This summer, we signed him up for the camp, and we couldn't be happier with our decision. The instructors were outstanding--patient, encouraging, and incredibly skilled at teaching climbing techniques. Most importantly, I always felt my son was safe and well cared for. On the last day of camp, they even opened the store a little late for us so we could pick up some things before we headed home. They really couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. I had compared their prices with those via the internet and they are almost identical. In a short conversation with a couple of the folks from the store as I was checking out I was told that they personally check out almost every piece of gear they sell. From Jet Boil Stoves to backpacks for your dog, they have it. Probably the biggest reason to shop at the Hiker Box is in knowing that what you buy will be well researched, quality products. A staff member provides a comprehensive review of the boat and it's features, and then you are free to cruise the blue-green waters of the Chain O' Lakes all day. The pontoon (20' Hydrotherapy) was clean and comfortable, the canopy kept us shaded when the sun was hot, you have swim stairs in case you want to stop at a sandbar and cool off, and there were no issues at all with the motor. Plus they give you a map showing the lakes in the chain, detailing which ones are no-wake so the day was relaxing and trouble-free from start to finish.
