Triad River Tours - Gearing up for the adventure! - Rafting/Kayaking Near Me - Bellingham, Washington

I came here for white water rafting for the first time which was so much fun! We did the Skykomish River which is a level 4 river. That means that it's a more challenging river but it doesn't mean that the entire river is challenging. It just means that the most difficult portion of it is a class level 4. There were actually many portions of it which were completely chill and some that were only slightly intensive. We could even jump in the water and relax. The most challenging portion was the Boulder Drop which has a lot of rocks and is narrow. We met at the Big Eddy Park which has ample parking. You want to get there a decent amount of time earlier than your scheduled rafting time because you want to give yourself time to change and settle in. You will have to pay $10 for day parking unless you have the Discover Pass. We took a 10 minute bus ride to the river and then they spent 20 minutes teaching us the safety tips and what to do in certain situations. They were very thorough and explained everything very well. They explained what to do in situations like if you fall in and how to get back to the raft. You definitely want to wear clothes that you don't mind getting wet and wear shoes that won't fall off easily. After that we split into smaller groups and started! Our guide Curtis was amazing! He was telling us all his crazy rafting stories and kept the ride entertaining the entire time. He was cracking jokes with all of us and we were definitely having a good time in the raft and he was saying that he was having a good time too because we all had a great sense of humor and were chill. Now let me tell you about our raft's heroic effort. There was another party of two that was in their own raft. One of the women actually fell off the raft right before the Boulder Drop and our raft was right behind theirs. Curtis got in a serious mode/tone and even said, "Oh s**t that's not good" which showed just how serious the situation was. At that point we went all out to save her. Curtis yelled the instructions on what to do and we had to navigate through the Boulder Drop while also putting ourselves in a position to save her. At one point we tried yelling to her to swim to our raft but all she could say was, "Help, help". She then held onto a rock until we could get to her. It was pretty serious and BALLSY (inside joke Curtis I hope you read this) but eventually we pulled her out. We navigated through the Drop as well as we could've and no one fell off either. It was intense and super fun, sadly at her expense but it was an awesome moment of adrenaline! You never hope to be in those types of situations but if you do, you want to be in a raft with a guide who knows what they're doing so they can successfully navigate the rocky (pun intended) situations and get out of them and get everyone to safety. Curtis did exactly that! Overall it took about 2.5 hours to get through the river and get back to the parking lot. The great thing is that they had a photographer taking pictures of all the rafts going through the river, especially during the Boulder Drop. She took some great pictures of us saving the woman (proof that I'm not making it up!). You can purchase the pictures at the end of the raft trip if you want to keep those memories. I had such a great time and I definitely want to go back. Hopefully there will be the same amount of action! read more

My husband got me this experience as a belated birthday gift and I had a blast! I always value experiences with my husband and this absolutely delivered! Everything was smooth sailing. The guides were experienced and funny. They all work as a team, from the bus driver, to the guides and the photographer to capture the moments. I love cruising down the river with the beautiful scenery of PNW mountains, the clouds, fallen trees, seeing bag worms infesting the evergreen trees (nature can be brutal), falls. I left my cellphone and unplugged for the day to refresh my mind and soul. This was my perfect Sunday as my hubby and I started our day with worshipping in church for Sunday mass at 7am and head out to experience water-rafting. I slept like a log last night for 8 hours straight! Being out in nature is indeed therapeutic and the best to do it is to go for a whitewater rafting! We booked a river trip on the Skagit River on 8/19/2023 and it was a wonderful experience. I had some uneasiness and mentioned this to Luke. He listened and made sure I was comfortable. Fantastic rafting on the Skykomish My son and I went rafting yesterday, and you couldn't ask for a more wonderful way to spend a summer afternoon. This operation is great. They pic you up, transport you upriver, then start the 2 hours down an incredibly beautiful river, surrounded by mountains and woods. The rapids are so much fun. We had 3 rafts and a kayaker for safety. The guides know what they're doing and we had a wonderful time. I highly endorse them! And, it's so close that it's an easy day trip from Seattle. read more

