Who would have thought there is a cathedral right between sky scrappers. This cathedral is situated downtown right between sky scrappers - so it takes on an even more dramatic look. I could also not help noticing the copper piping! On October 10, 1980, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Trinity Cathedral is the oldest church in the original city limits of Miami, having been organized by the Rt. Rev. William Crane Gray on June 12, 1896, more than a month before the city was incorporated. In 1904, the Trinity Mission became self-supporting and thus achieved parish status. The wooden church building was replaced in 1912 by an imposing, two-story stone church, similar in design to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Key West. In 1923, as the great Miami and Florida real estate boom of the roaring twenties neared its peak, the congregation bought land at the corner of NE Bayshore Drive and 15th Street for the site of a church large enough to seat eleven hundred worshipers. Miami architect Harold Hastings Mundy designed the new church, whose construction was finished in July, 1925. The proportions of the building and its general idea were inspired by the Roman Catholic Church of St. Giles, near Nîmes in southern France. Muncy combined Romanesque, Byzantine, and Italianate elements of architecture to give the building a distinctive Mediterranean appearance. When the boom collapsed in 1927, Trinity Church was saddled with a large mortgage debt, which was not paid until 1946, after almost twenty years of sacrifice and struggle.

Just before the Venetian Bridge is an welcoming Episcopal community church with beautiful architecture and religious art, statues and other sculptures. A mixed congregation with a strong West Indian and Latin worship base. Weekly Sunday and daily mass with communion open to non-members services. Candle lighting available.

The back wall of the pews.

I finally got the opportunity to see Trinity Cathedral's interior, and it sure is beautiful! On certain Fridays of the month, they hold music concerts inside the church. These concerts are sponsored by MiamiMade and will include such genres as jazz, rock, and believe it or not, even electronica. I still cannot fathom electronic music playing in a church, but, I guess they want to make sure to cover every musical genre, and attract people of all ages. The classical music served perfectly with this Italianate Mediterranean Cathedral as its backdrop, though, so it seemed to be a great pairing. The acoustics in the church are great, and I got to experience that on Friday when I attended MiamiMade's classical music concert, featuring an opera singer and a musical ensemble playing chamber music. It ain't over till the fat lady sings, they say, but as Laura Martinez Leon, the Cuban soprano singing that night, proved to us, the "fat" part is not true. She not only had an amazing vocal range, but also an amazing physique. She coquettishly performed each song with a smile, swaying of the hips and waist, and did a fantastic job keeping the audience entranced. She wasn't using a microphone, but her voice sounded throughout the church. After her lovely performance, as well as Maria Paulina Garcia's, the pianist, came the Euclid Quartet. These young people were very professional, talented, and played a great selection of songs. Again, no microphone was necessary. They played tango crossover and some challenging, yet beautiful classical pieces. Their last piece was a Handel song, which they performed flawlessly. If you like classical music or chamber music, check out the Euclid Quartet. They are local, and very talented. Of course, I suggest checking out Laura and her vocal acrobatics as well! PS: I did not take any pictures of the performers, as I did not want to distract them or affect their performance and concentration.

Beautiful building. I like the service too.

Love this church. I recently relocated to Miami and lucked up to have this gem of a church in walking distance from my place. :) I am Episcopal so to me it's perfect! Beautiful building, simple service and very welcoming congregation. I def recommend.

If you're short on time, I recommend the Omni parking garage right near the church, it's a short walk and gets you there since the church parking itself fills up fast.

There was no entrance fee for the festival, but on Saturday night, they had a band performing and there was a $10 cover per person to go in the seated area. We didn't know this until the end of the food line after we paid - we went to go in the ballroom but were told we needed a ticket by someone outside the room. It wasn't really clear that there was any seating available other than in the room with the band, so we did pay the cover since we got so much food and needed to sit, not sure exactly what the entertainment was. The band was fantastic and lively, so we didn't necessarily regret it, just still a bit of a steeper price than entrance for any other cultural festival that also comes with live entertainment and just wasn't made clear from the beginning how it worked until we already had our food. Very cool to see the community go up and dance with the band. I love that in Brickell we have such a culturally rich and diverse institution open to the community.

My family and I all feel incredibly fortunate to have found a church that preaches the Gospel using biblical principles and adheres to scripture. It's beautifully diverse! Intently generous to the Miami community as well as worldwide ministries. Pastor Kevin is genuine, humble, and truly full of compassion, integrity, and always willing to be used by the Holy Spirit to encourage others and rebuke when needed. The kids and youth ministry is absolutely amazing. The worship is real and inspiring. No big egos! There are plenty of ways to get involved and serve across multiple ministries. I came to Miami Vineyard for the first time in June, to attend Growth Track. I now serve for both the Connect Team and Guest Experience and I love it. I love welcoming all with a big smile. No matter what you're going through, good or bad, I believe you too will find a home with the Miami Vineyard family. I am also lucky to be a part of a small group for bible study on Wednesday nights. I look forward to attending each week. We're planning an outreach in January to help others in need. All in all, it's a great group! There's always something going on and so much to do. Here is some information regarding this place. Prior to the First Presbyterian Church, the lot at 609 Brickell Avenue was the location of the home for Edna Rickmers. First Presbyterian purchased the lot at 609 Brickell Avenue in 1948. The church was built and opened in 1949. Andre and Edna Rickmers bought the lot at 609 Brickell Avenue from Mary Brickell shortly after arriving in Miami. The couple arrived to Miami in 1905, a year after they got married in Pittsburgh. Edna was from Pittsburgh and her husband was a ship builder from Germany. He was listed as retired in the 1908 Miami City Directory. The couple was listed at 1805 Brickell (later changed to 609 Brickell), as early as 1908. It is likely they built the home in the cover photograph between 1905 and 1907. Andre and Edna were very active in real estate in the growing Miami area. The couple owned a fair amount of property in today's Omni neighborhood. They also owned the land where the Olympia Theater resides. It was actually Edna Rickmers that gave the building the name "Olympia Theater and Office Building" in 1926. However, Andre was not alive to see the building of the Olympia. It isn't clear the year he died, but Edna Rickmers was listed as a widow by the 1918 Miami City Directory. The home at 609 Brickell Avenue was set toward the back of part of the lot. It was very common for homes on the east side of Brickell Avenue to be located closer to the bay and a distance from Brickell Avenue. The home was razed in 1948 to make room for the church. Following the sale of the property to the church, Edna Rickmers moved a few blocks south to a mansion located at 1927 Brickell Avenue. She lived in this mansion until her death in February of 1956
