The health and safety of the people and the animals in the shelter are priorities. There is a wellness clinic and a law enforcement office at the shelter as well. If you visit, please don't open a dog's enclosure on your own. Some of our lovable pups are escape artists, and it just makes unnecessary risk of injury to someone if you open the door and the animal dashes off to the great outdoors (potentially knocking someone like me over) instead of greeting you. The dog doesn't know you, and he may just be more interested in distant sounds and scents at the moment than he is in you. Instead, get hold of an adoption counselor out in front and ask to see the animal you would like to meet. They're authorized to arrange for positive "first dates" between animals and prospective adopters. I love this shelter, and I can say that the people here seriously care about what's best for the animals in their care. It's also a great place to volunteer!
