Great experience! They have a HUGE selection of beautiful fish, fresh water and salt water. When I first got there it was a little busy so I took my time looking around at what fish I wanted to get. They have a great system where you grab a ticket at the register and they call your number when they have someone free to assist you. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, the younger guy who helped me was able to answer all my questions and even told me about salt water tank systems after I mentioned I want to have a salt water tank in the future. I found this store on Yelp, and I'm glad I did. I was looking for help with buying a large aquarium, stand, and equipment, and I received assistance from the owner, Lewis. He offered lots of ideas and suggestions as to what I needed, and I was happy with the package I purchased. He also put me in touch with an experienced aquarium maintenance company that can pick up, deliver, and set up my aquarium at my home for a reasonable price. Trop Aquarium is my go-to fish store. I have 5 aquariums and go here often for supplies and fish. All their fish are healthy and beautiful, they have half a dozen staff working hard at all times. I've never had to wait for someone to help me. Every tank is clean and if there is an occasional floater (happens to the best) they take care of it right away. Their plants are in good shape and they have quite the variety of plants and fish and hardscape. Salt and freshwater! The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and their prices seem to be fair. Disappointing experience and zero accountability. We've visited numerous times purchasing four fish tanks, dozens of fish, supplies; all trying to support a local business. When one of the tanks turned out to be cracked, we went back expecting at least some help or accountability. Instead, we were told it was a "structural problem" and they couldn't do anything for us. Even after showing that our setup was perfectly level and our other tanks are thriving, we were told it was our fault. To make matters worse, multiple tanks in their own store looked like they were crashing the day we were there -- not exactly reassuring. The frustration wasn't new, though. On a previous visit, one of the employees told us, "If it doesn't make us money, I don't really care." That pretty much says it all. After the amount of time and money we've spent here, you'd think they'd care enough to stand by their products or at least try to make things right. Sadly, that's not the case. We won't be returning -- and we'll be filling our 1,000-gallon pond with fish from somewhere that actually values its customers and stands behind what they sell. read more

They are experts and willing to go the extra mile to ensure you enjoy the hobby and don't get in over your head. Ok I'll try to write a fair review about this place: 1. The prices and diversity of the livestocks are good. 2. Employees are OK. They're patient/nice or impatient depending on different circumstances. Sometimes this store is waaay crowded for a fish store! 3. Their fish death rate is about 50% in one week based on the past few times I've purchased. But the employees stick with the store policy (if there's a clear one) strictly even your water test is 0.2 off. They don't exchange for you, give you any break or even some store credit for future purchases. Seems very inhumane to do business this way. BTW they have one dead fish in almost every tank but I never judged. This supposed to be a relaxing and forgiving hobby built with a nice community, but they don't seem to care or too busy to care. 4. The older gentleman security guard needs a little bit sunshine:) I think I've got everything covered. read more

I went in with my two daughters. We were carrying a plastic, clear see through food carryout bag. My daughter also had her water flask. Upon entering the store, we were not greeted. It felt more like an ambush. We were asked to place our clear bag and water flask up front, while the posted door sign only stated "No backpacks". We wouldn't have minded placing our items up front; however, it was the manner in which we were being spoken to and treated that rubbed us the wrong way. I was asking about inventory, while my question seemed to be met with zero consideration, or helpfulness. I know this store isn't in the best of locations, and perhaps they've experienced issues with others in the past. Even so, this is no way to treat potential customers who were genuinely in to shop. The hours are terrible. They open 10am-5pm while being closed on Sundays. As someone with a job its near impossible to visit since they close to early and open so late. I really dont understand why their hours are so wonky. Their fish are generally unhealthy. I've purchased a few nano fish from them, 2 have made it, a white cloud and a rummy nose tetra. All the others died, they did all their fancy water tests and said my water was fine. Multiple times I've entered the store to see fish (freshwater and saltwater) dying, dead, getting attacked, etc. One of the fish I've seen literally had his spine poking out. I've seen a panther group get picked on constantly to the point he flipped upside down, I told an employee about it and they said he was fine. The bettas are in terrible condition, and are poorly kept. The only good this store has is the prices on feeders, Unfortunately I'll continue to come back for the feeders. read more

