered. $80 for 3 lunches is ridiculous for basically chicken and rice plus there is no seating besides picnic benches.... The wind kicked up so we had to ask Subway next door if we could come in and eat. They did offer half orders, if the prices were on the menu we definitely would have done that.

Horrible Customer Service Experience directly from owner; Never visiting again:…read more I have been picking up dinner from Ekahi Grill in Gypsum about every month or two for about two years now. The food has always been good, the cashier at the front has been very friendly, and I enjoy supporting local businesses. For those reasons, I am very dissapointed to share that this business lacks any integrity and does not value its customers. On February 4th, I ordered online as typical. I ordered a full plate and a half plate. I arrived at the pick up window. The cashier came over with my order: Holding the full plate in a styrofoam container on the bottom, with the a plastic container for the half plate on top and no bag. As the cashier handed it over the window, and I grabbed the styrofoam container on the bottom by both sides, the stryofoam container immediately collapsed inwards and one of the fish sticks in the plate fell out. The cashier applogized and got tape to tape the top shut. He said do you need anything else and I picked up the fish stick from the ground to hand it to him for the trash. Then, I said asked if he could remake the fish stick and said I could come back in a few minutes to get it. He said to hold on and went and talked to somebody in the back, who I then learned was the Owner (I believe her name was Asia, or similar). He said that she said they would remake it, but I would have to pay $2 for the 'extra' fish stick. I explained that they handed me a defective, unproperly packed box and the fish stick fell out because the box was broken. Not after I left, but while I was being handed the food at the counter. He went and talked to her again and that the owner understands, but I still need to pay for the fish stick. I asked to speak to the Owner and was told no, she would not speak with me. I then said that I will be leaving a poor review and never coming back. (and left without the fish stick) For context, these are large fish sticks and four came with the food, so I lost 25% of the main part of the meal. Long story short, I would never reccomend anyone visits this restaurant.

We poked around the store a bit and it definitely gave the feeling of not being in the valley anymore. Ultimately we came to eat though and so you go to the back and it's a very cafeteria feeling eatery back there. The ceilings are high, there are chairs and tables and extra inventory everywhere. Based on the menu, we ordered tacos, but they also had tortas, burritos and even off-menu menudo (next time). We got some drinks and ordered our tacos. They came out reasonably quickly and we're just absolutely loaded with meat. Almost like they had been punched out of a larger taco with a cookie cutter. I ordered the carne asada and chicharrone tacos while my wife got pastor and carne asada. I'd definitely be down to try all the other offerings. This meal was a great surprise. I'll definitely be coming back here again and again.

Order first, grab a soda from the many refrigerators on the wall and wait for your food. They'll stick your tray on the counter but don't call out that it is ready so if it's busy keep your eyes open. We ordered four kinds of tacos: Carne asada (steak) - it was tender enough and well cooked but seriously lacking in flavor compared to the others that we tasted. Chicken - decent tender chicken shreds albeit a bit plain. Chicharron - small pieces of crispy pork rind that right before serving in the tacos are tossed in a spicy tomato sauce. Very good but you have to eat this one instantly when served otherwise the crispy pork rind starts to get mushy and chewy. Very delicious sauce! Pork al Pastor - Seriously the best of the four. Normally al pastor are made with the pork cooked in layers on a vertical split and served with some pineapple. Since this isn't a very busy place they don't do the volume required for having that kind of spit and they cook marinated chunks of pork on the grill. The marinade was very flavorful and strong and I would order these again the next time we are in the area and decide to eat here. One of the folks in our group had the multiple meat hamburger. It had a beef patty, some baloney like meat, a grilled piece of ham, a split hotdog, and bacon! They have lots of Hispanic and Mexican soft drinks as well as Pepsi products but very little in terms of low calorie drinks. Just Diet Pepsi and then three or four versions of flavored, unsweetened waters like Topo Chico. A very good value relative to the ski town where we are staying.

For years is has been the only food option here (though they've recently opened two other bars in the airport -- Townie's and something else that was closed at 10a on a Saturday -- which is exactly when I like to get wasted, so I was confused that I was shut out of enjoying its bounty) -- and although Alpenglo no longer only serves hot dogs of dubious provenance, it doesn't mean that it's gotten much better. Basically, this is a long way of saying that don't come here hungry -- though the breakie sandwiches are edible (okay bagels, passable eggs) -- most of the salads/sandos involve something that would be most at home in a high school cafeteria tray, rather than in my tum. Prices are not shabby -- small coffee is $2.25, muffins are around $3, I think sandwiches are around $8 -- but I will say, if I was trapped here in a snow storm, it would be a long day of hanger -- though I guess if you're fine w/ meager wraps (turkey, cheese, mayo, tomato) and a "Southwestern salad" (tortilla chips, chicken breast, romaine, salsa), it's not so bad. I will just judge you.