Tour guides are great, owner is very nice and everyone definitely made sure we were safe. Our tour guide was Aleksey and he's very knowledgeable. My kids love that he did a lot of the rowing so they were not sore the next day. I wish the wetsuits were long sleeves to keep us warm. So if you do go, bring your own long sleeve jacket and a pair of shoes to change. We were very cold . The river is beautiful, however not so much rapids for the class 2-3 tour, one group didn't even get wet. My kid was able to sit at the nose riding down the rapids as it was pretty mild and safe. read more

It was clear from the beginning that the company wanted each of its customers to have a good time, and to feel safe in doing so. The intensity level was appropriately described on the website. I did the Sauk river tour on a rainy day on a Saturday. My group of 6 went with one other 6 person group, we each had our own boats and guide. Before you arrive, they ask you to watch a youtube video that they made. The video is of fairly poor quality, but it gets the job done. After that, you are required to sign a waiver. This can all be done on your phone. I highly recommend you do this before you get on the road towards the river boat launch because there is zero cell reception out there. First, they provided us with farmer john wet suits (think overalls). I personally only wore my underwear and a rain jacket underneath it. They suggest not wearing any cotton and that's for the best as you definitely will get wet. I also took off my socks and wore my sneakers. They gave us a brief introductory safety lesson and answered any questions we had before going out on the water. We had a quick test of our skills in the water before going out to make sure we were synced and knew how to paddle correctly. After we were on the water, the guide was very friendly and fun. She told us what each drop was called as well as answered any questions we had about the area. It was about an hour and a half trip down the river and wasn't very difficult. One of our paddles was lost but we ended up recovering it. No one fell out of the boat and when I inquired, only one person out of 6 boats had fallen out that day. Overall they were very friendly and professional and it was a fun experience that I would do again! read more

Booked 2 charter rafts/10 guests beginners level on the Skagit. First and foremost our guides, Georgie and Danica were absolutely incredible. They explained and demonstrated the raft's construction, safety points, proper ways to sit, anchor ourselves and paddle. The day was gorgeous. From the point we boarded the bus at the meeting point until we returned the fun and laughter never stopped. The river journey was incredibly beautiful and we even had an Osprey mascot leading us the entire journey. (Unintentional by Triad, but it was Cool to see it at every turn) Our guides were engaging, informative and personable encouraging us to have splash wars, overtake each other's rafts and proved very confident and experienced guides. My family has run the Sauk River twice now and both times we have had an amazing time. The guides are knowledgeable and always fun! I love the jokes and playfulness they bring to the trip down the river. Our guide this time was Kenny and he had a great eye for the local wildlife and had great stories to tell. Ask about the Eagle and the raven it was a funny story but seeing the two together was even better. The river has a lot to offer with great scenery too. I don't know how my experience was vastly different from the other 17 reviews on here. Perhaps Luke was having a bad day, but that shouldn't impact how he speaks to his customers. To be honest, he was a condescending jerk and I was shocked when I found out that he's the owner. We had someone in our raft that dropped his paddle as he was pushing the raft into the water and trying to jump in. Luke had an extremely annoyed tone and yelled 'Oh dude! Come on, man! Dude.. grab the paddle!' People make mistakes. Sure, it was an inconvenience to paddle back to pick it up.. but it didn't pose a safety issue. Shouldn't you be more patient with your paying customers? I initially didn't want to get my feet wet when we were doing the rescue demonstration because I knew I would soon be freezing for 2 hours. He made a comment several times 'Oh.. she doesn't want to get her feet wet. If you guys don't want to get wet, you shouldn't be rafting'. Then he was implying that we were horrible paddlers by sarcastically saying 'Oh yeah. You guys are the best paddlers I've seen'. If we're not doing something correctly and for some people this is their first time.. then try to teach them how to correct what they're doing. There was another raft with a friendly guide and they were cheering and clapping their paddles together to simulate a high five. Our raft was tense.. no one was speaking. Most likely because Luke would fire off a condescending comment. Eventually, we all started talking amongst each other and I tried to ignore any comments he threw in. I understand that they have to instruct you on what to do.. but it felt more like Luke was a drill sergeant rather than having a good balance of providing direction and being personable with us. I had another friend that was supposed to come and she had called Triad to get more information. She mentioned that the guy was rude on the phone and she ended up not coming. I'll stick with the company that I went with last year where the guide was friendly and we all actually wanted to give him a tip for creating a fun experience for us. read more

