I really liked this restaurant. We came here for lunch and were seated right away. Their menu features barbecue items. They have all of your favorites like brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and burnt ends. They also have breakfast items, desserts, ice cream, burgers, pizza, pastries, a cereal bar, and salads. There is a private parking lot for you to park. They have a huge dining area with private rooms for large parties and special events. The staff there was very friendly. This restaurant is special because it is a place where individuals with special needs learn real-world job skills. I saw them training while I was there and it was awesome. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the 2-meat platter with pork belly burnt ends, pork belly bacon, potato salad, and baked beans. Be sure to check out their daily specials. They also host brunch. My food was ready in about 5 minutes, and it was fresh and hot. It tasted really good. The burnt ends were my favorite, but it all tasted good, though. Triple B's opened at a former Jethro's location in Johnston right along 86th St. Their open house was in November of 2025, but I think they may have opened in limited capacity before that. Last week we had a chance to stop in. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the empowerment through employment concept here! Triple B's partners with a few of the different school districts as well as Goodwill and Best Buddies to employ around 30 people with special needs. It not only gives teens and young adults with special needs a chance to enter into, and participate, in it's workforce... The restaurant caters to families with special needs children as a safe space where they aren't looked at differently. It's their world...we're just sharing their table for a few minutes. Parking is plentiful and we had no issues. We were greeted shortly after we walked in and seated towards the East end of the restaurant. Denny was up front along with Brenden. Seating is a mix of high top and low top tables and chairs along with a few bench, table, and chair combos along the walls. The daily hours vary some so check out their online presence's posted hours to make sure they are open when planning your visit. The menu is extensive! Offering everything from breakfast and BBQ, to sandwiches, pizzas and baked goods, and even ice cream deserts. There is a large menu board above the front counter. For dine-in ordering and payment is done via standard table service with your server. They also offer take-out ordering online through their site via skytab. Pay attention to their weekly/daily specials! We ordered the following: 2x Fountain drinks (Pepsi products) 1x 1/4 lb of beef burnt ends 1x 2 meat platter with pork ribs, pork burnt ends, cucumbers and onions, and mac n cheese. This was served with a small slice of cornbread 1x complimentary cinnamon roll Be aware the yellow and red squeeze bottles on the table are not ketchup and mustard. They're their two house BBQ sauces. One traditional (yellow) and one a little more spicy (red). I really liked both my sides! They were fantastic. The mac and cheese was hot and gooey. The cucumbers and onions were crisp and fresh. The meats all had good flavor. But maybe they were having a little bit of an off day...? The burnt ends dry were a drier than I prefer. The same with the cornbread and cinnamon roll. The ribs were better but still a little dry. Don't get me wrong... I cleaned my plate! I just used a little more BBQ sauce than I normally do. It's a personal preference and it really just might have been the day... That happens with BBQ. I would strongly encourage you to try it for yourself, but I want to be transparent in my experience. Our service was wonderful. The woman who seated and served us did a stellar job (Brenden's mom I think). One of the gentlemen working tables stopped by our table for a visit. Great kid with an even greater smile! Even with a bump or two. I'm already planning my next trip back to Triple B's to try their breakfast and their brisket cheesesteak... The cheesesteak is advertised as coming on a Amorosa roll. While smoked brisket is a spin to the classic... We went shortly after the lunch rush on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, so they were out of a few things. Each of us got our second choice, and both were wonderful. My wife had the pork burnt end sandwich. The meat is incredibly tender, and the seasoning is superb. It has this bit of sweetness to it, we later found out they use monk fruit rather than sugar, and it was amazingly rich and a complete surprise. For a side she had the jalapeno corn. The heat is subtle, which is a theme for the meal. I took a taste and my first thought was "yep, that's Iowa corn". If this is a sign of what the rest of their BBQ is like, it's going to be great. I had the grinder. This is not your typical central Iowa grinder. It's creamier, the heat sneaks up on you, lures you into a feeling of safety, then it makes your forehead sweat. All without burning your mouth. There is a richness to this that is delightful. For my side I had the cheesy hash browns. Nothing exceptional here, just tasty old fashioned comfort food. They use Rotella's bread, the best local choice for food like this. And their pickles are marvelous. There have been complaints in other reviews about food taking a lot of time. Yeah, this is not a place you go to if you want food fast. This is a place to go when you want to spend time with friends, relax and enjoy the meal and the company. They also have a mission. They have special needs kids training at various jobs at the restaurant to help them get a good job and get ahead in the world. So few places would take the time for this. I do want to go back again and try some other things. I especially want to try their breakfast. Talking to the owner, this may be a place that does biscuits right. Also, as much as possible, they source everything as locally as they can, at least Midwest. They have good food, and they are doing good things. We attended a party there recently and really liked the atmosphere. So we returned for the brunch on Sunday. Very good. Our glasses were always full and the food was hot. The smoked, candied bacon is my favorite. The sweet cream pancakes are delicious. Everything on the buffet was very good. My girlfriend ordered the margarita pizza, and it came out raw in the middle. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, and it wasn't much better. The bacon was rubbery, and the burger was nothing special. To top it off, they don't even serve fries, which is surprising for a place serving burgers. We were the only customers in the restaurant, yet our waitress only checked on us twice the entire meal. Had the weekend brunch buffet. Smelled the BBQ smoke as we pulled up. The staff were so nice! They had the cutest cow cake in the pastry display. The buffet had plenty of options. The ribs were meaty and tender. Two kinds of cole slaw and darn they were both so good. I went for seconds of the oil and vinegar one. Corn bread was so good. I'll be back to try the amazing looking shakes and malts but I was just way too full this trip. We were told Mondays they have BINGO. I'm excited for the return trip. read more

Slow service, and a 55 minute wait for the food at a time when the restaurant is barely 30% occupied. Sunday at noon! I won't be back. We watched as 2 other tables of guests got up and walked out. I wish we had but we stuck it out. And it made us late for an event that afternoon. read more

we visited on Fathers Day, 6 people. we waited 1 1/2 hours for a table. all good. but our service was awful. she was not pleasant. I okay they where busy but... we had to ask 3 people to order a second drink. the third mush have been a shift lead or a manager becaue once we talked to her our server appeared and was nice. we were told she was in the other section on the other end of the building. However I don't thank that's something the customer should care about. then maybe transfer us to a new server. it was a very frustrating experience. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

Wife and I decided to try this place. Walk in and our first sight is a young boy sprawled out on the waiting bench, shoveling mac-n-cheese into his face, it's all over the bench. He's barefoot and his feet are literally black from dirt. We read a sign that he is the namesake of the restaurant but the owner thinks that's acceptable for customers to see first thing. So no hostess station, no signs. Two or three employees walking around. We're not greeted by anyone. I excuse myself to go use the restroom. I come 5min later to find my wife still standing there! Finally the bar tender comes around, takes us to our table and gives us 1 menu for two people. We ask to start with water. She brings us 2 glasses and she's holding the glasses by the rim. I dont want to drink from her fingers. So we wait and wait and wait for our waitress. Meanwhile the person I perceive is the manager or owner is at the bar talking to another waitress. So one young lady is trying to wait the entire place by herself. After 10min we walk out. The concept of this place is a great idea unfortunately they have no clue how to run a restaurant. the smoked chicken was the best chicken I've had in Iowa. even the pickles and sides were excellent. they will be starting aa bingo night and a trivia night next week. go for the food, stay for the games. also worth noting is their policy of inclusion. some of their staff are cognitively challenged. they were not working too hard, but the place was not very busy at the time. if you support inclusion, by all means it is worth the trip. read more
