But the 2-3 hours of shooting range time is a difference maker. I enrolled both my wife and I in the course. Both of us have limited experience handling/shooting firearms. After taking David's beginner course, both of us fully understand the safety aspects of handling firearms. The 2-3 hours of range time developed our confidence with handling and firing 20 different guns including revolvers and semiautomatic handguns, rifles, and shotguns. I took the state mandated firearms safety test the next week and passed. We plan to go gun shopping next week to acquire our first handgun. I highly recommend 831Shooter to anyone interested or curious about this important 1st step in potential gun ownership, or a refresher that someone needs after being away from handling firearms.

I guess times have changed, and the other reviews I've seen reflect that. Not a big deal, really. But a little tip for business owners: it's not up to me to make your sale for you. The good: He provided good information, was knowledgeable, and got the training done. The bad: No way would I use him again. I'm all for safety, but he was constantly threatening the class to throw us out for a mild infraction of safety protocols. Not all protocols are the same level. Yes, I would agree with him if someone pointed a l.g. at someone due to negligence. But he was maniacal with well intentioned people. Another insanity after every firing drill, looking over both shoulders. Someone is going to get a neck kink this way. It's fine to teach it, but after every firing round, this is just dumb. He just used threats to drive behavior which drove us crazy. Update: 2 star to 5 star...spoke with Dave the owner. He graciously called me to find out what happened, a sign of someone who cares. I think this particular instructor cares too and maybe was just new and a little rigid, which isn't always a bad thing when it comes to safety. I will definitely after this interaction consider FTI for my future training needs.

I spoke with Roe and told him what I wanted. He was really receptive and said he could get it all done. It did take a bit of time but the end product is amazing. My father and I couldn't be happier. Since my last review, I've brought several people over that have bought their bows there. All…read morewalked out with a top-tier experience (and bow). A few notes after reading the reviews. 1) Jim is really the peak of bowmen....an archer's archer. I've gone hunting with others that have previously hunted with Jim. They told me that Jim took an Alaskan bear at 105 yards with a single arrow. When I confronted him with this, he said, "naw, it was only 100 yards"...... 2) He's been the paid factory rep - the face of the factory - for at least one bow manufacturer. Not an honor lightly achieved. 3) His whole family shoots at the expert level. Some will be there for training events. 4) Jim as a million stories and will give selflessly in showing you, your friends, your class, your league how to shoot. However, he does not suffer fools lightly and if you come in with the "customer's always right" or some other attitude, he will feel no need to help you any longer. Conversely, he is great with kids and clumsies. If you've ever noodled the idea of trying out a bow (I hate using long bows, but compound bows are great fun without pulling yourself apart), I highly recommend that you go visit and ask to try out a rental bow for an hour. Very inexpensive. If you don't get hooked, there's always chess or scrap-booking...... Jim - it was a privilege to shoot my first real bow there. My daughter is your biggest fan. I'll be back soon.

Jim took an incredibly generous amount of his time to make sure both my partner and I were set up for success, answering every question and making the whole process feel approachable and exciting. He didn't try to oversell anything at all one of the most up front and honest blokes I've come across. It's honestly the first time I've been to a shop that shows this level of care and attention to newcomers, it was an absolutely brilliant experience. Because of Jim, his mate Travis, and everyone else we met there, this is quickly becoming a serious hobby for us.
