This is not a "bash" review. In fact, we like this DQ. Decent food, good prices, friendly staff. My…read morehubby was just there yesterday with our three-year-old grandson, who is a big fan of ice cream and sprinkles. What little kid doesn't like sprinkles? They are colorful bits of joy that just makes anything you sprinkle them on instantly better. And yet, sprinkles seemed to be the very hill that this DQ decided to die on yesterday. My husband ordered a meal for himself, a peanut buster parfait, and a kid's meal for our grandson which included chicken strips, applesauce, chocolate milk, and a small dish of plain vanilla ice cream. Because he is a young child and young children enjoy things that are small, colorful and tasty, he asked if he could have sprinkles on his ice cream. Sprinkles. Not nuts, not candy bits, not gold leaf. Sprinkles. Cheap, fun, instant happiness in an often not so happy world. Instead of a "Of course, Sweetie", his innocent request was met with, "Sprinkles are a $1.27 upcharge." An upcharge on sprinkles? Tiny little sprinkles that are pretty much insignificant to anyone who isn't a child, yet here is DQ, who has a sign in the restaurant proclaiming that they are The Home for Happiness, trying to extort $1.27 from a three-year-old for sprinkles on an ice cream that came with a kid's meal. Kids and sprinkles; the two are synonymous. The child didn't want a Costco sized container; a teaspoon full would have sufficed nicely. He would have been delighted. Instead, his Papa declined the upcharge, and instead shared some chocolate from his own peanut buster parfait with our sweet boy, who never once complained or protested. Now I agree, this is a lot to say about a few sprinkles, but that is my very point. His Papa took him to DQ to have a meal and a yummy ice cream. Ice cream with sprinkles is everything to a toddler, and should not come with a $1.27 upcharge. Simple joys should stay simple. Sprinkles are about as simple as it gets. Whether this is a franchise practice or a corporate decision, I hope that someone reconsiders this now. Meanwhile I will be packing my own sprinkles.

This new ice cream shop in the Bethel area of Hampton is located in the old Dairy Queen Building…read more It has a similar menu, with a focus on deserts such as sundaes, cones, milkshakes, etc., but also on hotdogs, naming them after local high schools, locations in the city, and the originals, Chicago, New York, and Detroit-themed hotdogs. Now, this place has all outdoor seating, which makes it a really nice place to visit after dinner to have some ice cream. It is also good for lunch. It works by placing your order at one window and picking it up at the next. They buzz you to let you know when your order is ready. The service is pretty quick, especially with scoop ice cream orders. Hotdogs and other items take a little longer, but Because they are pre-made, it just takes a little bit to serve them up. The food is okay, but the ice cream is fantastic. The price is excellent, the service is good, and the overall experience is good. I recommend going by in the evening, sitting outside, and enjoying some ice cream. The view is not good, for the place is located on Big Bethel Road, but don't let that ruin your time. I'll be back.
