**My location states New York, NY but I am in Massapequa Park** I had always fertilized, seeded, limed and otherwise maintained the lawn on my own, but several years ago I began using Scott's lawn service for treatments. I was very happy with the service and results, and I felt that the professional evaluation of my lawn on a regular basis was well worth the cost. That however all changed a few years ago when they merged with and became TruGreen Lawn Care. Prior to the merge the Scott's techs would routinely walk the property to see how they were doing and adjust the feedings & treatments accordingly. After becoming TruGreen it was as if there was a race to finish the job as fast as possible as opposed to ensuring the quality of the service provided. One morning I heard the truck pull up so I began to get dressed. Within two minutes (literally) the tech was back in the truck driving away and there was a bill in the mailbox. I reviewed the surveillance footage to see if anything was done or if he just dropped off a bill and saw him essentially powerwalking the lawn with a back pack sprayer hastily waiving the nozzle around, clearly not giving an even or thorough application. Truthfully I wouldn't care how little time they spent if the lawn was lush and looked healthy, but despite paying for every service they recommended and setting the irrigation system to water at the suggested intervals and levels, the lawn was mostly brown and had several bare patches. We finished out the contract year and informed them that we would not be renewing. Naturally once we cancelled a manager called asking why we cancelled and asked to give them another chance, but I politely informed them of the issues that I had and my decision to again do the treatments myself. They again called, this time speaking with my wife and she told them the same. A few weeks later they called again and she told them to stop calling, yet they continue calling. This morning I received yet another call from them which is what finally prompted me to write this review. Bottom line, TruGreen is expensive, the results are less than mediocre, and they are as annoying as a crazy ex-girlfriend who won't take "NO" for an answer. I had a perfectly green lawn until these amateur morons came. First off their mosquito guy lied about coming in my backyard and spraying then proceeded to bill me full price. I had to fight with customer service and it took them almost 2 weeks to come respray. My first lawn care treatment went ok but the second one omg you can see the pictures. I spent $600 on topsoil and reseeding this year and now they ruined it. I have no choice I'm going to have to take them to court to get my money back this is insane. read more

I recently has an insect treatment performed and the Trugreen rep sprayed the yellowish liquid all over my doors, windows and the siding around each. The chemical has stained my white storm door, every white siding surface it touched, and I CAN'T GET IT OFF. bleach, magic erasures, it's still there. The photos are AFTER i have tried removing it. i have made no less than 6 phone calls to the main number, who keep referring me to the local office manager. (who you can't call directly, btw). The manager FINALLY came out last week to look at the damage, and he kept saying, "we've never had this issue with any other customers", as if to insinuate that this is a problem "I" am creating. It has been WEEKS since the damage, and still no answers. Next step is better business bureau and if need be small claims court. read more

Long story short, my back lawn was half dead by the time they came, i got a different company and had to spend $1,000 to have the backyard aerated and reseeded. Would not recommend them! read more

