Last week as I was scarfing down a chimmichanga my dining partner brought up the thought that flatbreads, tortillas even pasta are -- for lack of a better term -- transports, transporting the focus of the meal to our awaiting mouths. I scoffed at this as folly. It's clearly as important to the culture and to the dish, right? But the more I reflected, the more it began to make sense as I was looking through peanut butter and jelly lenses. The flour Roti wrap is a fabulous transporter and the dusting of chickpea really sets it apart -- how I love West Indian cooking and the love is building as I'm eating. The flour Roti shell is so durable, easily keeping together the bone in chicken parts, not splitting no structural failures from start to unbuttoning of top button. The hot trays must have numbered near twenty-five and the beautiful stewed meats steam slowly releasing, the fragrances of the beautiful cultures spices -- all creating an all out assault on my food consumption sensory system, I treaded easy, I wanted so much to take one of everything home. There is so much more time to eat among the hot tin checkerboard, to come again and again and again.

Usually don't come on liberty ave For anything, I try to avoid liberty At all cost. When I comes to doubles I usually go to triniciti, but was on liberty on Saturday, so decided to try tropical jade 3 doubles. The line were all the way to the back. Stood in the line. Ordered a triple doubles to try, upon getting my order I sat there to eat, let me tell you, you have to give credit when credit is due! The doubles was hella good I meant great, very tasty.l. I actually went back and ordered another one, it was Way better than trinciti who's losing their standards. Guys keep it up.

The service here is decent. Their food is generally palatable but their doubles has really declined.

A large variety of very fresh and delicious Trini foods served in quite large quantities. Two meals can feed 3 adults.

Poor customer service. The staff is so hostile and aggressive towards customers. Their food isn't that great. It was watery and flavorless.

When a restaurant always I mean ALWAYS, has a line, you know the food is about to be the best!…read more Trinciti Roti shop is your stop for authentic Trinidadian food. The lines are always from counter to door. On my recent visit, I saw that they installed a few kiosks to help with the output. I used it and waited about 10 mins for my order while the line moved slowly. They are also on Uber Eats, if you want to avoid the wait. Some of my favorites are the doubles, bake & shark, chicken roti and most of their curry selections. Everything with medium pepper of course! Food is always delicious and filling. Staff can be a little bit testy but that comes with being in Caribbean territory..lol

When the Trini food craving hits, you answer the call! I ordered delivery from Trinciti Roti Shop…read moreand treated myself to quite the Caribbean spread! The boneless curry chicken with channa was packed with flavor and plenty of delicious curry sauce, paired with a generously sized, soft, fluffy paratha roti. The doubles was messy (as a good doubles should be! The messier, the better!), but the bara had that nice texture I love. The pepper and tamarind sauces were a nice touch, too! The Caribbean chicken soup was hearty and flavorful, although I would've loved a few more dumplings. The dhal was delicious, nice and chunky with that wonderful roasted geera and garlic flavor. It paired beautifully with rice later on. I purchased a side of pepper sauce i've got a nice size small container to last me for a while! Rounded out the order with some kurma for a sweet treat. Overall, a satisfying taste of Trinidad with plenty of authentic Caribbean flavor. Definitely worth ordering again!

**A MUST VISIT RESTAURANT IN LITTLE GUYANA** **DELICIOUS…read moreFOOD & BAKERY ITEMS** A SPECIAL PART OF QUEENS Spanning about thirty blocks around Liberty Ave in Richmond Hill, is a very interesting neighborhood known as Little Guyana. An area where one of the largest populations of Guyanese immigrants reside in New York, along with others hailing from Trinidad, Jamaica, India, and Asia. As such, it's a bustling Indo-Caribbean mixing pot neighborhood, with - in some areas - a times square vibe. And most importantly, home to multiple restaurants, Carribean bakeries, clothing shops, grocery stores, and even Guyanese style Chinese food restaurants (Yes, that really is a thing!) EXPERIENCE LITTLE GUYANA AT SYBIL'S A fantastic way to start off your exploration of Little Guyana is to visit Sybil's Bakery. Here, Sybil, an expat from Guyana, along with her relatives and children, have been serving Guyanese specialties to the Richmond Hill community for almost 50 years. Offering steam tables filled with fantastic food, Bakery items, and authentic drinks. THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT Ask someone from Guyana, and they'll tell you that Sybil's is a top spot to visit in the neighborhood. Because of this, the restaurant can sometimes become very crowded, with a line spilling out the door, and down the sidewalk. So it's best not to visit during peak times if possible. And as it's a small restaurant with no tables, you must enter, grab a ticket from the dispenser, and then wait for your number to be called. And while waiting, it's a great time to check the various offerings in the steam table area, take a peak at all the bakery items and patties, and peruse the large menu above the counter. And to be honest, because of the large number of choices here, you really need to do this, so you'll have somewhat of an idea what to order when you're called. YOU HAVE TO TRY... Just about everything is delicious here, so all the standard Caribbean dishes, such as Jerk Chicken, Stewed Chicken, Fried Chicken, Oxtail, Curries and sides are all great choices. And then another wonderful item to try here, is Guyanese Pepper Pot, a traditional meat stew with a dark spiced gravy. And don't forget to order a tasty Roti to eat along with any saucy dishes you order. In addition, the fantastic Guyana Style Chinese items, such as the Chow Mein (fried noodles) and Fried Rice - which are my favorite- are seasoned exceptionally well with Caribbean spices, making these dishes hit differently, in comparison to other restaurants. Of course there are regular Jamaican style Beef Patties and Chicken Patties being served here, which are very tasty. But the Guyana style Patties, which are round, and packed full with either beef or chicken, & veg are scrumptious and unique. With these, the crust is more similar to that of a chicken pot pie, and the generous filling is fantastic. Meanwhile, because these are so friggin good, you will see people order them here by the dozen, to take home. So don't pass these up. Another popular choice, especially during lunch, are Sybil's famous Fish Sandwiches and Jerk Chicken Sandwiches. These start out with either fried fish or jerk chicken, along with lettuce, tomato, tartar sauce, another slightly sweet special sauce, and then some hot sauce, on a wonderful, mildly sweet and soft Coco Bread. Sybil's makes these sandwiches here, non-stop all day long, and there's a deliciously good reason why! BUT SYBIL'S IS A BAKERY ALSO! A trip to Sybil's for most people usually entails purchasing food, and then also Guyanese style baked goods. Some items of note, are the fresh Tennis Rolls, a dense, slightly sweet roll famous for being eaten with a nice slab of cheese in between, creating the best cheese sandwich ever. And if you enjoy cheese, the Cheese Roll pastry, the Cheese Pie tart and the Cheese Scone are also wonderful. And some examples of the sweeter style baked goods here, are the famous Guyana Pineapple Tarts and Guava Tarts which are a must try. Along with the Carrot Cake, Cassava Cake, Cherry buns, Coconut Drops, Chinese Cakes, Currant Rolls, and Solara, just to name a few. I LOVE THIS PLACE All in all, Sybil's is not a perfect restaurant. There are no tables to eat-in, it's usually crowded, and the ordering process can feel a bit rushed and intimidating your first time here. Moreover, if your looking for the best Trinidad style Doubles and Roti, then - without a doubt - Trinciti, Trini Delight and Singh's Roti Shop are better destinations. (Look for my previous review of Singh's Roti Shop if you have a chance). But let me tell you, if I am anywhere near Little Guyana, and I'm hungry, It's a good chance that I'm stopping at Sybil's for some of my favorite food and some magical baked items to take home. Because I really love this place, and if you get to know this unique restaurant like I do, I bet you may fall in love also.
