I visited a few days ago and noticed a student protest outside of the Book of Kells. It seems pretty clear that the university is giving higher priority to the tourists than to their students. I'd feel guilty supporting an institution like that. There are a few nice buildings on campus (though they're largely inaccessible), but most look like they belong in the 60s. A wonderful sight to see especially the long hallway of the library. The library is so stunning and its something to remember. Something you see out of those movie from the harry potter library almost similar. It was unexpected and it made it all worth it. Trinity College was founded on March 13th, 1592. Set right in the middle of Dublin this is a great, old, historic university. I t has many classic buildings and monuments and is certainly worth a tour, especially if you are going to see the Book of Kells. We toured it using information from a tour book, but you can get a guided tour through the university. The Buttery, a cafe on campus, is a good place to have coffee/ tea or lunch. A beautiful place to take a stroll and view wonderful examples of architecture throughout the ages. There are also some interesting sculptures throughout the grounds. Make sure to visit the Book of Kells. It's just fantastic, the Books are so well preserved and really is a step back in time....well worth the entrance fee. The Book of Kells is really a special artifact of a different world. You have to look closely to see the detail of the illustrations, especially with the low light. There is a detailed display about the materials and methods used to make the book before you get to it. The Long Room is just a very impressive sight - No one builds libraries like this anymore. read more

Took a tour, but as with most of them... what I actually take and regurgitate is limited. I remember the guide being nice to look at and listen to (drool). It has a lot of history and is a really beautiful campus. Although it doesn't reval my favorite part of Dublin: Kilimanjaro Jail and the pubs! read more

If you like history you will enjoy walking around the grounds. Its a free thing to do that isnt very far at all from the Temple bar area, so you could walk around here and then go to Temple bar and hit a pub. read more

The Book of Kells tour was good and they really gave alot of information regarding their famous book. We even got to see a real replica of the book. We also checked out their old library which is really really old. You can smell how old the books were but they really kept it nice and neat. They have headstones of famous people and writers. They even have details of how things were back in then esp of how they kill and torture people... quite interesting and grateful that I'm in this century. read more

It's an old book. Equally underwhelming as it is amazing to view so go visit. The campus is also very pretty and a nice walk. I recommend getting advanced tickets. The line was quite long but if you purchased tickets ahead of time, you can skip the queue! read more

Being born and raised a catholic and also being a celibate bachelor my entire life, and having gone through many a personal cultural revival on my holidays, I decided to partake in the Book of Kells while visiting Dublin on my most recent visit to Ireland. I was no more prepared for the Long Room as one would be prepared to see the face of God. The beauty of the craftsmanship was indescribable. It was a cultural feast for my soul. I left the experience being filled with the most remarkable sense of wonder and trepidation for my life (I understand this makes little sense to anyone but myself, but that is okay). A wonderful spot for a stroll while you're touristing around town. I really wish I had gone into the library, but the line - oh that line. We decided thanks but no thanks, but I'm kicking myself now. We thought campus life and caffeine went hand in hand, but sadly everything closes at 3 and we wandered from outpost to outpost searching for coffee to no avail, so we didn't stick around very long. A quick stop into the gift shop for some postcards and the cold shoulder from the unfriendly shop girls, and we were back on our way. read more

By far one of the most beautiful and historic university campuses I have ever seen. It's like Princeton on steroids. I took the walking tour which ended at the Book of Kells (see my review...eh). Such nice architecture and history behind it. I highly recommend this as the walking tour takes less than an hour. The young gentlemen who was our tour guide was very nice, knowledgeable and humorous. A must see. read more

Trinity college, a university established by Queen Elizabeth I in the 16th century has beautifully maintained grounds right in the heart of Dublin city center. There are entrances on Nassau street across from Dawson street and the main archway gate at College green. Many tourists will come to see the book of kells and the long room and once inside the grounds will be amazed by the well maintained grounds and Victorian architecture. This is definitely a good place to take pictures, particularly in the morning before it gets too crowded. read more