As a first timer, I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous, but the staff all did a great job ensuring all instructions were clearly explained to the group. So much appreciation goes out to Hailey and her other two coworkers today (9/6/15) for being patient and waiting for our party of 6 as we were running behind schedule. We were really happy that Hailey was our guide. It was fun learning about the history of the Skagit River and wildlife around. Most of us were pretty wowed by how gorgeous and peaceful the setting was. Check out Triad River Tours if you're looking for a Class 2-3 or Class 3-4 whitewater adventure in the North Cascades. You won't be disappointed :) Tips: When making your reservations and you need a wet suit, be sure to tell them on the phone what your height and weight is so they can note it in your confirmation. We were told that a whole bunch of wet suits (of different sizes) would be brought down to the river so we didn't need to tell them our height and weight at the time of reservation. Unfortunately, on the day of, we did not receive our wet suit (I wouldn't dock off a star just because of that though). Additionally, there is no cellular service for any phone carriers except Verizon as you're heading to the Marblemount Boat Launch. Definitely be sure to print out your directions or travel with someone who has Verizon :) read more

My wife, a couple of friends, and I all had our first whitewater experience with Triad on the Skagit last weekend. Our guide was Luke, who I think is the owner, and he made our experience awesome. These guys are serious about safety AND making sure you have a good time. We all chatted and shared stories through the calm sections and Luke kept us working as a team when it was time to paddle. They make sure everyone knows what to do and provide you with nice clean gear. After our trip he also offered to cut us a deal on the more challenging Sauk trip and we WILL be back. So, I had my first white water rafting experience this weekend. And like most newbies I wasn't quite sure what to expect; I've only seen pictures. I can swim, but I hate being cold so my biggest fear was falling into the water. So upon arrival, our group met with Luke. Right from the get-go he made us feel very at ease, even those of us who had never done this sort of adventure before. We had a group of seven, and met in Darrington at the Sauk River. They provide wetsuits and helmets and "splash jackets" and instruction on exactly what to do. Luke went over everything with us, from how the river flows, what the dangers on the river are, and how to survive if you should happen to fall out. He let us ask any questions and made sure we were all comfortable and set. By the time we were geared up and getting in the river, any anxieties seemed to have faded away and you're just excited and ready to go, on the river's edge... and then all of a sudden you're off and paddling! Thanks to Luke's experience on the river and his precision with issuing paddle commands, our raft had no trouble staying afloat which meant I never had to go swimming! :) We went over some crazy rapids, but I never even once felt like I was going to fall off the raft. Having done this adventure, it feels awesome to say yep, I've been white water rafting and I can't wait to do it again! Tip: when you go for your adventure with Triad, if you don't like being cold, I reccomend you wear long pants and long sleeves, to wear under the wetsuit. I wore spandex/polyester blend breathable fitted workout clothes (they don't recommend wearing any cotton on the river.) My feet did get wet and cold, but it's part of the experience and totally worth it. Otherwise, aside from being hit with some waves in the rapids, I stayed relatively warm. (Our venture was in April and it was sunny and 60.) :) Whether you're an experienced rafter looking for your next fun outing, or whether something like this would be the last thing your friends would expect you to do, I cannot recommend Triad highly enough! read more

The Sauk run was a great way to start out some serious white water rafting for those not so expert in it. Listen to the guides, watch the safety videos. Our whole group had an excellent time. Going again, I'd probably wear fleece jacket (I just had a synthetic shirt) , as they seem to work well. The river was fast and exciting. It's a great team activity.
