The mango sorbet was hard as a rock, but after softening it a bit in my hands in the warm weather, it was perfect for a warm spring baseball night. One of the only enjoyable parts of this trip was the wounded warrior project and the ability to get access to U.S government buildings, but in my option was not worth the hefty price tag of $3k. The staff was very rude and disrespectful rewords me. When asked simple questions of how to get somewhere, or what the schedule is they would give you dirty looks or make it seem as if you were hassling them. I had two situations that required me to talk to the office and both time I went they cut me off when talking or told me to figure it out on my own. However I must give credit to my group leader as she was amazing, kind and helpful towards all of the students. The NSAM meeting I found useless as we did basic middle school history work. The other "learning" events were alright but again I didn't learn much from this experience. We had meals at the university of Maryland's dining hall. While eating one of my group members found fingernails in their pie, which the university claims were onions, it's safe to say I stayed away from the pie after that. It gets worse though. While on a trip into DC I witnessed a an older staff member around 60/70 I'd say, buy a box of Trojan condoms, triple bag them at self checkout than put them in his jacket after paying. Later that night I was walking in the hall to return to my room as I saw this man slap a younger ( approx. 25 ) female staff member on her bottom. Through the week they continued to display PDA's. And on the last day we witnessed them purchase condoms again on the last day. Never the less I wasn't expecting to see this on my "once in a lifetime experience." Overall this was an odd week and and make me wonder why I came here in the first place.

My child's classmate reported a peer being punched in the face and the teachers doing nothing about it. The curriculum is very rigorous, which is great, however, 1 unit in almost every class usually lasts around 3-4 days: they cover too much in such a short period of time to try to cram everything in, and make the students learn the material through constant assessments. This is fine as they get a wide berth of knowledge, but don't learn the "in-depth" material and reasons behind the concepts unless they stay for another few years (this is because of their "spiraling" curriculum where they revisit concepts to add more depth). Every week, they have at least 1 quiz/test, (because of their math studies), but most weeks, it's 2 or 3. In addition to this, if your child stops for 30 seconds to tie their shoe 2 minutes after dismissal times due to a bathroom stop, they will immediately be asked to attend "Late Bird" for ~$45 because they are "delaying". There is no PE for middle/high school unless you take it as an elective. Lastly, the culture there is very toxic. There is hardly any sense of community as everyone is competing with each other and children often learn, from their peers, to believe that receiving a 99% on their test is "poor performance". The teachers do little to combat this, and this is the same attitude they have towards kids calling out derogatory comments in the midst of lessons.
