I arrived at the office a bit cranky because the drive took forever. No matter what I tried, I was hitting traffic. Granted, I think Carmaggedon Part 2 was gearing up. Anyway, the people at Trident Dentistry won me over. I walked into their office thinking I would honor this appointment, but find someplace closer to me, but by the time I left, I knew I would make this my regular spot (until or unless they do something nutty).
- They did NOT try to upsell me. My teeth aren't news anchor perfect, so they asked if I've considered braces, but I said "I'm too old for that" and that was the last I heard any cosmetic procedures mentioned.
edit: They did recently try to sell me on Invisalign, saying it wasn't just cosmetic, that my teeth were cramped and I needed them to avoid problems in the future. First time I've ever heard this from any dentist, including Trident who never seemed to feel this way before. My insurance doesn't feel this way either, they said my insurance, through the Motion Pictures Editors Guild, a good plan, wouldn't pay a cent for it. It would be over 5000 out of pocket.
edit: Also, recently, I went in with a problem, and the dentist basically dismissed what I was saying and suggested the teeth I said hurt in fact didn't hurt, it was other teeth that hurt. The reason why was because the teeth that hurt was the one I had recently got new fillings in, put in by the dentist who didn't believe what I was telling her. It wasn't the most pleasant experience but they took another crack at the fillings for free which was nice although I probably would never go back if they had charged me twice because the fillings were causing quite a bit of pain.
- The doctor sat down and explained the x rays to me. It was very informative. She answered my questions. She made all sorts of suggestions.
- I went in for a cleaning and they did an incredibly thorough job. I went to a dentist in Larchmont where the dentist herself did the cleaning, while in full make up and with jewelry on, and did it within a blazing fast 10 or 15 minutes. My sister, a hygienist told me never to go back there. This place was thorough. In fact, they broke the cleaning up into two days. All the while, the girl cleaning my teeth lectured me on how to improve my teeth's upkeep. She told me to stop using the floss I was using... suggested a new type of toothpaste... demonstrated how to use my Soniccare more effectively. I felt like I was being lectured to and I absolutely loved that.
edit: I am going to keep going here. If anybody from the dentistry is reading this, I'm sorry, but I feel like Yelp is only useful if people give their honest accounts. I resisted editing my post fearing a backlash since I don't plan on finding a new place, but it felt weird to be afraid of my dentist. read more
