Beautiful creative space for people with skills. I on the other hand was a complete novice and had…read morezero clue how to do any of this. So I signed up for wheel throwing and hand building classes. These classes are very popular and they fill up quickly. 8 week classes where you come in once a week for 2 hours cost 155.00. You will also have to pay for clay and tools. The instructor was very knowledgeable, however, I feel like I could have learned more. Most of the students in my class had previous experience and did not need as much attention. I want to sign up for another class and maybe I will get much better at it. Overall this was a great experience!

I recently did a "play with clay" class with a girlfriend. It was hosted at the Dodge location in…read morean old bus. The bus is cool! FYI- the bus only holds two guests at a time. It's equipped with two wheels, countertops for the clay, and a small sink for washing. The class is described as an "opportunity to try the potter's wheel with one hour of instruction at our Dodge Studio. It includes 2 hours of Instructed Wheel time and we provide clay, aprons, and tools. You can do this as a fun experience or choose to save pots as a memento. ($5 per piece)." For some constructive feedback- the description or confirmation information should include some further details like recommended attire (which might not be super obvious to everyone), that the 2 hours you pay for also include time for you to clean the bus, like everything- the wheel, water vessels, tools, surfaces, etc. Clay can get messy and we were not aware of the clean up rules until the very end! Informing people in advance is not that hard. Just by including a tidbit about how the co-op operates, their water saving efforts, etc, would set everyone up for clear expectations. For the record, I absolutely agree that a co-op is only as functional as the folks who are partaking in it and I am all for being part of a the full process and respecting it. Neither of us had tried wheel throwing before and it's actually a lot to process and apply in a 2 hour period. Wheel throwing requires lot's of time and patience. Our instructor Eva, demonstrated for about an hour and touched on a bunch of different steps before handing over the wheels to us, and hanging for a bit to guide us through our first attempts. We felt an overall vibe of impatience from our instructor. Questions were met with a tone of "I already told you" or "it's posted on the wall." Another suggestion is to consider hanging some visuals at the front of the bus with the steps in the process. That way, when students are left independently, they can reference them as little reminders, because it's not easy to remember them all at once. We also we very unclear as to whether or not we were limited to the two clay pieces we started the class with, which turns out, we could have pulled more clay from the bag. Again, another opportunity for the co-op and instructors to prep their students/customers for a more seamless experience. How about prep 4 balls per person and see if they even use them all? The clay gets reused anyway. Leaving us there to wonder wasn't ideal. It took several weeks to hear back from them for a pick up notice on our items. We each fired/glazed one. I was prepared to not even get my item after so much time passed. There's room for improvement and it all comes down to information and communication. Would I do this class again? Maybe and perhaps try a different instructor. Overall, if you're looking to try something new and clay is on your mind, I think this is fun option. It was $120 for the class, plus $5 per item we fired and glazed, so not bad.

To me it…read morefelt disorganized, not singular focused, and I felt the person that said "I need help" the most, one person in particular who showed up late twice barked the loudest and she received the majority "one-on-one" help. She really needed a private class that could work with her schedule. I was so frustrated that I did not come back for the last two classes. I went to pick up my projects and could not find one of them. No explanation just gone. When teaching a class I have found it works best when everyone is working on the SAME project, and the instructor has examples in stages to show and tell them while doing a walk around checking in with students while the class is working on the SAME project/item. This was not the case everyone was all over the place and there really was no organization to the class plus we did not follow what was stated in the class notes. I feel it was poorly organized, lack of instruction and follow-through. Rebecca was our instructor, she is a kind and thoughtful person who is very knowledgeable, and I think if she changed a few things she could make the classes fantastic. This was a beginner's class, so I sincerely feel they need to be more structured and supervised (walkaround). I would like to note that my mother, husband and I all took the class, and this sentiment was felt by all. To be truthful, due to my experience with this first class I will not be taking another class, sorry but that is how I feel. I took this class to gain some rudimentary techniques, relax, and spend some time with family but instead left with two classes to go due to anxiety and learning NOT MUCH to NOTHING! I am not someone who gives up easily but I felt the frustration and anxiety simply was NOT worth the gain or lack there of.

Sometimes…read morethere are people in your life that are so good, bring so much value and care so deeply, your work and Life changes because of them. My enormous great good fortune is my Acting Coach Aubyn Philabaum. Aubyn is a Yale trained actor who began coaching acting, auditioning and career mentoring in LA. When auditioning in person transitioned to mostly remote, Aubyn was coaching through zoom, ensuring we were performing the deepest on-camera work and had the most technically impeccable audition tapes to send in. No audition opportunity was left to chance. She took such a fulsome interest in every aspect of each student. A personal mentor: From assessing where they were in their acting to what needed to be done to make an audition great, to getting auditions on camera to turn in, to deepening the work both in person and for camera, to assessing career choices and goals, marketing, head shots...she is a full Mentor. Recently, as I prepared to perform a solo show of 90 minutes, I hired Aubyn to guide me from unmemorized to last performance. Her devotion to my work, the script, my well-being, my voice and body work, my emotional life within the play was consummate. Aubyn is an empath. So there was no moment we passed by without her stopping to help me go deeper inside myself to bring forward the truest experience. Aubyn is a brilliant coach who works gently and lovingly but with passion to get the best work out of her students. She is invested in each of her student's growth and success. Her love of acting permeates everything she does. And this innate calling takes her actors to the truth of their work. I wish I had known her when I first came into the acting world. To this day, I wonder if my career would have blossomed had I had her by my side. But I have her now, and as my career takes a different turn, I know I'll never be without her by my side if I'm able. I know she works remote for many but she's relocated to Tucson and opened an Acting School there, so actors in Arizona are soon to find out what secret magic they now have next door. Thank you Aubyn. I look forward to working with you as long as you're coaching.