I enjoy escaping to the Trinity grounds to soak up a bit of the serenity when the madness of Grafton St has me riled up and ready for the punch. The thing I can't understand about Trinity is the 'no sitting on the grass' rule. When I was at university in my hometown of Brisbane, Australia, sitting on the grass in the Great Court for hours on end was essential to the conferral of your Bachelor's. In fact, I'm sure I spent more time on the grass in said court or on the 'Grassy Knoll' than I did in the lecture theatre (but what are lectures for anyway??) It was an integral part of my university experience, and I pity the poor Trinity goers who are not able to have such a complete on-campus experience. Sitting on the grass chatting with friends and strangers while the huge pile of textbooks at your feet goes unnoticed is a rite of passage of any university course, and I for one am grateful not to have been deprived of this pleasure. Granted, the weather in Australia is better than in Ireland and more conducive to grass-dwelling, and granted also, the grass in the Great Court did not look anywhere near as healthy as that of Trinity's hand-manicured blades, but let's not forget here that my home state was in the grip of the worst drought of the century at the time, so grass anywhere was really a bit of a novelty. So what I'm trying to say here is Trinity - break open the glass menagerie and share your grass with us. Your students, the general public, the world will be a better place if you do. read more

The campus hosts the Book of Kells, which is a draw in and of itself. However, the university is really interesting as well. I came here for a study abroad program, and the campus and facilities are more than adequate. The location is central, and the buildings are beautiful. The only problem is the cobble stones, especially when you're wearing heels. :) read more

This place feels massive. Like a glorious fortress. Yet it feels smart but not pretentious. Huge yet cozy. It's definitely worth visiting in and of itself. Above that the Book of Kells is housed here!!! BTW, you can stay in the dorms during the summer. read more

I've never been one to get excited about anything biblical, and unfortunately, the Book of Kells at Trinity College was no exception. At a cost of €10 per person, I found that the Book of Kells exhibit was a bit overpriced. Yes, they did a great job explaining the symbolism of the drawings, and showing how these ancient illustrated books were put together, but I had a really difficult time getting excited about it. For me, the best part was stepping into the Long Room of the library. It was breathtaking, and a bit unfortunate that pictures were not allowed. The exhibits in the Long Room did quite a good job of explaining how books like the Book of Kells paved the way for illustrated books in general, and when put into that context, I was able to connect a bit better and get a better appreciation of the Book of Kells' significance. If you're in Dublin and looking for an activity, I'd say it's probably still worth checking out Trinity College and walking around the campus, and the Book of Kells tour is somewhat worth the €10 to see the very impressive Long Room of the library alone. read more

Why have I never considered cutting through here and taking advantage of all the amazing green space in here. Obviously home to a lot of history on Ireland and famous with tourists for the Book of Kells but tonight, for the first time I took the time to wander through the open spaces and with the sun shining, it was just perfect. I power walk through the city every evening on my way home but no more, I say. I'm going to definitely take this route more often and just 1 minute away from the chaotic streets of Dublin is the beautiful gardens of Trinity. The perfect place to grab a book, take up a bench or sit in the grass... Read the book or ponder life either which way, take note and people enjoy this shared space we have :-) read more

Oh, college... Being a student at the right age is non replaceable experience. I would have loved to be a student here. Fancy shmansy looking place. Haven't seen any of the inside, except for the sports building, therefor my short review is about the yard and more tourist focused. If you are visiting Dublin and are in city centre, drop by and spend half an hour walking around the college grounds. I'm pretty sure there should be some great stories to be told, but I know none of them. You might want to check on that before coming. Must to mention one thing - the globe. Original globe is placed in Vatican's museum. Been there, seen it and it's big and revolving. Here, in this college, is a smaller replica of it. There're only a couple of them (replicas) around the world and one of them is right here in Dublin. Isn't that appealing? :) Second part is about sports building. It has a name, but I can't remember right now. I've been playing basketball there and can say that the floor is good or we could say great in Irish standards. Two courts at the time. Handy. Showers are ok, changing rooms are fine as well. Nothing bad to say about it. Be prepared to climb few steps here as lift is quite small and moves slow. What a heck, this is sports grounds, why there's a lift anyway? :) read more