Hired trugreen about two years ago after installing an irrigation system. That first year there was little improvement in the lawn but that wasn't their fault, these things take time. I had to watch them. There were times when the techs cut corners but, if I called to complain they corrected the issue to my satisfaction. This spring and early summer I was more Than pleased. Never had my lawn looked this good!!! It was a source of pride to me and, since my property is on a corner visible to two streets, it improved my curb appeal. This makes what happened next a bitter pill to swallow ( when a nasty, ugly partner leaves you you get upset but when you loose a beautiful, funny, interesting partner you are heartbroken) I got a treatment. After a couple of days I noticed brown areas in my lawn. These got worse. You could discern where the spreader stopped or turned or went over a bump. My lawn was being burnt. I immediately began watering like mad in an attempt to mitigate the damage probably at great cost but things got worse. I made a few calls till ,finally, they sent someone to check. Now, in the interest of brevity, I'll fast forward. They sent some one who thatched, no racking, aerated and reseeded lawn. I knew this wouldn't work in July and I knew the residual feed was on the lawn but I watered like mad in hopes of success. My lawn is ruined. I canceled service, at least four times. They still notify me of upcoming service and I have to cancel all over again. I'm awaiting a refund since I pay by the year. They say I will get it but it doesn't come. I threatened that should a lawn service provider appear on my property I will call the police and report them for trespassing!!! I still use them for mosquito control but only till my contract runs out. Before you call them ask yourself a question. If I lost my weedy, patchy, buggy old grass would I feel bad ? WORST COMPANY! The sales associate lied to me about what I was getting covered just to get me to sign up. I paid up front and now I'm getting charged another $200. This company is a complete scam. They won't return my calls and customer service keeps saying that the branch has to handle it and they'll call. During my treatments, I had to call multiple times for them to keep coming back for mosquito and weed control because I wouldn't see an improvement. Half the time they come, they say they can't even do things and then when I speak to customer service, I'm told the technician that came lied. They just constantly blame each other and no one takes responsibility. I am planning on reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. SOMEONE NEEDS TO CALL ME BACK AND REFUND THE EXTRA CHARGES!! **Update**... I finally get a call from local manager Anna. (Weeks later) The poor customer service just continues. The absolute worst lawn care company. they destroyed my lawn and killed my bushes. Their customer service is just a call center and there is no actual management. They promise to come look and it has been two months haven't shown up as promised. My front lawn has brown spots everywhere, is covered in weeds and my bushes have turned brown. I called to complain, and the company had the nerve to blame it on a computer issue, stating that the square footage on my property was wrong. So... the guy came and sprayed my front landscaping and left. Three weeks and a dozen calls later, my lawn has still not been serviced. AVOID this company. There are better options. I live in Huntington Station. I just gave 5 stars based on what I am seeing. My neighbor directly across the street after struggling with a thin, brown and yellow looking lawn since they moved in a year ago just hired TruGreen at the end of August and their lawn is the best-looking lawn of 24 homes on our street. It is a deep Emerald green, thick and lush looking. I was so surprised I just went online to explore the company to find out their pricing as I am thinking of hiring them next season. I haven't spoken with my neighbors but I cannot imagine they are unhappy with the transformation of their lawn. I just know what I am seeing out my picture window. It is literally night and day. I know something about lawncare having been a DIYer for years to save money. Although my lawn is I would say a 6 or 7 of 10, I didn't know how much better it could look until I started seeing my neighbor's lawn change. Their lawn is a 10 right now. Without knowing which specific care package they selected (I am going to ask them) it looks to me like they had aeration, fertilization and overseeding in August which is essentially what I believe to be the last window for lawns this season before winter and lawns do dormant. I am envious. They now have a great start to next season. I will continue to observe their lawn starting next Spring and Summer during the challenging months of high heat but I am tempted to start their service. This is an honest review. I don't often write reviews but I think this one is necessary.I have been with tru green since they took over Scott's lawn care. What a shame to ruin a good reputation. Since I have had the service if I DIDN'T STAY ON TOP OF EVERY VISIT AND GO OUT TO SEE WHAT WAS DONE I WOULD HAVE NO LAWN AT ALL.I think part of the problem is that they don't have the same service personnel that scott's had.They just don't seem to care and they don't spend much time on an application.They spend more time in the truck than on my lawn. Bad service for sure!!! They also have a Big Big customer service problem. They are usually rude individuals who don't seem to care what your problem is or make any suggestions as to correcting the problem you are having.Don't waste your hard earned money or your time. I cancelled the service last month after instead of charging me the 28 dollars for the Pay as you go service they instead charged me 583 dollars. Today they came and did first application anyway, no notification no email no call, and then had the audacity to forge my initials on the contract. I had to call and recancel eventough it showed in their system that I called on the 28th and cancelled already. It's a shame this location in Yapank is filled with ineptitude, because if they did things the correct way I would probably still be a customer. If you want to feel like you're in some punked show, than sign on. I wish I read these reviews before we joined their service. We decided to try them out since my brother had a good experience with Scott's... which they were... and the company doing my service was too expensive and takes off for six weeks in August leaving me with a mess to fix. We signed up and had an experience getting a consistent price since the first time we got a quote they didn't enter it into the system. We didn't get the same price but decided to go with it anyway, beside some of natures warning signs on a disorganized organization. They said expect to receive a welcome kit and send the attestation as soon as possible, so they can begin applying weed and insect control which we're getting hit with (did I mentioned my last guy disappears for the summer?) big time. Two weeks later and still no kit. I called and expressed my urgency since we're chickweed central. They emailed me an electronic version and I sent it back on April 2 and asked for a confirmation. Nothing. Finally April 11, I asked what was going on. They told me they just received the electronic E sign. The mail would've taken two days. They also said they were coming today, miraculously. Later that day, my wife hears a truck and figures great they're here! Hallelujah! She hears the tech ring the bell and proceeds to go answer the door. The guy was gone immediately and had spent a total of 9 minutes, which was supposed to include his preliminary review and evaluation of our lawn. This in 9 MINUTES! We read his review and find out that since we never sent our contract that all he did was apply fertilizer. We called and threatened to end the contract and they pleaded and said they would send a tech to apply the necessary products that day or the next. Four days later, my wife calls to cancel and again a plea to stay with discounts on our three first services. Again, 4 days later they called finally today and asked why we were requesting a discount and that they can not apply weed kill for another ten days, even though the tech clearly said he didn't apply it. The salespeople have duped us yet again. Husband canceled last year - and they continued to apply treatment after the fact- apparently that was in dispute. Then somehow they came to treat our lawn with pesticide treatment this morning WITHOUT FULL informed CONSENT - even though we have no contract!! My lawn is loaded with weeds and I call them constantly to service my lawn they eventually schedule then NEVER show up to do the job. After purchasing and moving into a new residence, I had contracted with Trugreen to provide lawn service as I had an out control weed problem. I tried for almost a year to tame it myself with Scott's products from local stores, but experienced less than stellar results. I decided it was time to hire a professional company that could apply professional-grade chemicals and provide service on the most optimal dates. And now, lets get into it. I have discreetly mounted cameras on my property and found that Trugreen was not fully completing their applications and lawn service as per our contract. After discovering that Trugreen didn't aerate and overseed a small portion of my property, I had called Trugreen back to see if they could have the technician return to complete the job; i was told that he would be returning by the end of the day. After the technician didn't return that day or following business day, I called Trugreen and was told that they would be returning by the end of the week at the latest. Trugreen showed up 2 days later, but my camera system revealed that the technician was there for less than 4 minutes total, sprayed a small of amount of chemicals, hopped back into his truck and left; the technician never went into my backyard or left any paperwork documenting what work was performed like they normally do. Because I thought he was initially there to complete the aeration job that was not fully completed the week before, I made another phone call to Trugreen was made and I was told that the technician was their for a different service, but had left since my lawn was only seeded less than a week before and that the tech left because he could do more harm than good. I then inquired to the customer service rep as to why they incorrectly scheduled a service, knowing that they were there only last week, and they were dumbfounded. The whole purpose of me contracting with Trugreen was so that they could PROFESSIONALLY bring my lawn back to life and have an exact time-frame of when to apply certain chemicals. I had also asked the customer service rep if Trugreen was still returning by the end of the week to finish aerating and over-seeding the portion of property they missed and was told they would be returning in another 2 weeks. Because I was initially told that they would be returning the same day to finish a portion of property they missed and then pushing me back to over 3 weeks later and out of the optimal dates for apply grass seed, I cancelled my service with Trugreen. I received a phone call the next day for another customer service rep trying to retain me as a customer. She was very professional and courteous and asked if I would like to have the branch supervisor come out to my property and/or see if she could have a technician come out sooner to compete the aeration and seeding job that was not finished, but I politely declined on both. We came to an agreement that I would be partially refunded on the aeration/seeding since the job was fully completed. She also reaffirmed that my contract was fully cancelled and that I would be receiving no more service from Trugreen. BUT IT GETS BETTER! The following week, AFTER ALREADY CANCELLING MY CONTRACT AND HAVING IT CONFIRMED TWICE THAT IT WAS CANCELLED, I found out that Trugreen was at my property and aerated and over-seeded the front of my property, including the portion that was previously missed. So now I made an additional phone call and inquired as to why Trugreen was performing a lawn service on my property when my contract was cancelled; the customer service rep, who again was very professional, was dumbfounded and had no explanation as to why Trugreen was performing work on my property without any type of authorization or contract to do so; they essentially TRESPASSED onto my property. I was told that there was no scheduled appointment in their system. I also had to confirm with them that I would not be charged for that service or else I would have to go down other avenues since they had no work authorization anyway. All in all, my contract with Trugreen lasted 2 months. If it wasn't for me taking the time to notice and follow-up on their work, I would of been getting charged blindly for half-assed services. I am a very dissatisfied customer and hope that this review will make current customers take more notice in what Trugreen is actually doing when they are on their property. read more

