I have opened an account with Wells Fargo (in Foley) for the purpose of depositing a larger amount…read moreof money coming from an estate. I was told to deposit $500.00 to avoid paying bank fees. I told the clerk and the manager that I would be depositing a large amount of money after it gets transferred from another bank. My transfer of money was delayed by several months. Later on, the rules changed, and the bank began withdrawing fees from my account. Then I received a letter stating that my account was dormant because I had not made any "qualifying transactions." They wrote that once an account is dormant, according to state law, Wells Fargo must transfer the account funds to the state, and if this happens, I would need to file a claim with the state to recover my account funds. In other words, they encouraged me to go somewhere else. I have many accounts with other banks, some of them for over 30 years, and they have never become "dormant." Part of my estate money arrived, and I deposited it with another bank. I certainly don't need a Wells Fargo account; there are many banks that are gladly taking my deposits.

When purchasing and seeking a bridge loan for my vacation property I was recommended to Barbara…read moreWard at United Bank by my realtor Ms. Ward was very professional, informative and we asked her to facilitate the loan for that property. She was able to assist us throughout the process and did a very good job making everything flow smoothly and we were able to close quickly without issue. The ink wasn't barely dry on our loan documents before they sold it to this skeevy company that has a zillion complaints and is best known for their devious practices and wrongful foreclosures. Seriously!! The good news is that is was only a bridge loan and we were able to pay it off before the first payment was due. However with the horrible track record of that mortgage company I am not happy about having my loan sold off to an organization with such shady practices and was surprised that a local bank with 120+ year history and a good reputation would make this kind of transaction a practice of their business model . Bottom line: As they say, buyer beware, and this was the first time this happened to us but only a few years later in the same situation we had another mortgage company do the very same thing to us. We were actually promised that they would not sell that bridge loan to this sleezy company but that is exactly what they did, we paid that off quickly too. So now I think maybe the say "buyer beware in writing".
