After hiking nearby, my son wanted a smoothie. I'm never one to turn down a treat, so we hit the map and found the closest place-which happened to be Tropical Smoothie Cafe. Upon entering, we were cheerfully welcomed in and helped with our order. The nice young man behind the counter offered a suggestion when we were contemplating our options. The drinks didn't take long at all and were brought out to our table. The flavor was good, although I thought they were a bit heavy on the ice and less on the actual fruit. For about $20 (including a tip), I felt that we didn't really get a good value. There are not various sizes, just one size which is rather large. Paying too much $$$ for just a bunch of ice!! ZERO stars! We ordered five smoothies, 2 Sunrise Sunset, Bahama Mama, Paradise Point, and a Mango Madness. We watched them making them and they are 80% ICE!! They all tasted bland and watered down. We were all totally disappointed! We had purchased the same exact smoothies a year ago, and they weren't watered down. They have definitely changed and added more ice! We also got the açai bowl, it was the smallest quantity of açaí you could ever get for the $10 price tag!!! It's so small and tiny!! We arrived 10 minutes before the main cafe closed. The employees were NOT happy to see us! In fact one lady just kept glaring at us!! Not friendly or helpful!! At exactly 9 PM, we were told that they were closed and had us move to the outdoor seating. Outside was chilly and breezy, and we regretted getting smoothies. The table outside are disgusting, and we had food and shakes that we didn't want to put on top of the table! This is not the place to get smoothies! Today my wife picked up a Baja chicken salad bowl for me. It was around 1 p.m. on a Saturday. The bowl (see photo) had very little chicken and what it did have was dried out and/or overcooked. I've eaten here at least 5-6 times, and there is a pattern of slow service and intermittent quality. You can read the several reviews that talk about unusual wait times...even when there aren't a lot of people there. The smoothies were great. However, probably the worst customer service ive ever experienced. When i walked in they were not very busy and yet i stood at the counter to have my order taken for quite a while, all the employees (all teen girls btw) were clearly ignoring me while i stood waiting, 2 of them even gave angry glares at me. Then another customer arrived for a pickup behind me, after a moment, an employee comes over and sees me, ignores me entirely and starts talking to the person behind me about their order, afterwards goes back to what she was doing beforehand! I have heard so many amazing things about this place and was so disappointed. The good: it's not just a smoothie place! I was surprised to see sandwiches and other food on the menu. They also had some unique flavors I don't typically see at a smoothie place like kiwi. The not-so-good: the smoothies had a lot of ice with a little flavor. It seemed to be mostly ice plus flavoring which was not my favorite. I was hoping for something more healthy and less sugary. I also didn't like that they only had one size of smoothies. I typically like this place. However today when I went in I got a little worried about how sanitary this location may be. An employee not on the clock came in and went behind the counter to make her own food. I don't believe she washed her hands, her very long hair was down and she kept touching it as she was making her food/smoothie items. I love the chicken chipotle here and my smoothies are always pretty good but I do have to say every time I am at this location they are super slow yet act like the place is jammed pack I don't think there is any effort on customer service just get rid of the customer as quickly as possible without a hello or have a good day and maybe that's the kids these days which is a bummer. I order the SuperGreen Cesar chicken Bowl. It came with iceberg lettuce and no kale spinach or romaine lettuce. When I told the waitress/ girl Who brought our food out she said she would be back and after a few minutes she brought out a small bag of spinach and Romain lettuce. I then went and spoke to the Manager Amber after talking to her they rushed to remake the salad but I told her I would just like a refund and so she said okay. This is an update to my last review. I decided to give this location another try, and I must say it was impressive. Complete turn around from my last visit. The manager was very friendly and helpful to me, and everything he suggested was just great. The workers( I think there were maybe 4 people working) were all friendly and smiling as they rushed around getting things accomplished. There were several other customers inside, and quite a few cars in their drive-thru, but I still felt they took the time to make my order just how I requested it. I watched one girl bouncing around helping multiple other workers, and still smiling when she looked over at the customers as they walked in. I've been to other food places, and there are almost always at least twice as many people working as this place, but this place, even understaffed, was knocking it out yesterday. I left with an appreciation for the staff and their fast paced work ethic. And I will be sure to visit again when they're less busy, since I felt bad that I added to what looked like a busy day for them. We got there about 12:05 and it was not ready which would not be a huge deal but we waited for 10 minutes until we got our smoothies. we waited 15 minutes and my co worker got up to see if they had started our food. One of my favorite things to get here is the Baja chicken wrap with apple kale slaw. This time when I went the rice was cold and crunchylike it had just been taken out of a freezer bag, the chicken and beans were cold, the cheese was not melty... I absolutely love this place, I don't know if 'addicted' is the right word, but it sure is close!! I've gotten a smoothie almost every single day this summer, and last summer as well. The Bahama Mama is my personal favorite smoothie, but you really can't go wrong. The food is also extremely good. All of the wraps are great, and the flatbreads are my favorite. They are a little slow when they get rushed, but they are human, so what can you do? Sitting inside is always nice and cool, making it even more enjoyable!!
