Tsuchiya Ramen totally gave me Initial D, street car racing vibes w/ its actual, real-life (idk if it was intentional or not lol) car meet outside in the parking lot, Japanese decor inside and car memorabilia displayed throughout. It was quite an interesting industrial, unfinished aesthetic. Definitely nostalgic and made me miss my fixed up white Acura Integra..ala 2001. Yea..I'm a girl and yea I use to race. ;) Such a good pit stop on our family's Spring Break road trip to Yosemite. It definitely refueled us for the rest of our journey. Known for its customizable ramen bowls with flavorful broths and a wide variety of toppings, as well as, other menu items like rice bowls, bentos, and dumplings, Tsuchiya Ramen definitely lived up to it's almost 5 star Yelp reviews. The waitress was friendly and the food came out fairly quickly once our order was taken ~ less than 10 mins for sure! I ordered the spicy miso ramen ($17.99) with a sweet corn side (+$1.50) and complimentary topping of the fried garlic. The hakata (thin style noodles) were perfectly cooked, with a lil al dente bit to them. It had all the trimmings that I like ~ green onion, chashu, jammy egg, crunchy wood ear mushrooms, naruto fish cake, marinated bamboo, and nori. The broth was authentic, flavored with such depth. You can really taste the slow-cooked, miso quality in it. I loved the fried garlicky taste too! It was the right level of spice, I didn't even need to add any chili oil, like I usually do. My picky daughter opt'd for the "make your own ramen" option (starting at $12.99) ~ getting the same hakata thin noodle with tonkatsu broth, chashu (+$3.25), fried tofu (+$2.50), and freebie toppings of nori, sesame seeds & fried garlic. My son ordered the OG tonkatsu ramen w/ extra marinated bamboo (+$2) on the side. Lastly, the hubs wanted to eat lighter & healthier, so he opt'd for the teriyaki chicken rice bowl. The establishment was quite interesting. It had some car racing Japanese decor, but also more subtle Japanese decor all around the restaurant. We were greeted immediately upon entering and seated, and we decided to try one of everything on the menu. We ordered fried rice, Ramen, Bento box, and we all got to try a little bit of it. It basically came up to $100 with a tip so it was like $20 per person, which is pretty average for a sit down restaurant nowadays. The food was top-notch, very delicious. I may have stopped in at an unfortunate time for the restaurant. There was only one front of house worker on a Sunday afternoon. She served as the hostess, busser,server, and runner. For this, she deserves five stars as she was simply doing the best she could. Unfortunately for the restaurant, this is the cause of their three star grade. The wait time to be seated was over 10minutes for a party of one. Then I had to wait another 15 minutes to have my order taken and I finally had to get up to get the attention of the lonely worker to pay. The filthy restroom was a reminder why it is important to have another worker present during business hours, especially on a Sunday. The Ramen was very good and perhaps the only redeeming quality this restaurant has. It was flavorful and exactly what you'd want to warm your belly on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Was craving ramen and this beautiful place was recommended. There's plenty of seating inside, which was also very clean. We came in pretty late at about 8:25pm. We were seated promptly, orders were taken and water was brought to us. It did not take long for appetizers to start coming out, which is very surprisingly convenient since they close at 9 PM. The takoyaki came out first and I loved it. My husband enjoyed his green onion pancakes, and the soft shell crab was amazing just a little on the salty side, but it was perfectly fried and crispy. The decor is really cool , the main entrance is normal booth seating and the second room looks like a traditional Japanese Ramen restaurant in Japan. It has a lot of Japanese car and drift memorabilia. Tsuchiya is known for as the father of drifting or "Drift King". There is even a Watanabe wheel on display. We ordered the House Ramen which has bone broth , bamboo , green onions, chashu and thin noodles. The ramen was delicious. We also ordered the Karage (fried chicken) it was fried but not greasy .
