Jeff Richmer Home Improvements - Before and after!

    Jeff Richmer Home Improvements

As a new homeowner, I have learned how difficult it can be to find reliable help for projects of…read moreall sizes. After recently replacing my windows, I needed someone to help me put up siding and insulation/drywall where I had converted an old door to a window. My first few attempts at finding someone struck out completely -- either my project was too small for the companies that I contacted, or the contractors that I spoke with were unreliable and seemed disinterested. Enter Jeff Richmer. I got his info from a friend who had used him for work around his place and had been very happy. I contacted Jeff and he promptly got back to me with a time to meet and see my place and give me an estimate. On the appointed day and hour, he showed up on time, handed me a business card, asked thoughtful questions about what I wanted, and took measurements and pictures. I was already impressed, but just a few days later when he sent me an emailed invoice that was detailed of what he wanted to do and very reasonably priced, I knew he was the guy for the job. He communicated the timeline well as the project date approached, and when the time came, he was done on schedule. I couldn't be happier with the finished result. My new window area looks amazing -- you'd never know that a door was there unless I told you because the trim work, siding, and paint are all so seamless. Jeff is truly a gem among home improvement professionals, and I can't wait to find my next project for him to do!

Jeff was recommended to me by two different friends. I hired Jeff to paint all my trim and doors in…read moremy home white. They were stained wood. His contract said he needed $400 deposit which I paid. The contract stated that he would sand and prep all areas. Apply 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of white paint. I advised him a few weeks later that I decided to get new windows so he would not have to paint around the windows. I also advise him that we had painted the entire home and I was getting the hardwood flooring finished. He said that he would protect my floors and walls. After he worked at my home for a week. He left me with a huge mess. Paint on my new floors, paint on walls. When I emailed him about the issues he said well this changed and then that changed. The only things that changed was I got new windows and he didn't have to paint them. I had also asked him if he included painting the shelves in the closets and he said he didn't but he could do them and it probably wouldn't add that much more in cost. I told him that would be fine. He ended up telling me that the $400 covered his expenses and we would just call it even. When he came to look at the job he said he would probably take the doors to his home and paint them. He did except for the exterior doors. All of my exterior doors now stick because he didn't let them dry and paint is all over the weather stripping. The paint is coming off my doors. He didn't even paint the top of any of the door frames. There is several light and dark areas in the paint. Some areas look like primer and no paint. It is going to cost me more money to fix what this guy messed up. I think he should have returned the $400 and some extra for new weather stripping, doors, and clean up. Beware!! Jeff doesn't do what the contract states. See pictures below you can tell he didn't sand anything and left white paint on my floors and newly painted walls.

    1. Papa's said they would put up plastic & tape off areas needed to avoid stain getting on doors,…read morewindows, siding, gutter, & concrete patio. This was a huge issue with me & I questioned it several times but was promised this wouldn't happen. This did not happen. We have stain on concrete patio, gutter, siding under deck, & sliding door bottom upper level. Papa's cleaned off what they could but missed gutter & concrete patio. 2. Papa's said deck floor would be sprayed in order to get in between boards that a brush couldn't get to. This did not happen. There are visibly exposed wood or bare spots across top of deck floor in between boards. I brought this to the attention of the main guy doing the work but deck was wet & he said he would come back to do it right. Never did. 3. Stain was blotchy where they stopped & started again. I pointed this out to to one of the workers who said "everything has 2 coats of stain on them". One worker came back that evening & corrected issue. 4. Pointed out 2 areas under railing spindles next to house where there was no stain. When I questioned this I was told he didn't want to get stain on siding. This goes back to point 1 above. Papa's did not take the necessary precautions to avoid getting stain on house & consequently missed several spots. They came back the same evening to correct issue. 5. When I complained to the owner about the quality of work he said my first mistake was talking to his guys. Yet he previously asked if I had inspected the final product with his guys & pointed out issues. He said I should have called him because he is the owner. I should never be talking to his guys. Other than coming out to give me an estimate & sell me on his company he never set foot on the property again to inspect work or ask how I liked it. I elected to go with a semi-transparent stain. In our last conversation he said I should have used a sold stain because using a semi-transparent was part of the problem. He also promised to come back out & spray the deck to get in between the floor boards saying he is a "Man of his word". This never happened. In fact, I gave him a couple of dates that would work for my family & he responded by saying these dates might not work. So I asked what dates would? Never heard back from him. I really had high hopes when I talked to the owner that the job would be professionally done especially when he said "we warrant our work". As I told the owner overall they did a good job but I had to ride heard over everything. If only they had taken the necessary precautions to prevent issues & did what the owner said they would do they would have received a better review.
