If you want to pay good $$ for absolutely nothing, Trugreen is right for you. I had them for over 5 years and my lawn got worse and worse, and I'm not one demanding perfection by any means. My lawn developed bare patches after a year or 2. I put down topsoil as they recommended, and watered more than I'm allowed by ordinances. Things somehow continued to worsen. So, eventually I called them asking to only apply spring fertilization and winterization. 1st person said this wasn't an option, so I asked to cancel. Got a call back saying that was a mistake, and they would be able to accommodate my request. This was in August 2025. They didn't show for winterization, and then I got a mailing asking me to please become a customer again. I didn't know I wasn't before that communicae. I decided to handle it myself. I wanted to farm this out, but I got no benefit from Trugreen. I again applied topsoil to bare patches and fertilized with Scott's Weed and Feed. I still water religiously and my lawn is already far greener, and thicker overall. The bare patches have been covered by grass by about 75%. This is from late March 2026 to date, late May 2026. Honest to the good Lord, I didn't get anything positive by hiring them, and they somehow fired me as a customer. CANNING ME ACTUALLY WAS A POSITIVE, SO I GUESS THEY DID SOMETHING RIGHT AFTER ALL. In all my 50 years, never have I ever paid so much to get such negative results in return. My sons have had a far better ROI using various claw machines, hoping for Mario plushies. ********Update********* Out of morbid curiosity, I contacted the email below. Apparently, they have a guarantee! However, since I requested to reduce to 2 applications per year, it doesn't apply to me. That, and the fact it's been so long since they fired me. Had I been eligible for the guarantee, they would have applied more grass killer at no charge. Protip Trugreen: Don't advise an angry, former customer of a lame guarantee for which he doesn't qualify. What was the point of that? I wasn't pissed off enough for ya? I have used Truegreen lawn service since last year. This year, I disconnected it. My front and backyard lawns are almost dead. After I filed a complaint, they just offered me a discount instead of fixing the problem. I demanded a refund for last month's payment. The customer service agent LIED to me that the company tried to refund me, but my bank did not accept it. Finally, they refused to make a refund. It is disgusting that TrueGreen customer service agents lie to customers. I am really disappointed with this dishonest practice, and I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

I just canceled after having them no show up twice for scheduled weed control. They did once on a day that is rained very very hard and days thereafter. I complained about this and they called saying I can reschedule this. I did, twice, and both times they never showed up. They advertise coming in-between the scheduled treatments, but that is hype! I will tackle my lawn myself. I did it at my last property and got great results. I did use Nextgreen for awhile at my last property and had great results. So, did other people I know. They are not in our area any longer. I called to cancel last week, and they said they will definitely get someone out by today. I called today, not seeing any scheduled notice on my app, and the lady on the phone had no clue that it was scheduled. I told her I am done and will treat the lawn myself better than they can do. Nothing new that hasn't been said already. Every appointment = No notification they were coming - Only serviced front lawn - Lied and said service completed - called and complained - Said they would reschedule - same thing or they just canceled. Final straw was today. They did call yesterday to say they would be coming today. Even got a text that my tech was on his way... gates unlocked... so excited! William Vidra was our specialist today. It was very early, but he tapped on the door. When my husband answered, he proceeded to explain what the treatment was that He was applying to the yard. He further explained How to take care of things because of the heat. He was very polite and professional. I will say he was one of the top specialist that we have had. After a season of service there was no an appreciable improvement in my yard. I called to find out when the aeration service was and they had said I cancelled it and tried to sell it back at over 100$ more. The tech was not friendly or knowledgeable, just a human chemical spreader and that's it. read more

Completely incompetent company, specifically the Danbury franchise. I hired them 3 years ago when I moved to CT and planted lots of new grass. I asked them not to apply preemergent, and even told the driver not to apply it, but he did anyway because he didn't speak English. They promised to come by and do something to compensate me, but never did. The next year they didn't put down the preemergent, and when I called and asked why, they said oops, they had notes from the previous year to not apply it, and now it is too late because they only have it mixed with fertilizer and they already applied the fertilizer. This year I pre-paid for the season, and they didn't show up. When I called they said oops, somehow we cancelled your service, but we can come next week when it is already too late to apply. I got a full refund and will hire someone else. You can only speak to customer service, you can never speak to anyone in the Danbury office. read more

