It doesn't seem as busy and it feels more like Mexico than many of the urban areas. This market is a part of what gives the area its charm. Because coyoacan is the home of Frida Kahlo, Coyoacan is known to be home to many artists. While I didn't see that on a Tuesday afternoon, I hear the weekends and nights are more lively. This market full of local vendors, but a lot of what's here is touristy souvenirs that aren't cheap. Was considering rating this 3 stars as I couldn't find anything I really wanted to buy; however I do think it's an essential part of the local flavor

You won't find too many different clothing options here. The restaurant section probably has about twenty five small mom-and-pop restaurants, with each one specializing in different Mexican dishes. Walking past these small restaurants definitely gave me the urge to eat something. There are also a few candy vendors, which is where I found the mazapan treat, as well as, a couple of small coconut treats. They were delicious and jist what I needed. The market is about four blocks away from Alameda and metro Hidalgo.

The contemporary art gallery is beautiful (industrial with concrete and yet green with plant life and warm with lots of warm toned wood). When I visited, they had a couple of exhibitions, but one really blew me away: "gala porras-kim: future spaces replicate earlier spaces." The graphite works in particular in this exhibit made me stop in my tracks, and I spent more time at the gallery than I expected to. They also have plenty of nice bathrooms, places to sit, and a gift shop, so you can spend quite a bit of time here. It's a beautiful gallery, and I'd happily return (and check out the NYC gallery) on the strength of the gala porras-kim exhibit! Check it out if you're in the beautiful San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood!