You don't need to view the Book of Kells to appreciate the architecture, the grounds, the greens, the trees, the history, the positive intellectual karma of this institute of higher learning in the heart of Dublin. I got to tour the grounds of Trinity College in May of 2017 with my class while we were studying over there! There is so much room there! We didnt get to see the classrooms but we got to see the different buildings and I love how there is a giant courtyard in the middle! This was such a beautiful place! Absolutely gorgeous! I first visited Trinity College when I was on a university sponsored trip. We stayed in their accommodation options for five days. The accommodation was a dorm styled apartment, but was much nicer than most dorms in the United States. Had breakfast at the Buttery which offered continental breakfast. On campus at Trinity College is the Book of Kells. The campus is open to the public to explore. You can walk all the way out to the athletic fields. Been back twice since I stayed in 2010, and love to just wander around. read more

This was a lovely walk on our way to other adventures. You can do a tour for 12 euro, but I was content just walking around on my own and enjoying the architecture and landscaping. I'm pretty sure the greenest grass in the world and the happiest trees are in Ireland, and Trinity College's campus is a testament to that. If you have the time and are in the area, I highly recommend just walking through-you can get through it all in 15-30 mins depending on your pace and how many photos you take. read more

Lovely place to visit - would definitely inspire some learning in such a historical place. It's a very vibrant place and it's good to see the development from the oldest sections to the newer buildings, like the library. It's free to wonder round and really easy to get to from the centre of town. Some great photo opportunities and a well stocked gift shop. The queue for the book of Kells was massive so we didn't see that, so get there early if you want to see it. Would highly recommend! read more

Wow, what a campus. Reason I visited here was giving a personal tour of Dublin to some American friends of mine and came here to show them the Book of Kells. The exhibition was really well laid out and displayed. Amazing and very insightful. A must for any visit to Dublin. Also has a look around the great library. Again amazing. Nice tourist shop too. Blurb from the website "The Book of Kells is the centrepiece of an exhibition which attracts over 500,000 visitors to Trinity College Dublin each year. Written around the year 800 AD, the Book of Kells contains a richly decorated copy of the four gospels in a latin text based on the Vulgate edition (completed by St Jerome in 384 AD). The gospels are preceded by prefaces, summaries of the gospel narratives and concordances of gospel passages compiled in the fourth century by Eusebius of Caesarea. In all, there are 340 folios (680 pages). The script is embellished by the elaboration of key words and phrases and by an endlessly inventive range of decorated initials and interlinear drawings. This is nice college in the middle of Dublin. I mainly came to see the Book of Kells at their library. The whole story behind the book was interesting but the actual book itself is small after seeing the it I was amazed. The library was beautiful along with the other buildings on campus. The grounds were very well kept. It was a nice visit. read more

It was probably a four star experience, but it's a rip off. The book of kells is pretty interesting, but I'm not sure it really requires four rooms of explanation. I get that they want to provide context, but really they were just making the experience longer so they can charge more. The room where the book resides is crowded with people and you can only really look at it for 30 seconds before getting bumped out of the way. And really, it'd be a lot cooler if you could see more than one page at a time. Redeeming was the incredible long hall with thousands and thousands of books. It's a magnificent room, I wish I could've taken a picture to show my friends. I'm not sure I can advocate skipping Trinity College for a first time visitor to Dublin, just know that it's not much of an experience for 9 euros. read more

After a fun and informative tour, we were able to view the Book of Kells which is a must see. It's incredible to view the illustrations that are so incredibly vibrant and beautiful after thousands of years. After, make sure to check out the library. It is a stunning room. I wasn't that impressed by the college. Besides the library with the Book of Kells, it didn't offer much in the way of views for a non-college student. It doesn't have many exits and entrances which can make getting in and out difficult. It seems very enclosed and gloomy in the rain and fog. There are some beautiful designs along the buildings, but not enough to shine against a brooding sky. I guess I have a preference for college campuses that offer space and beauty outside decorated stone edifices and random art pieces. Give me a beach school in California any day. read more

Buy yourself a sandwich and a drink at any nearby sandwich shop and plonk yourself down on the grass just before 1p.m. on a sunny summer day and watch the nearby office workers flock in to work on their summer tans. Thats entertainment all on its own. read more
