My husband and I went there on a tour today to look into getting our son into a day care. Well we…read morehad a tour set up for the child time in colonie as well but they had emailed me and said they didn't have availability. So that being said, we go to the Delmar one and they tell me that they also don't have availability until the summer. Why did you not email me sooner to let me know so I could have canceled?! Immediately my husband and I were put off. So she takes us on the tour anyways and shows us the classroom he would potentially be in. It's like a 4x12 section of a room. There's 5 other children. It just looked like piglets in a pig pen. Didn't have much room to play and run. Just a section for them to hang out. Just was weird.

The program meets the minimum New York State requirements for childcare. The facility is not well…read moreequipped for a child care facility. There is not a gym or indoor play area for the kids to play. The kids do not go outside if there is dew on the playground equipment or rain or snow. There is space for the children to be outside to go on a walk but they do not go out. The facility does not have a kitchen or place for the kids to eat. They eat in their classrooms. The bathrooms are also in the classrooms. So if they don't go outside they will not leave their classroom for the whole day. The food is not fresh. It is from a box warmed up in back room. The food is finger food. The only food that was served that required utensils was cereal in the morning. Breakfast was not hot food including the waffles which were not served with syrup or utensils. The children were meant to pick it up and eat the waffles with their hands. Pizza was a regular affair. Either taco pizza or buffalo chicken pizza. I did not see cheese pizza on the menu in the months that we were there. At one point rice and mushroom gravy was served as the main meal. The staff was very pleasant. Most of the staff had only been there a year or two and they were in their early twenties fresh out of school. The pre- K teacher had 7 years experience at the facility. She was the only teacher with that kind of longevity and my child was afraid her. My child was not in her class.

Albany JCC - Outdoor pool

Mega points for being reasonably priced for a couple and having three pools: one indoor and two…read moreoutdoor (one of the outdoor pools is for the kiddos). The indoor pool is on the small side, but it's also (as far as I know) the only indoor pool that doesn't require an apartment lease or hotel room booking within the city of Albany, which makes it the biggest indoor pool in town. The gym facilities also look pretty extensive, but I haven't actually come for the gym yet -- I'm in it for the swimming. The staff I've interacted with have been universally nice and helpful. My biggest complaint would be that the indoor pool closes so early, I assume for staffing reasons. Also, keep in mind that they require you to reserve your lane ahead of time for the indoor pool. I like the policy, since it saves you from going to the gym, getting changed and showering only to realize that there are no free lanes, but if you like to be more spontaneous about your workouts the JCC pool might not be for you.

Hello Albany JCC, it's nice to meet you…read more My kid is taking swimming lessons at the pool here. What is nice is that they let you try this out for one session without becoming members. There are a heck of a lot of services and activities associated with the JCC. The largest would seem to be the nursery school, the gym and the pool. If you had a nursery school aged kid, and enjoyed to lift weights and swim for some good low impact cardio, you would probably never leave this place. But that's just not me.
