Trumpet Vine Catering (TVC) is the best (wedding) catering provider in the SLO / Paso area, and we are so appreciative of Sara and her team for the amazing job they did at our wedding on November 5th! We had the opportunity to do a tasting pre-contract, which I would highly recommend! Tasting the dishes we were thinking of having for our wedding was a leading factor to securing their services. The top 3 reasons why I would hire TVC for catering any event is: communication, flavor, and experience. Sara is a rockstar and we would not have had such a spectacular wedding if it wasn't for her. She goes out of her way to keep the couple informed, responds almost immediately to any and all questions/requests, and is just a wonderful person to be around! From quoting to executing the onsite catering, she is there every step of the way and knows all the important details. For our wedding we selected the below items: Passed apps: ahi poke tacos, mini arancini balls with tomato bisque, and pulled pork cornbread cakes. Given that we were having an outdoor wedding in November, we wanted to have something warm for our guests. Sara provided the creative idea to mix their fabulous arancini balls with a warm soup. It was a huge hit! Salad: Pear salad fit the fall theme perfectly! Mains: Syrah braised short rib and chicken piccata. Both were delicious (short rib was more popular) and we decided to serve family style instead of plated or buffet. This was a great option for us as our guests were able to converse and pass plates around. Food came out hot, which was a critical care about for us! Sides: Potato leek gratin and charred broccolini. The gratin is one of the best potato dishes I've ever tasted. I seriously wish I had this recipe! If I were to change one item, it would have been to sub in something more popular for the charred broccolini. In addition to the great food, TVC provided pie cutting, a water station, and tableside wine services. I am so upset because I was extremely excited to book this company for my wedding I had been talking to the owner since January, came up with an entire menu that I am supposed to try next week (planned a whole trip around coming to try it) had a tasting date set, I wrote her now to confirm the tasting and she tells me they are actually booked for my wedding day and another staff member booked the other wedding and didn't tell her.... Mind you we've been talking for 5 months and you didn't realize this? If I didn't reach out I wouldn't have known. How do you have that bad of communication for something like this to happen?! Completely unprofessional. They totally set me back and wasted my time. Work on your organization and communication! Probably a blessing they aren't doing my wedding!!! Trumpet Vine catered our wedding in June! Erica was very pleasant to work with and super helpful throughout the process. Our original caterer backed out due to covid so Trumpet Vine even created a similar menu for us so we wouldn't have to change everything. We didn't do a food tasting since traveling during covid was tricky but it didn't matter because the food is amazing! All our guests loved it. They were also awesome in making sure we had enough food (and wine!) during the event since we were running around the whole time. We didn't get to go to the beginning of the cocktail hour since we were taking photos so they put together a mini cheese board just for us so we wouldn't miss out! Choosing the perfect catering company for our wedding was very important to us and, looking back, Trumpet Vine Catering was one of the best decisions we made in preparation for our special day! Jenny and her amazing team were so diligent in achieving perfection, from the custom made menu (with multiple revisions leading up to the day) to guiding us on rental quantities and necessities. We were just married on the beach in Cayucos, CA and hired Trumpet Vine to cater our our wedding. There is so much to say here, but... FIRST, the food was wonderful! We got so many compliments on the food from our guests. Trumpet Vine catered our daughter's wedding with 200 guests on a ranch in the Central Coast on a rainy day. I will start off by saying that if you are looking for a caterer in that area, look no further. Seriously, just save your time and energy! To begin with, Jennie and Gayle are professional all the way, return phone calls, and they came through with any request we made. Ours was a venue where they had to bring in everything, which meant they built a kitchen onsite (and, did I mention in the rain?). Mary was amazing managing onsite -- our dinner was in a barn, and there was not a lot of room for table service, but their servers somehow managed it, and they were friendly and accommodating and right there when you needed something. We had a plated surf and turf dinner. Filet mignon and red snapper. They did not disappoint. The meal was just as delicious and served hot as it was at our tasting -- something that, in our experience, does not always happen. We had a few guests who requested all fish, rather than the duo. We were surprised and delighted when our guests told us that they were served a fish duo of snapper and salmon, rather than simply a double portion of snapper. Also, they knew exactly where that guest was sitting and knew their name. So many guests came up to us and told how impressed they were with the food quality and