Truly would give them 0 stars if I could. We hired them after they assured us they could revive a portion of our lawn that had died. The first two treatments were just fertilizer. What we really need is aeration and seeding, but we were told it was too early. So we continue to call back and request aeration and seeing and are constantly told that they will "get back to us" which they never do. Then, we call again and they tell us they only do aeration and seeding in the fall. This does not make any sense because their employees just told us we need it. So then we have another employee come out and he confirms again that we need aeration and seeding and we have to call and schedule. When we call yet another time, we are told they stopped doing seeding 2 weeks ago and we missed our chance. So what are we paying for?!?! For them to fertilize a dead lawn?!?! First, Trugreen has NO local service people to communicate with. All communications are via the Trugreen app or the Trugreen website or a call center located somewhere on planet Earth. Only the person that comes to the property to spray the Trugreen magic juice on the yard is a live human to speak with (after the sales person is long gone). Second, the magic juice did NOTHING positive for my lawn. After more than a year of Trugreen applications and well over $1,000 my yard looks dead. At this point, I have canceled the Trugreen service. I bought two bags of Scotts Turf Builder (one bag on the front, one bag on the back) at a cost of $60 total and my yard has never looked better. I didn't hire Trugreen, But my neighbor did. They sprayed her yard with weed killer, and got some on my 6 foot tall ice cream banana tree's leaves... It killed my 11 banana tree's that I have been growing for years. After consulting them about this, for 3 months after they said that they would replace them, a Rude manager said that they aren't going to because I had no video showing them spraying my tree's. So if you see a Trugreen at your neighbors house... Make sure that you video them spraying neighbors yard and not yours! read more

I went there again recently and I met a young man named Mark I believe (new employee) and he's been the best that ever worked there, his attentiveness, clean, very polite and respectful, friendly and helpful and he smiled the entire time he helped me. SLOPPY AND FAST I hired them for irrigation, fertilizer and seeding. I never saw a job done so fast - less than 15 minutes. And I have a corner fairly large property. No care or customization- we were told they would assess the lawn for further treatments on the initial visit. That was an overpromise. Wham bam and seeds were down, including on my pavers. I now have grass growing in the pavers. Needless to say we terminated our service. I now have to get this cleaned out before the pavers look better than my lawn. read more

Now I have brown spots all over my yard From the chemicals. I made Several complaints And a week later a Manager said he came to my house while I was at work rather than making an appointment to to meet with me to discuss the problem. I have about an acre and one half of lawn. I tried TruGreen for 13 months and fired them in June. At first they did not come on a regular schedule. I kept complaining and finally they started coming roughly every month. I did not notice much improvement in my lawn and then fungus hit large areas last Fall. This was after I asked for preventive disease treatment, as I know when temperatures in Coastal Georgia start to drop, the fungus appears in my lawn. This past spring I had major weed issues. It was obvious the lawn had not been treated with pre-emergent chemicals. It took 3 call backs to finally kill some of the weeds so I started spot treating the lawn myself. They would come and leave so quickly that I knew I wasn't receiving treatment on my entire lawn. I installed cameras last May and started monitoring the time spent on my lawn. I fired them after the June "treatment" as the guy walked around small area close to the house and left in 15 minurtes. This includes his sitting in the truck for quite some time. In short, I spent over $3,500 over 13 months and had horrible service and results. What I don't understand is how the regional office allows this to continue with inept employees. They have GPS on their vehicles and know how long the vehicle is parked at a customer's home. It should be very simple to monitor this and know immediately that the tech is not treating 64,000 square feet of lawn in 20 minutes. Customer service and management are very polite and seem interested in addressing issues but nothing actually changes with the service. read more

