This review is for black people considering working at Luther Jackson or black parents considering…read moreLJ as a positive learning environment for their students. This story is about a black substitute teacher. It was 1:00 PM. That was the time just written in the logout book. The substitute teacher then gave his ID badge to a short elderly white woman admin. He left the office and proceeded to the front waiting area. While in the area, he noticed that the gym students were doing some type of test so they were not in their normal PE clothes. The teacher never spoke to nor interacted with anyone during this time. It had been about 5 minutes since the teacher had left the office. The same woman he had given his ID badge to cam up to him and said that he had to sit down by the front door or wait outside. He told her that he would do no such thing and that he worked for FCPS Fairfax County Public Schools and he knew that was not a requirement of its employees. He then said that the woman was racially harassing him and that he recognized her behaviour as such. The "lady" leaves and no more than 5 minutes later police officer comes over to the teacher and asks him to leave or wait outside. He can tell that the officer is only doing what was requested of him. The teacher again refuses to leave. No more than 5 minutes go by and again 2 assistant principals arrive to continue the harassment of the teacher. They tell him he is creating a disturbance. He disagrees. In the middle of their arguing the teachers ride called and he leaves mid-argument. He had a teacher request him for the next day. The students, "Respect and like you." was her rationale for asking him to sub her science class. But he knew that the racist white admins at Luther Jackson would, and did, prevent him from ever subbing at his alma matter again. Luther Jackson is a less than ideal environment for black children. They have no support from the culturally incompetent and racist white people that make the decisions there.

The people were cheerful despite the look of the weather. Everyone that took part in the kids race looked happy and excited. Although I did not take part in the race this time, I am thinking about going it next year. The overall feeling of doing something heathly and fun, are two things not to ignore.

And with the emergence of the Mosaic district close-by, Falls Church high school is poised for an even greater future.

I understand you are busy, and might be understaffed ( which is surprising for private school) but it's just simply rude to ignore parents like that.

There are the usual pizzas, hot dogs, and hot chocolate as typical of high school concession stands, but what caught my eye was "homemade ice cream." At a high school concession stand??? Turns out, it is from Lazy Mike's Deli from across the street. Still, this is different than the usual concession stand. The mango sorbet was hard as a rock, but after softening it a bit in my hands in the warm weather, it was perfect for a warm spring baseball night. Rarely do high school concession stands bring pleasant surprises. This was a nice treat!

I have two children attending, one in preschool and the other has been there a few years and started in Kindergarten (no preschool when we started). The school has been changing, for example, the addition of the preschool program and a new principal after the other one left to get married. The current principal seems alright and is older, so more likely to stay. She is also better at communication than the old principal. I like that the school has more diversity that St. James, which also seems to be more conservative in its parent population. Tuition is reasonable, with discounts for multiple children and aftercare. The teachers love the students and there are some really involved parents that make the school year fun for the kids. It's like a family. I also like that the classes tend to be small (15-20 kids on avg). They have Spanish, art, music, and music classes as specials. CYO sports, band/orchestra, choir, are some after school activities to name a few. I don't like vendor run lunch program that costs more than I spend on lunch, so we mostly pack lunch. It would be nice to have two classes per grade, so there were more kids. I would also love if they switched over to a Spanish-immersion program for the diocese. Several of the teachers are bilingual along with the students. Some may have heard rumors about the proximity to Bailey's Crossroads. To date we have had no issues and the school has modern security, like controlled access to the school (i.e., badge or buzz in).

Each student receives plenty of attention, and teachers have a good understanding of students' personalities and needs in this small-classroom setting. Our kids think the world of their teachers, and the learning and advancement continues to exceed our expectations. I was particularly impressed with how the administration handled the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and 2021. In-person classes were in session throughout the entire school year with the option for virtual learning. Measures were taken to ensure students stayed healthy and in-person learning persisted. Any reported cases were quickly addressed with proper quarantine and sanitation protocols. I had full confidence my child would be safe when dropping her off at school each day. This was a stark contrast to the local public schools whose doors remained closed during this school year. If you are looking for a small, nurturing, tight-knit community for your child's education, I highly recommend making a visit to St. Anthony.

The guys are the most annoying people I've ever encountered. Half the teachers don't even teach. They will take away the only thing you like about the school and try to cover it up by letting you wear white shoes. None of the bathroom doors lock. If you are an introvert you're out of luck. The people your mother asked if they enjoyed their experience either lied or went to a different Bishop O'Connell high school. The school is not as good as it seems.