service. We felt that Trumpet Vine went out of their way to make sure we had exactly what we wanted. We have worked with many caterers, and have organized many events for large groups, and truly mean it when we give Trumpet Vine the very highest recommendation we possibly can! Had an absolute amazing experience with Trumpet. Erica was especially helpful leading up to our wedding day. They were very responsive in the back and forth regarding the menu, and made quick suggestions and updates based on our likes/needs. Trumpet Vine (notably Sara) was the only caterer to be very responsive and get us a reasonable proposal based on our personal tastes. Another top vendor didn't even get back to us for 6 weeks. Food is important for a wedding that is across the country. I've been to weddings I traveled for and the food was bad enough to make a beautiful wedding seem blah. I did not want that to be our guests' experience. Let me tell you, the food was 100% the best food we've had in Paso, period. It was sooooo good! I'm a pasta girl so one of our dishes was a chicken pasta that was to die for. We also had a salmon that was out of this world and everyone said the steak we had was so tender, it could be cut with a fork. This is a review for Trumpet Vine's service, because you can't be in the service industry and treat your clients like they "owe" you or speak to them like they are trash. We pay for a service, you deliver it. It should be simple. I am not paying thousands of dollars to flatter you, I am paying in exchange for professionalism and catering services. Trumpet Vine is accustomed to a clientele that does not blink when handing over their credit cards and it shows in the offense they take when their pricing is questioned or when their contract and policies are scrutinized. They have no sympathy for brides who are on a budget and are trying to have a beautiful, but still affordable, wedding. I had initially contacted them a year before my wedding date and they had taken some time to get back to me. We took a while to get a menu solidified, and drove up for a tasting a couple months later. I loved Gayle, who was my primary contact and who welcomed us. The food was delicious. The spread was wonderful. We were very happy, HOWEVER, when we started to talk about the details of the contract, that's when things got awkward. I had a list of questions from my coordinator of what I should ask, and asked Gayle to make some adjustments to the contract. Mostly just details of what we spoke about. Jennie, the head chef, poked her head in and said that they had worked at our venue hundreds of times and that I didn't need to worry and that they knew what they were doing. I politely insisted that I would still like things on paper. She then brusquely reminded us that we had a deposit to pay and that we had to pay it before we left. That was so unpleasant for me because we had just enjoyed a beautiful meal and the chef comes in to berate us for the check? Gayle was very sweet and tried to cover up the rudeness of her colleague but by then the damage had been done. After I paid the $1000 deposit, it was ghost town. The correspondences I had tried to start up with TVC were futile. No one was responding to me, and when they did respond, it was weeks later. Also, I don't understand why TVC handles rentals. They must have a deal with All About Events because it just made the entire process confusing, complicated, and a major headache. I received a rentals quote from Gayle, but I had no idea which item was for what reason. The numbers were all over the place and so haphazard. My coordinator and I spent so much time in the labyrinth that was the rentals invoice trying to figure out WHY and FOR WHAT? I wanted to know exactly what I was paying for -- this is normal. What is not normal is the hassle it took to figure that out! Finally, a month before my wedding, no one had reached out to confirm with me the final menu or the timeline for the day. I was sending emails to Gayle, but for some reason, Jennie was responding. What had happened to Gayle? I took the initiative to reach out to them, and after I had sent in the final payment, there was another invoice sent to my coordinator 3 days before my wedding, even though I was the one handling payments and menu since the beginning! So disorganized! When I voiced that I had sent a FINAL payment for a FINAL invoice and refused to pay extra for their oversight, Jennie threw a FIT and threatened to send collections to collect their money, sent me emails insulting me and my coordinator, and pretty much treated me like I was dirt. She made the claim that they were the only reason my wedding was a success and we were ungrateful and unappreciative. This brought me to tears because it's not true, and I've been a catering server before so I know how hard it is. Every person that we passed that was a part of TVC on the day of our wedding, we said "thank you." We are appreciative, and we are also in the food industry, so we know how difficult it can be, however ... I can't believe that they would speak to a paying client the way that they did, and even though we were very happy with the catering and the service the day of the wedding, I cannot stand behind the way they treated us afterward. The way you leave a person is the most lasting impression that they will have of you. I would not recommend TVC to any bride. read more
