Macari first worked for toy manufacturer Hasbro before launching a custom cabinetry business with another former Hasbro colleague. Today he is involved in multiple businesses. For a new venture, Macari decided to open his own brewery with Neveu, another former Hasbro employee. The partners acquired and completely renovated the circa 1872 Berkeley Mill boiler room building to house the brewery. They named it "Phantom Farms" after the Macari family's local apple orchard and bakery just down the road. Oscar Garrido and Andrea Riera, a husband-and-wife team from Chile, were hired as the head brewers. Since opening, Phantom Farms has become known for its farm-to-pint operation, its close connection to its namesake orchard, a historic taproom, and award-winning lagers. I recently visited Phantom Farms Brewing while I was in town for the day. I was scheduled to meet up with some other beer bloggers. The first thing I noticed was how beautiful the restored historic building was. There was plenty of space upstairs and downstairs, indoors and outdoors, and the brewery is also family-friendly. After exploring all of the various rooms, I looked over the draught menu. There was an eclectic mix of beer styles as well as hard cider crafted with apples from the Phantom Farms Orchard. Between mingling with the other bloggers and playing some games of Biñho, I enjoyed pours of "Half Dark" (Czech Amber Lager), "Elegant Viking" (New England IPA), "Alternate Continuum" (Barrel-Aged Saison), and "Hypernova" (Barleywine). I was very impressed with everything that I tried, especially the last two. Between an excellent roster of beers, a beautiful historic space, and some excellent company, I had a really enjoyable experience at Phantom Farms and I highly recommend them to any craft beer aficionados who are visiting the area!

That didn't stop us from devouring the whole thing though, it definitely was not bad. Ambience is chill with music playing at a lower volume. Mostly couples and small, chill groups in the spot. There was one small group with a baby but the baby was not overly loud or disruptive. Outdoor seating is available but we opted to be inside with the AC. Bartender seemed to be the only employee working both the tables and the bar and a little overwhelmed, so service was a bit slow. The record reflects that this brewery has been open for only 3 weeks. We didn't have high expectations because new breweries pop up everywhere, but let the verdict show I rated 3 of 4 beers I sampled a 4+ on UnTapped. The two head brewers were working hard. They were friendly and eager to engage with the courtroom patrons. The Worcester Mayor was even spotted on site!l (busted!) We approached the bench (bar) and ordered a flight to sample their 4 beers. There are currently 3 IPAs and a red ale. I don't typically enjoy red ales, but "Strict Scrutiny" was actually the favorite! I don't have any objection at this time. The atmosphere is the opposite of the cold scary courtroom, no judge is demanding silence. Acoustics are a little echoey, but it's packed so that is a good thing. Please remain standing, I am still under oath. The courthouse theme is reflected on the wall "you've been served" as well as on the beer tanks which are named after female Supreme Court justices! Poll the jury, and don't let the free pretzels sway your decision. We will definitely be back if I make bail. I have no further questions. I rest my case.

Apple turnover had potential but we couldn't find any apple in them. Too much butter so the center was a soggy mess but the edges were crisp. Add in some apples, reduce the butter and you'd have a hit. Or experiment with your beers like a pumpkin swirl cheese cake or tart, apple cider donut/cinnamon bun or such. I will return here for their great beer selection. This is the first beer flight I've had where I really liked them all equally.

It didn't have very much in it as far as clams and potatoes but it was delicious. Not your typical NE chowder but good all the same. The little crackers they serve with it are good too. The quahogs although tasty were tiny. Clam size. I'm not sure if it's because it's off season or what but I've never had one so small and at $6 per you'd think you'd get a little more. The fries came to the table and we asked if they were always so dark...they were burnt and hard and the waitress said "sometimes they are darker sometimes lighter" well friend these are charcoal. She got us a new order which came out quickly and they were cooked correctly. They had Parmesan and garlic and still felt like they lacked flavor. We added salt it helped a bit but the shining star was the homemade ketchup. It was delicious. We finished our meal with the carrot cake. The photos do it no justice. It is huge and so amazing. Best we've ever had. I was told it's made in house I'm not sure if that's true or not. Overall a big disappointment. I don't think the best thing you've eaten at a place should be dessert or condiment but that's the case. I would say go for the cake and cocktails.
