Professor Dalua and the other instructors at NBTC really know how to teach, and they are more than willing to answer questions. They have created a really great environment at NBTC where everyone from the newest student to the seasoned competitor can enjoy classes. NBTC offers classes for kids as young as four, as well as a women's only class, in addition to the regular evening and day classes. I recently brought my 3-year-old son to try this karate class. He absolutely loved it, and as a…read moreparent, I was excited for him to learn structure, discipline, and focus -- which is exactly what martial arts is supposed to teach young kids. Unfortunately, after the class, the instructor told us that because it was hard for him to focus and he accidentally hit another child, we should 'bring him back in a few months.' While I understand every class has different teaching styles, it was discouraging to hear that instead of working with him where he's at, they suggested he come back when he's already more disciplined -- which, ironically, is what we hoped the class would help him with. I want other parents to know that if your child is energetic, hyperactive, or still learning self-control (as most toddlers are!), this may not be the right fit. I hope in the future the program will feel more welcoming to all kids, including those who could benefit most from what martial arts teaches.
