Be Careful - Purchasing replacement windows is complex. You need a company that guides you through the process and Tropical Windows failed to provide that guidance. To be fair, the crew installing the windows and doors was very good and I would hire them again. We chose Tropical Windows because they are local and have a positive reputation of providing great service in our area. We replaced two large patio doors along with over 20 windows in our home. Our windows were 24 yrs old and had many issues and needed replacement. The sales representative recommended doors from PGT and windows from MI Windows. I was assured there was no significant difference between PGT and MI Windows. Looking at the windows in their showroom, they were correct. I was excited with my purchase. When the windows were installed, I was stunned by the appearance of the glass at night - looking at the MI windows at night from the inside toward the outside was like looking at a green mirror. The PGT doors had some reflections but was nowhere near the MI Windows green mirror like reflection (see picture). I was told by Tropical Windows that this was the industry standard and to basically live with it. As i did more research, the green mirror like reflection is a result of the Low-e coatings that are applied to the glass. It also turns out that the reflection color can be adjusted by the chemistry of the coating on the glass. PGT has a different reflection color and appearance than MI. How am I as a layman be aware of these issues? I needed Tropical Windows to be my guide, and this is where they failed me. What should Tropical Windows do differently? 1. As a layman, I made the erroneous assumption that glass is clear and colorless. I should have been made aware of the reflection differences and the impact on the appearance. According to the Tropical Windows personnel this is a common issue with customers purchasing new windows, specifically with the MI windows. 2. As part of the purchasing process, we should have had glass samples in our house so I could observe the reflection under our lighting conditions. The process is similar to assessing paint colors with a small paint chip. Tropical Windows should not duck this issue but should help guide the customer in the purchasing process. 3. MI Windows is the parent Company of PGT as well as New South Windows. The MI windows probably provide the installer with a greater profit margin and that is why Tropical Windows recommended using MI Windows. There are substantial differences between manufacturers and Tropical Windows should not recommend two separate manufacturers especially when the windows are adjacent with each other in the living area. What can I do now? 1. It has been a month living with the windows. I am trying to get used to my green mirrors at night, but it is extremely annoying and reminds me of how stupid I was in not being more careful with my window purchase. 2. I am looking at alternative lighting systems that minimize the intensity of the green reflections. 3. I cover the windows at night with shades, so I do not see the reflections. Bottom line: if you are considering purchasing windows from your home, get samples of the glass being used and evaluate the glass in your home lighting. Demand excellence from the window installer in guiding you through the process. read more

Disappointing. We were in the 11th month since our new home was constructed and there was chipping on some of the window frames. Our home construction company (Citrus Hills Construction) told us to go to the subcontract, Tropical Window, and they would come out to touch up the paint chips since it was within the one-year warranty period. Tropical Window said they would do it, but they would charge for it. Here is the exact cut from the email that they sent me "We could send someone to do the touch up for you from our service department, but there would be a labor and service charge for us to come out" The email was sent from "Brenna". I also said I would do the touch up work if they would give me the touch up paint, but they wanted to charge me $60 for a small can of the paint. Disappointing given that the windows they billed for on our home were well in excess of $20,000 and they still would not back their product and honor a one-year warranty. read more

Had single pane windows replaced with double pain/argon gas between panes for sound and heat/AC insulation. While supply-chain and COVID problems delayed them, they came 1 month ahead of the "4-5 month" delay. The first crew of 2 was joined by a second so that they could finish in one day. All the crew was overwhelmingly polite (said the Northern transplant to the southern business), only quiet and happy conversations overheard, and broom cleaned inside, all neat outside. I would recommend them, as well as use them again. Per Duke, both days since the install have seen lower electric usage than my average for last month. Second was Robert Mount who was the salesman who came to our house. He also was very professional and knowledgeable, and most important of all he wasn't the least bit pushy and didn't pressure us at all. He did tell us up front that there would be a 7 to 9 month wait just to get the doors. He made our buying experience easy. 9 months later our doors came in and we were set up for installation. I called Tropical Windows, at the suggestion of a friend who had their old windows replaced and made an appt for them to come out and give us an estimate. The gentleman came out within a couple days and gave us a written estimate for all 16 windows which was reasonable. We arranged for them to do 1/2 and the other half after the first of the year. It took 8-12 weeks for them to be made and shipped which they explained in advance. When the day came for them to be installed, one of the workers was injured the day before so they came the following day and they sent 2 crews so that it would be finished on time. The men were all extremely polite and worked very hard to get it done quickly. We love our new windows and can't wait to get the project finished. The house looks so much nicer. BEWARE...they charge $60 for a SERVICE CALL and $60/HOUR FOR LABOR. Before having them come out, ask them to tell you what their charges are for the call. I have had service people come to my home(s) and have NEVER been charged for a service call when the work was done. Also, I came home and my wife was cleaning up the metal drill filings, dirt and grease from the sliding door track. First time the workers didn't clean up after themselves. I'll find another company to deal with. Tropical Windows certainly has dropped the ball. Maybe that's why the reviews here are from five and six years ago...somebody cleaning out the bad reviews? read more

We contacted Tropical Window January 2022 to get an estimate on replacing eight colonial insulated vinyl windows. Robert arrived on time for the estimate and he explained that due to supply change issues, we could plan on six to eight months before the windows would be delivered to them from the manufacturer. Although this was longer than we anticipated, we liked the fact that Tropical Window is local and has an excellent business reputation in Citrus County. True to their word, Tropicana called us the first week of September and said our windows had arrived and they would be installed the second week of September! Installers Dylan and James worked tirelessly for two days installing our windows. They removed our vinyl siding, installed the windows, replaced siding, cleaned up debri, and hauled away the old windows! I would NOT recommend this company to anyone simply for the fact that the customer service I received over the phone was terrible and totally disorganized. I called on a Monday and spoke with a lady about installing a window in a new business I'm opening. I asked for someone to come out and give me a quote and she said it would be better if I could call back with the measurements for the window I'd be needing. I drove out to the business, got the measurements, and called back the next day. I gave a different lady the measurements and a general overview of the project. She said it was late in the day, but that a salesman would call me some time after 11am the following day. Two days later, after not hearing from anyone, I called back and this time was greeted by a man over the phone. After I explained the situation, the man didn't apologize for the company not returning calls or for the company having no record of my project or previous phone calls. Instead, he rudely told me I shouldn't have called them with measurements -- that I should have set up an appointment for someone to come out. I started to re-explain that setting an appointment was the point of my original calls, but he cut me off with a big sigh and started being rude again. I listened for a moment then cut him off to tell him I didn't think Tropical Windows was the right fit for my business, and that they were making it very difficult to become a customer or even WANT to be one. I then ended the phone conversation and called three other window businesses -- all three of which were polite over the phone and set up appointments to come out and give me a free estimate. And what do you know... they scheduled the appointment during our FIRST phone conversation. I couldn't be more pleased with the company I decided to use! :) Bottom line: I don't know what kind of quality work Tropical Windows does. Quite frankly though, I don't care.
