We met Lance, who both struck up conversations with us and made us feel right at home and even offered us water while we waited. The cheesesteaks were outstanding. Huge portions with perfectly seasoned steak. The next evening we came back for dinner just after they had closed. A woman saw us outside trying to come up with a backup plan and kindly invited us in to see if they could still help. Her husband Brad invited us in as Lance remembered us from the day before and they happily made us sandwiches. They were also cleaning out the ice cream machine from the day and gave us and passerby's free shakes instead of letting them go to waste. The food was amazing, but the kindness and customer service were what really stood out. Penn Steaks is now our State College go to! Check them out!!

I love cheesesteaks when they're made correctly, and Penn Steaks got it right! Truly excellent; I…read morewish I visited this place sooner. Super fresh rolls with the right texture that have some give, some squish, but still held up well to being stuffed with the steak, cheese, and add-ins/sauce. Also good quality ribeye steak that's well chopped. I prefer mine with provolone and sweet peppers, along with marinara on top. But honestly, these cheesesteaks are good enough with just steak and cheese. The fries here are shoestring, which is perfect if you don't want soggy fries when you let them sit. Penn Steaks uses beef tallow which gives it a bit more savory taste. I'm not really into beef tallow for frying, yet I still enjoyed then. I'd still prefer Five Guys fries over these. But don't let that stop you from trying them! And the service was fantastic. The person taking my order was polite and helpful. I even met one of the co-owners who was very friendly! A great guy to chit-chat if you like that sort of thing. I learned quite a bit from him during my visit. They sell their cheesesteaks in 6", 9", and 18". The 9" is generous and should satisfy most people. I might be able to finish an 18" if was really hungry and didn't add too much to it, but I'd be in pain afterwards! The 18" is better for sharing. I'll stop by more often for a good cheesesteak. Next time I'll get extra cheese on it. I know I'll probably be addicted to their cheesesteaks sooner or later. Edit: added photo of their cheesesteak

We got the around the world nachos, which were awesome. Big portion. The bbq chicken tacos, Asian 5 spice beef tacos, and the pork tacos are a must try. Everything had the right amount of spice and the food was very fresh. If you're not sure about what to get, try the taco flight which comes with 3 tacos for $14.99. Each taco with either flour or corn tortilla will cost you about $6. The ambiance is nothing to rave about. But all you need is a table to enjoy this fantastic food. Must try.

This is a small shop that seems to mostly exist for takeout or delivery with a third party. They do…read morehave seating for dine-in though, which seems odd given that I didn't see any bathrooms. There was only one door inside and it's for "staff only". On the menu they claim to batter their food in house, and I'd agree on that. Not at all processed, which is great! I tried the chicken tenders, of which they give a generous portion. However, they had almost no flavor. It's a shame that there's too little seasoning in the batter, and absolutely no seasoning on the chicken itself. No rub, no marinade of the meat, nothing. Because of that the chicken wasn't very good. It wasn't tender, and had a strong "chickeny" taste (that taste you get when you overcook chicken or had it frozen and then cooked it without any seasoning). It's a shame, because this place had promise. The fried chicken tenders looked amazing... just wished they tasted at least half as good as they looked.

State College bagel visit, part 1…read more Irving's is located in the heart of State College, directly across College from Penn State. This is clearly a student favorite, with amole seating capacity and plenty of coffee. It was well-inhabited by sleepy students during my ex May visit. I ordered a basic poppy bagel (toasted) wiith cream cheese. Service was quick and friendly, with a generous schmear of cream cheese. The bagel was tasty, and in the middle (in my experience) of the amount of poppy seed. I'd definitely recommend Irving's though it is probably a madhouse during the school year so plan your visit accordingly.
