Winchester is full of gems, and this so happens to be one of them. I found it on Facebook and Mom and I headed over on a Saturday morning. I wish I hadn't went grocery shopping the night before because a lot of the items that I bought at the grocery were available here too. I guess that's the bad thing about coming to a Farmers Market on a spur of the moment. Note to self, make sure that I don't go grocery shopping before coming here. Items like cucumbers, green peppers, tomatoes, etc were all items that I spotted and would've snagged. Instead, I walked away with a few tomato plants. Yes, I know you're surprised... I'm growing tomatoes. The locals were socializing and I could totally sense that a lot people come here as a social thing in addition to scoring local homegrown goods.

I've been buying flowers from them for about a month now. (The secret to keep your flowers alive longer is to add a cup full of vodka to cold water and an ice cube). I change my water on a daily basis using this method and my flowers last a full 7 days). We also stopped at Nate's to get coffee. I got a cold brew with foam and a shot of toasted marshmallow. My friend got a drip coffee and a bagel with spinach artichoke spread. She said it was really good but on the messy side to eat. I also picked up a jar of carrot cake jam from salad days. There were jewelry booths, that included homemade soap, vegetables fruits, baked goods , fresh pasta, different condiments and spices, rubs, beer, cheese, and assortment of beef, chicken,pork, farm fresh eggs and so on. It was busier than normal today but I think that had a lot to do with people graduating and the fact that the previous weekend was derby so people were out of town. The people selling fresh flowers were extra busy because tomorrow is mother's day. We saw a variety of dogs too which is normal. I like that the main area of the market is sheltered so you have protection from the weather elements and shade for when it gets hot in the summer.

The market was small during our visit (compared to the Louisville markets I'm used to), but the booths that were set up could cover all of your Saturday morning farmer's market needs. There were flowers, fruits, vegetables, breads, jams, herbs & spices, and more. Plus, my sister-in-law said she's visited before, and it's usually larger, so I'm sure during the summer months you could visit this market and pick up anything you may need. And all of the vendors were extremely friendly! If you're in the Georgetown area and have a chance to stop at this market I definitely recommend it!

Not only did they rob me of my neck and giblets and cut out a chunk of the turkey, most real farms include herbs from their garden for brining. This heritage turkey had absolutely no flavor of game to convince me it was raised wild. I have prepared and roasted goose, duck, and wild turkey for over 20 years for my family, and this farm is not authentic. We use a local USDA butcher to process all of our meats, and he packages the giblets and neck from each turkey and then adds them back into the cavity. The package can be difficult to reach and you may have to try from both ends of the turkey. You will also need to wait until the turkey is completely thawed to reach the pack as it will be frozen and stuck inside. We have never encountered a situation where the neck and giblets are missing, but it is not impossible, as each turkey is handled by a person, not machines. I bought three dozen eggs, two bunches of spring onions, and a cookie and cupcake for my daughter and paid over $30! The sellers really overcharge their customers and cash in on the "organic" "Kentucky grown" concepts. Everything looks great, smells great, and tastes great, but you'll easily pay double to triple what you'd pay at your local grocery stores. The meat is especially outrageously priced (think $15 for just one average sized steak). Vegetables may be organic and locally grown etc. but again, you're paying double to triple what you'd pay in the grocery store. With daily rising costs in gas, food, etc. who has the money to throw away on ridiculously overpriced farmers markets? The original point of a farmers market was to acquire quality locally grown foods at a better rate than the grocery and you're also supporting local business. Greed has really overtaken that and everyone at this market are just making $$$ off the "organic" labels. Definitely not worth going unless you like throwing your money away. I gave it a 2 because the eggs were good quality. However, there was literally zero difference in taste between the farm non-graded eggs and the graded eggs from the local big chain grocery store. We drove to Happy Jack's farm near Frankfort Kentucky. We absolutely loved this farm and pumpkin…read more patch. First there is no fees to do the activities but they had less activities because it is a true growing farm. Many animals walking around and you could purchase feed to feed the goats for a small fee. We enjoyed seeing the longhorn cattle on our way there and all the chickens walking around. We rode out to the pumpkin patch on a wagon pulled by a tractor. The pumpkin patch is really large and the ride was quite nice. We bought a small pumpkin that was reasonably priced at $4.00.