Lewis helped us get our betta fish and the necessary supplies for him. He showed me which plants wouldn't need as much care and gave lots of good advice. He has a great sense of humor and we throughly enjoyed our shopping experience at this shop. However, he did sell us two things we did not need: 1) weights for the plants (they were fine with the marbles we bought) 2) water conditioner (the aquarium tank kit we purchased came with conditioner) Even though we wound up buying more than we needed to, Lewis was kind and funny enough that it was overall a positive experience. Someone needs to tell the security guard at the front that he's not guarding Fort Knox. His attitude is so terrible every single time I've ever been in there. Their feeders always get my tank sick, their prices are absolutely gouging, and the blonde lady who works there has an awful attitude. I wanted to give them my 15+ cichlids for store credit. Blonde lady goes "the most i can do for all of them is $30. I have so many of them and they might never sell". I go in there the next week and what do ya know, the fish they took from me for free was listed as $30!!! For one fish!!! When i gave them 15+!!!! I understand you have to make money, but this is just absolute robbery!!!! You guys suck in every way possible!!!!! I really enjoyed our visit here. The staff is amazingly knowledgeable about freshwater fish. The store has a ton of everything fish related - aquariums, stands, tank equipment, cleaning accessories, decor, frozen food, flakes and, of course, fresh and saltwater fish. All of the tanks are meticulously cared for and all of the fish look happy and healthy. I don't have a saltwater aquarium but the corals did look beautiful to my untrained eyes. My favorite fish tank was the one with all the fiddler crabs. They always look like they're dancing to me. We picked up some really healthy corkscrew vals (a very pretty freshwater plant). read more

Went in looking/pricing Angel fish for a tank build. Not from the immediate area but I don't know if I'll visit this place again when I come back. They have a really good selection and they look healthy but they have a 'guard' at the door who was an absolute dick. I walked in with a drink in my hand (granted, I noticed after it said no food or drink on the door) he told me I couldn't be in the store with it but the tone and gestures he used made me not even want to go back after I put it in my car. Upon leaving, I said "Thank you, have a good day" not only did he not say anything, he glanced up and gave me a nasty glare. I've worked in food service, retail, and sales so I know how to treat workers and be kind on a bad day, but this dude was just an ass hole for no reason. Especially since he's the first person you meet going in the store. Everyone else I encountered in the store though were nice. Asked me if I needed help with a smile. Just sucks that the second I walked in my experience was shattered before it began. Felt like that dude was going to kick me out any second for just breathing. I'll see how this last purchase goes... but odds are, it's my last. They get in a lot of fish, variety is good but because of the turn over you must, must must must, hospital tank or quarantine your new fish for 2 weeks in a separate tank. read more

I knew it. I knew if I got a test kit I would obsess over the numbers. So I set up my first "big" tank like MD & FSMatt (from You Tube University) instruct. I added plants, snails & magic API starter juice, waited. I upgraded my 3yr old Beta from their 5 gallon, waited, added a dozen Green Neons & a few shrimp, held my breath and waited - no one died!! They all look great! So why? Why on week 6 did I get a test kit? Of course all the numbers didn't exactly match the suggested parameters. Of course I was worried. That's when I called the OG of Vegas fish shops, Trop-Aquarium (I believe they have been there since I moved to the valley in '89?!) Many thanks to the good humored, knowledgeable, kind Dude who took my call and explained desert tap water is 2 minerals away from becoming sand and cichlid's don't mind. Not only did he calm my worry about the numbers he also pointed out it's not cool to add a couple of Apistos with my elderly Beta already in there even though she only takes 2 laps around the top and doesn't use the rest of the tank. He also cautioned me against my plan B. It seems elderly Beta's don't do well stepping back down to their 5 gal condo after living with room to roam. I get it, fly first class once and coach is ruined forever. Again, many thanks to Trop - Aquarium not only for coaching me today but giving me a cool shop to check out for the last 35 years or so. Bought a few fish - carefully introduced a Roseline Shark into my tank and it died within 20 minutes. PH is set perfectly and the water temp is 78 degrees. Other fish doing fine. Nothing more frustrating than spending $40 on a fish that dies in minutes when you do everything right. I'll find another fresh water fish store. read more

Do not get the feeder fish - it will destroy your entire aquarium; it gave all our fresh water fish ick. Unfortunately, none of our fish survived that we have had for several years.
