St. Teresa came up when I reviewed another church . . …read more A hard / mixed review for me. I grew up Catholic and made (almost - not Baptism) all of my Sacraments here. I was married here in the Fall of 1999. After Confirmation in 6th grade, my mom left it up to my sister and I if we wanted to attend on Sunday's anymore . . . heck NO ;) I did on most holidays and at random mornings after that, actually. The services are LONG, and I found the parish too uptight, and a bit cold in feel, overall! Parishioners overdressed and hoity-toity (hypocrites?). (ST did not allow us to have pumpkins on the alter when I got married). The church is very pretty with ornate stained glass (I LOVE stained glass) and beautiful crucifixes, etc. I liked MOST of the priests. I did NOT like the Catholic guilt that I acquired . . . still is with me, unfortunately. Over the years and after I moved out of the area, we returned in 2004, shortly after my daughter was born :) A priest turned me off so badly in Confession (I loathe the idea of it and have for a long time now - so unnecessary when God knows all and these mere mortal men don't need to know my business . . . I digress . . . ) that I was NOT going to have my daughter baptized there. In fact, I "jumped ship" and have been Episcopalian since 2004, as are my two children. Our (new) religion is similar to the Catholic one (no Confession - you silently confess during a portion of the Mass and are forgiven of your "sins") - boo ya! - and I don't think believe in Saints, which I still do anyway). Many moons ago on Tuesday evenings, I had CCD at their small school next door. I recall good lessons, laughter amongst peers, and making cute crafts; however, I was SCARED of the Nuns (many teachers were not). "Back then," they wore the full garb. I still recall how good the wood smelled as I climbed the steep stairs. It was a sweet and innocent time for sure. My one friend's father is a Deacon at the church now, so maybe it's gotten better, but the whole Catholic debacle (I know not applicable to all) was what did me in for good. I ONLY come here for weddings and funerals. #PTSD!