CNY TruGreen Is The Worst. Zero Stars. In East Syracuse, I called Customer Service and Brian & Brandon, the CNY service managers, and asked for them to call me and to have someone to come to my home to figure out how to improve our lawn. They never returned a single message after calling 10 times. Never available and never sent anyone as asked. We've had TruGreen for 2 years and we have crabgrass and other issues in various parts of the lawn. The service tech admitted he had no idea how to fix it or why the product wasn't working. I asked him to call to get some help and he promised his manager Brandon would call me right back (in minutes.) NEVER HAPPENED. These clowns do not care. Relentless sales calls trying to upsell you additional services. They do not take no for an answer. Even after you have clearly told them NO, and they agree to stop calling, you keep getting the calls. And this is as a good paying customer. God forbid you go past the due date with your bill, they will call you multiple times a day. It's too many incoming calls to have to deal with during a workday, and on weekends, its just not worth it. Find another company that will do the service you've paid for, and leave you alone if you don't want to buy anything else. The service itself was ineffective in killing weeds. Either what they use doesnt work, or they just are not doing the service. This season we switched to a different turf company and now the yard looks the way it's supposed to, no comparison to last season. read more

What a bad decision...this season was worse than the first. Trugreen should be paying me a salary for all of the phone calls I have had to make to ensure that they do their jobs.
