My family of 22 booked almost $1000 at the Bethel outdoor adventures in campground for a day of tubing down the river. We were greeted with a long snarl of a face in the main office and while still on the river with multiple family, waiting for us to get off the river, they were yelled at and mistreated by Erin. And when I got off, I went to retrieve my keys to leave, and I was treated as if I was a moron when I tried to explain that I just had given her a fob, not a full set of keys. She treated me like I was a two year-old idiot and was very sassy with me and again with her long snarl of a face. This is not how Customers should ever be treated and you should not be the face of this company. I highly recommend another tubing company if you visit Bethel Maine

Would you like advice from someone who probably doesn't even spend that much time on the Snow? Then look no further you have found the place. The woman I talked to couldn't be wrong, knew everything and probably had no physical proof to back up anything she was saying. I talk to people who ski and board on a daily basis. The advice you get from someone who has the experience in relation to gear far supersedes someone who has "30 years experience in sports gear" (I'm sure parroting whatever representative pays the most) They are too expensive for what they are and definitely prey on who they perceived to be inferior. I knew I've been avoiding this place for a reason. A waste of time popping in. All I got was an attitude, a hardhead and a know it all. Beware

A hotel employee recommended this company for a private kayaking outing, and wow these guys were fantastic. We were Experienced, so had a solo outing. They take you to the pickup point, show you where to pull out of the river, and let you drop off your cars so leaving is easy. Then you are driven to a drop off point a few minutes away. The staff were fast and friendly and worked with us on weather related timing. The river itself was very pretty but a little slow- if you don't paddle you kind of just rest in one place. Cost was lower than other similar events ($40 a person, $50 single fee for the shuttle) and worth it. Equipment was well maintained and in good condition.

They still had a really deep base of groomed and compacted snow - at least 2 feet - with fresh snow on top, and we were graced by more flakes as we skied around. Carter's is a cute little family-run ski center where you can rent and buy equipment and gear; they have a few snacks and hot water for cocoa upstairs, indoor bathrooms downstairs, and they offer lessons. There's a "food truck" (which isn't open all the time but looks to have a great menu!), ample parking, trail maps (paper and online), and knowledgeable people to answer all your questions. There's also a loungy area inside for warming up, and a fire pit outside, plus miles and miles of trails for all levels of skiers. After parking, make sure to go inside and get your trail pass! The price of the pass supports the center, trail grooming, equipment maintenance and other expenses. On the day we visited we skied approx 3 miles, mostly the beginner and intermediate trails. The open fields of Carters Pasture were great for our warm up, with views of the snow capped mountains all around. The two bridges were out, and although we couldn't figure out how to find the trail head from the road, we took our chances without skies and crossed the water, sinking into the deep snow up to our knees! We then skied all the way up to the yurt, and the groomed trails were great for classic. We tried our skis at the ungroomed part of Upper Sand Pasture, and even though we have been skiing for two decades, we found the small bumpy section full of water hazards and sticky. We were glad to get to the end of that and back into the good glide on Sunset Blvd, Head of the Swamp and Jesse's Hill. We left just before closing, feeling really happy for the experience, especially since this entire winter of 2024 has not been great. We definitely recommend checking them out - rent equipment and take lessons, or bring your own and buy your pass. You can ski all day, have lunch, rest, and ski again. If we lived closer I would definitely get a season pass. Looking forward to another visit in the future!

We talked about the weather, we enjoyed their large wood burning stove that kept us warm while we suited up. They gave us tips and send us out on the trail that were very well groomed. The staff and service I encountered at Northern Waters Outfitters in Errol, NH was the most…read moreunprofessional that I have ever experienced in my 30 years of wilderness travel. After a 2 hour paddle to my campsite on Lake Umbagog, I unloaded my kayak and discovered that the kayak had taken on significant water due to a leak in the rear bulkhead. There was a gallon or two in the compartment, along with my belongings. It was a mess. And the added water weight explained why the boat was dragging. I left numerous polite voicemails and wrote several emails over the next 24 hours, describing the problem and requesting a replacement boat. No one returned my calls, and the one email I received indicated I'd get a replacement kayak brought to me that day. But it never arrived. With an impending storm, we thought it was risky to attempt to paddle back in a boat that was already leaking, and with no replacement boat, we decided to be safe and cut our trip short to avoid paddling in the rain. So, our trip was cut short due to the leaking boat provided by Northern Water Outfitters. More so, it was cut short due to the complete lack of response to the problem. When I arrived back at Northern Waters Outfitters, I had to hunt down someone to assist me (as it had been when I'd initially rented the kayak). When I explained what I had been through to the staff member, he belittled me and insinuated that I was not "patient enough" when waiting for the replacement boat. Note: We had been waiting all day the previous day, at the campsite. We had not been able to kayak around and enjoy the lake on our trip, because we were waiting for the boat, and because it didn't feel safe. I was forced to cut my trip short as I did not feel safe returning with a leaky boat, along with taking in rain (no spray skirt was issued). This staff member was rude and condescending. He again stated, with an attitude, "I was bringing you the boat". When I explained that my concern was based on my extensive experience and knowledge as a wilderness guide in the past, he reacted by mocking me for being a "world renowned expert" (which I never claimed to be) and continued to belittle me. At that point, I told him I expected a refund for the full rental period. He responded with statements such as "you'll get your refund" "whatever you want, expert". His attitude was perplexing, as I'd been extremely patient and polite for the duration, despite the circumstances. While I was issued a refund for the rental, no one from Northern Waters Outfitters had contacted me with an apology or to learn more about how they could have prevented this situation in the first place. Based on the condition of their boats, their customer service, and disregard for my safety, I cannot recommend this outfitter to anyone who is seeking to rent kayaks in Errol, NH. I see that this business has good reviews in the past. Perhaps the owner needs to take note of who he's leaving in charge.

Overall a great place to rent gear while at Lake Umbagog!…read more I'll be honest there was a staff misunderstanding/snafu that could have ended up being a really sour spot in our weekend, but the owner Thomas was amazing about going out of his way to fix things. The boat was in great condition, lifejackets were new, and the location of the shop was great for exploring and putting in. One thing to note, they apparently have spots on the lake that you can rent to camp at? Also their boats are cheaper than those at the state park, so maybe next year we'll go directly with NW for everything. Thanks again Thomas :) Jen
