After many years of hard work and having experienced many trials and tribulations, I was finally able to purchase my own home. The only catch is that I needed to take on a major renovation project that was bank financed. At the tune of approximately $90,000, I took on the renovation challenge. Their work may LOOK good, but the question to ask yourself is whether the work really IS good? Make sure that you put all of your expectations to paper by way of a contract, but beware because they may not follow it! You need to watch them like a hawk to make sure that they are not skimping on anything. I suggest regularly being on site while they are working on the project, even if it means taking extended time off work. If you're a woman, I suggest having a knowledgeable man regularly around too. It will be worth it. It wasn't until I actually occupied the home that a multitude of shoddy work presented itself. We agreed on insulation throughout, but they skipped that in various sections which resulted in drafts and a serious lack of natural soundproofing that comes with any basic insulation. My energy costs are far more than the norm as a result. We agreed on wired smoke alarms. I realized that is not what I had when they took their turns chirping away which was their way of asking for new batteries. We agreed on structural reconciliation but what I got were ceilings, floors and walls that became uneven. I don't even want to talk about the flood that was caused by their bad plumber and resulted in damage to my new home. We DID NOT agree on removal of the second bathroom, but with the complete renovation, I ended up with just one bathroom, when I started with 1 1/2. There are other issues, but at the end of it all, their work was not good value. If you watch these renovation shows on TV, it won't take long for you to realize that you didn't get what you paid for, or in my case am paying for a 30 year term. Most of their work will not last that long. I actually am having to pay twice as a lot of their work will need to be corrected. The property brothers get better results on more square footage with 40,000 than these guys did on my little house with 90,000. It took these guys over 3 months to do what others would have done in less than 2. To add insult to injury, not only do they lie, cheat and steal, they argue incessantly and will inappropriately try to use your family or anyone else against you when they know they are wrong and doing things that are not in accordance with your contract. They will also try to convince you that they have done you favors. I was not the first person they did some of these things too and probably won't be the last. I believe that they are some of the most insensitive and disingenuous modern day crooks in the city. I suffered tremendously when all I expected was a good honest job. They also become defensive when you call them on their faults. This is not how you do business DAF and please don't send me anymore Christmas Cards.

But the job they did deserves recognition. Among the many people worth a shout-out: designer Chaya Uzan whose enthusiasm and ideas gave us a sense that our project was quite special; and Robbie Goldberg, our day-to-day contact and project manager, who brought a craftsman's eye to all aspects of the job. When problems were encountered, problems were fixed. An example: once we installed a new oven in the kitchen we realized that we would have to do without a favorite built-in spice cabinet. Robbie came up with ingenious fix requiring some custom carpentry so that the spice rack did not disappear but became an integral of the whole. Anthony, our renovation expert, was our first contact with A to Z. He encouraged us not to give up on what we wanted the project to look like even though other renovators had told us it was impossible to do. He also offered to answer any questions we might have along the way. Then there's Shevy, the permit and insurance coordinator. She dealt with the necessary paperwork and kept the inspectors at bay so we did not have to deal with those headaches. And last but not least, Mario, the site manager, who was there every day, hands-on, always professional and pleasant. On that note, the entire team seemed to like one another and treated us and each other with a refreshing degree of decency and consideration. To summarize: The team at ATOZ was thoroughly professional and kept us informed with clear, consistent communication every step of the way. Importantly, the team worked efficiently to stay on schedule and were fair when an unexpected issues arose, providing clear solutions. The final result is exceptional, and the quality of work exceeded our expectations. We would not hesitate to recommend ATOZ to anyone.

When we removed the paper the day before our move-in date, I noticed a strange spot on the front edge. Upon closer inspection, it became clear that it was a large chip in the granite edge that had been poorly repaired. Considering the tile work has already been completed, I am now exploring legal options to hold Unity Tiles accountable for selling and installing a damaged -- and then patched -- granite countertop. Five stars is not enough for the work Procraft Design and Construction did on our home. I cannot…read moresing enough praises for the overall experience I had with Glen and his crew. We hired them to open up the first floor of our Cape Cod, and they completely helped me re-imagine the space taking down several walls to create a true open-concept layout. Along the way they installed new hardwood floors across the entire first floor, redid our shower, replaced both toilets, moved our washer and dryer, and prepped all the groundwork for our kitchen renovation. The craftsmanship throughout was outstanding. The part that really earned our trust is they delivered on what they promised AND THEN SOME! They finished within the estimate they quoted, and they were remarkably fast and efficient without ever cutting corners. Glen and his crew went above and beyond at every turn. His entire team was helpful, friendly, and easy to work with from the first day to the last. They put down new floors and molding, removed floor to ceiling mirrors, painted, put in new closet doors and shelving, as well as performed ALOT of touch ups and clean up items on the apartment. His quote was among the most reasonable that came in and when there were extra charges, he explained why this was the case and he also gave us options to opt out of them. His crew was also great and he seemed to keep close tabs on them, coming to the work site daily. He was also super accessible-- via phone, text, and email-- and he ALWAYS called back. The work he did-- a complete renovation of our three bedroom apartment-- was great. And he came by a few weeks after we moved in to make sure we did not have any issues or concerns.