I'm sharing my experience to warn others. This company encourages manipulative tactics like using mental gymnastics on clients and cares more about sales than genuine service. I also have strong reason to believe that my personal information was mishandled after I left the company -- shortly after being removed from the system, I experienced suspicious unauthorized activity on my account which has NEVER happened before. So make sure not to get on Jon Showalter's bad side, or he may possibly give your card info out to scammer's! Leadership was unprofessional and emotionally immature, and the work environment was toxic. I stayed quiet for a long time out of professionalism, but I feel obligated to speak up so others can make informed decisions. After working here I began to question the company's ethical morals after they promoted us to manipulate clients to keep their accounts open, no matter the cost. This company is a professional SCAM, beware when purchasing services. You may not get what you asked for. There's many things and loopholes they don't inform their clients on, so don't be surprised when you get a random charge on Tuesday afternoon after 'cancelling' your account! Employees are careless with the weed killer. Spraying absolutely anything and everything. All my hydrangeas are burnt up, my lilac tree is burnt at the top. I don't know why they would even spray any higher than the actual ground, where the weeds are. They also sprayed inside my planters, burning up my mint. Thankfully, I haven't picked from it lately because absolutely not one sign was placed in any of the beds stating that they were here. They weren't even supposed to spray at my home and have been told not to on multiple occasions to skip my beds. read more

I've used this company for over a decade! I HAD a beautiful plush, weed free, green lawn. Last year I had called them and increased my treatments to monthly because over the last 3 years, every mid summer they were coming 8-10 and one time 12 weeks out, and I would have too many weed. Their do not have enough employees to cover their accounts! My last treatment would be the end of October when the lawn was completely covered with leaves from my neighbor that I couldn't keep up with, rendering it useless. Last summer late in the season, the front of my lawn turned white. My tech at the time, who was experienced thought it was red thread. I called the company for an evaluation and no one got back to me. It never spread, but the front was bad for the rest of the season. On Oct 6 last year a pack of Turkeys or skunks came through my back yard and dug up several holes destroying my lawn. When I raked up the dead grass I found grubs, despite grub treatment by TG. This year my lawn was PERFECT by early May. TG did a treatment on 6/27. I mowed the grass on 6/29 and it was beautiful, plush and green. The next day I noted some brown spots. Within a few days my entire lawn (1/3 acre) was infected with white, grey and brown. After the storms and the lawn being wet I can see many dark red spots. I called TG on 7/5. They made an appointment for a tech to come out in the am on Tuesday 7/8. No one showed. I called and was told no appointment was made. I was furious and fed up and immediately canceled my account. I purchased and distributed a fungal treatment myself on the 8th and hoping for results. It's been 3 days and I have a very small perfect area left on the lawn, so it did stop the spread however; no other changes yet. I'm hoping! This company has gone completely down hill. If the lawn was being treated properly it would not be diseased right now as shown in 5 photos. Customer service is difficult to get a hold of, you hold for long periods. I sent 2 messages on the app. with no response, before I committed to calling and holding. I'm extremely upset, disappointed and disgusted with my lawn. I can't even look at it! Now I'm in search of a company that will evaluate my lawn, treat it and who actually cares about their customers needs and results! After doing my own research, I learned that over fertilizing can cause fungal diseases. No one from TG bothered to tell me that or the importance of aeration which If that had been done properly, I would have continued with it. You're hearing this story again and again... they claimed they showed up yesterday... if they did...theres not a trace of treatment...including no signs that they usually put up to show they were there... we have a fenced in back yard and a dog... and I've told them EVERY time they have to call or text 1st, so that I can open the gate. When I was able to do it I did a 1000% better job than tru green. First of all you can't choose the services you want, you are forced into a 'plan' and end up paying for a bunch of stuff you don't want. I don't know what they did to my grass, pour poison on it? I'm one of the 2 or 3 houses that water on my street, but there are big, say 3 foot, diameter spots of dead dried hay where the grass used to be all over the place?? More hay than grass. Why just my lawn? Supposedly I'm getting grub treatment. I think only one other house uses a lawn service and mine is about the worst there is. Also, my back yard slopes into a woods, the dirt has eroded away and left the back yard sloping. No grass WOULD GROW THERE even with the tru green service. So I had a company bring in a load of big rocks and a truck load of dirt. (cost a lot) The rocks were use to line the back of the yard, and the dirt covered he rocks. I just wanted anything, weeds would be fine, to grow on the dirt so the roots would hold it in place. Grass would be no good because tru green can never keep it growing. So all summer I waited for the weeds to take hold, like ground ivy or ground lily's, because that stuff survives drought and always returns in the spring. So tru green comes, when I am home, with the front door open and could explain what they intend to do, but just goes and sprays weed killer on everything, so there goes the ground cover for all winter. Maybe I shouldn't worry, there weed killer never kills many of the yard weeds any way. These people don't communicate, care, or provide anything but the poorest service. Technically they do a good job but they will not stop calling me as many as 3x per day even on NYE! It's borderline harassment. Constant high pressure sales to the point of being sneaky. I had requested a respray on my backyard. In the past I had been told I could get two resprays a year for weeds. They did spray my backyard but charged me for a full service. They said I waited to long to call although the weeds had been there the whole summer. They have never been really good on weed control and I definitely an upset about charges read more

Today (07-23-25) the "specialist" Morillo came to do the service, he just put some signs in my yard then he went back to his truck smoke a cigarette and left ,he dosent apply anything to my lawn.(everything is been recorded)Now i know why my lawn has lots of weeds. Terrible terrible service...I called customer service to complain about weeds in my lawn...they scheduled me for a "reservice" at no charge...technician came and spent a total of 4 minutes including unwinding and rewinding the hose on his truck...I wasn't home but watched him on my ring cameras...he sprayed a little of the front and side lawn and never went to the backyard where the weeds we're...my lawn is about 3/4 acre...to make matters worse they charged me for the visit...when I called customer service back and requested that the manager of the office that services my property I was assured that he would call me back...it's now 6 days and 4 phone calls later and no one called me back...better off doing it myself with Scott's fertilizer read more

I wish I could give no stars. The service was a joke. They twice were caught on my camera skipping major parts of my property. The "report" said they rang our doorbell to tell us what they did, nope. They said they placed warning flags (we have a dog), nope. Oh, and I still had crab grass. When I called about clover, I was told that they did not prevent that. In July when the last service happened, the guy told me they did. Perfect. And when I rejected their endless upselling calls, they simply stopped coming. My last service was in July. Where is my fall service? When I called, they said that they front loaded the services. What? I wish I knew where the service actually came from locally. Dishonest, unprofessional, unprepared. TruGreen is a scam with terrible customer service! I would give zero stars if I could! We paid for a package in full up front with "satisfaction garuntee." After the first spray a worker came to spray for insecticide. He noted how the grass looked terrible and would put order in for someone to re spray crab grass. We were waiting for someone to come or see results. After about 6 weeks we called to follow up and they said bc we didn't call in 30 days they couldn't help us. We had been waiting on them to our knowledge! We work full time and easily miss workers coming to home. They wanted us to pay for another service. Why would we pump more money into a business with employees who lie, poor customer service, and a product that we havnt seen work? Also, they sent an uninvited stranger to my house (caught on Ring) while I was at work. It is shocking what this company is getting away with. First, let me start by saying this was for service in Ocean Springs MS. They promised everything on the phone, but after the first initial "full service" weed and fertilizer treatment, the weeds continued to thrive. I called and had a discussion, and they agreed to send someone out to retreat. When the tech arrive three weeks after the initial treatment, he used a portable hand sprayer and "spot" treated the weeds. We have over 22,000 Square Feet of lawn, and he was here for 11 minutes. Fast forward another month, and we call back because it's still a mess of weeds. They send another tech out, who I met at the door and explained the situation. She indicated all she could do was spot treat again, and I told her I wanted the whole property sprayed. As soon as I went inside, she walked around for 7 minutes and then jumped in her truck and split. Obviously, I cancelled all the services. The rep I talked to, Tina Collins, was sarcastic and said I was being unreasonable to expect instant results. Everytime I have contacted TruGreen to address my concerns, they have done so. The situation has been rectified by dispatching a service Tech or I was provided with a credit to my account. I have especially had exceptional service from Mike (DE) who always followed through and exemplifies the meaning of customer service.
